Biting Back – One Transit in the Life of Luis Suarez

Back in the days when there were only four TV channels most of us got our entertainment and education in equal measure by watching Eastenders. Up to 25 million at any one time were plugged into a thrice weekly tour around the moral questions of the day with seminars taking place the following morning at work to review the issues that arose. Now we have hundreds of channels and noone watches live TV anymore so the only time you’re likely to find Eastenders is by accident and even then there’s so many old characters coming back from the dead that you wonder if you’ve stumbled upon a Life on Mars style spoof.

Fortunately we have Luis Suarez to keep us both enthralled and entertained by his fantastic movement on the pitch but also to continue our education in life and social skills. It all began even before he arrived on these shores when the whole nation had to do a PHD style thesis on whether it’s acceptable to blatantly cheat and then be seen laughing about it afterwards if your own self interest and that of your country so obviously requires it when playing for Uruguay against Ghana in the 2010 World Cup. Since Suarez arrived we’ve had more essays to do on topics like what constitutes racist language in South American countries and is repeated diving and biting worse than deliberately setting out to break another player’s leg.

Billions of column inches have been filled on the subject, most of it based around the question of whether Suarez needs the help of a psychiatrist or a nutritionist.

But all of this outrage fails to recognise the vitally important wider role that Luis Suarez plays. We have to appreciate Suarez contribution to our moral education and when we look back on his career we will see that his chief role was to instruct us in the retrogradation cycles in planetary transits.

The planets of the solar system all orbit around the Sun in the same direction. Astrology is concerned with the relationship between planets as viewed from the Earth. As the Earth is also moving forward there are periods when the other planets can appear to be going backwards in terms of their position in the Zodiac relative to us. The result of this is that most planetary transits have 3 points of impact.

If you were born on Midsummer’s day, June 21, you would have the Sun at 0 degrees Cancer. At some point in your life a planet which was travelling through the previous sign Gemini  would arrive at your Sun’s birth position, this we call a conjunction by transit. It would then move on for a little while but some days, weeks or months later, depending on which planet it was, would turn backwards and move towards your Sun’s position again. This backwards motion is called retrogradation. The planet would reach the Sun for a second impact but then continue moving backwards into the previous sign. A little while later it would turn forwards again and make the third and final connection with the Sun’s position then finally continuing on its path through the sign Cancer.  The whole period from the first contact to the last would have an effect but those three particular points in the cycle would be the strongest.

Transits often have a pattern. The first time a planet contacts a birth point would be the most dramatic, not least because it’s unexpected and a new energy has come onto the scene. When the planet comes back to make a second contact there is a renewal of the energy but it may even be felt as if things are returning to the situation before the transit started as the planet moves back behind the birth point. The third and final contact would confirm the experience of the first two but it’s sometimes felt as being a milder experience not least because the person concerned has already had two hits from this planet and is beginning to get used to it. In many cases the person concerned has learnt the lessons of the transit by the time the final connection occurs so the impact is felt less strongly, but this has so obviously not happened in Suarez’s case as we will see later.

Luis Suarez has always been good copy, everyone agrees that he’s a brilliant striker but what baggage he brings with him.  Astrologically he has the clarity and vision of a Sun Aquarius together with the intensity and passion of a Moon Scorpio but he does seem to find trouble with remarkable regularity. He has admitted that he is generally a calm and quiet family man but when he gets on the pitch a switch is thrown and he becomes a completely different animal.  Some of this probably comes from the Scorpio Moon but how one is on the battlefield usually owes something to the sign position of Mars.  Suarez’ Mars is in Aries, the classic position of the fighter, giving him tremendous courage and assertiveness but also a tendency to act first and think about it later.  This is obviously quite useful for any sportsman but as anyone with Mars in Aries will know it can cause trouble.

The entire story occurs around transits to this ultra assertive, shoot now and ask questions later Mars in Aries.  This placing gives Suarez his incredible speed of thought and foot, his capacity for sudden and unpredictable change of direction and his great courage and single-mindedness, it can also get him into a lot of trouble even on a day when its not being transited.  Since the spring of 2013, Suarez has had Pluto, Uranus and Jupiter all aspecting his Mars often at the same time.

It’s only fair to point out that of all the possible transits that one can have, Pluto square Mars in Aries is the one that has teeth.

The way that Pluto works in transit is that pressures build for a number of years deep in a person’s subconscious but when Pluto makes the contact by transit, this always results in a sudden unpredictable outburst that appears as if it has come from nowhere. But if we look back we can clearly see the signs of the underground causes reaching boiling point.

By the tail end of last season, many people had expressed their anger at Suarez’s antics and most observers believed he was an accident waiting to happen. The deliberate handball incident against Ghana in 2010 and the ban that he received for racially abusing Patrice Evra in October 2011 were mere curtain raisers to the main act.

Suarez’s Mars is at 11 degrees 15 Aries. Pluto arrived at the same degree in Capricorn, in exact square to Suarez Mars in March 2013 and came to a full stop in this position during the third week in April.

On 21st April Suarez appeared to bite Chelsea’s Bransilav Ivanovic. He was charged with violent conduct by the FA and banned for 10 games.

Pluto then appeared to go backwards. Pluto’s retrograde motion covered the whole period of Suarez’ ban. The planet continued to back away from Suarez’ Sun until it stopped at 8 degrees 59 Capricorn and started to go forward again on September 22nd 2013.

Suarez’s first game after the ban was on 25th September against Man Utd, the first fixture after Pluto started going forward.

As if Pluto wasn’t enough to contend with, Uranus ( the other planet of sudden, unexpected change ) was also travelling through Aries and it arrived in conjunction with Suarez Mars on May 20th 2013. It was exactly conjunct his Sun when he said that he would be seeking to leave Liverpool giving English media intrusion into his life as the reason.

Inevitably such a statement would instantly be guaranteed to multiply the media focus so Suarez soon became the centre of all kinds of speculation. His hope for a bid from the likes of Real Madrid did not materialise but Arsenal soon declared an interest and Suarez, possibly not aware that Arsenal are also in England seemed happy to encourage their advances.

Liverpool’s owner laughed at Arsenal’s £ 40,001 bid, enquired as to what they were smoking at the Emirates and stated that Suarez would not be leaving.

A standoff continued between Liverpool and Suarez. Uranus’ transit went past Suarez’ Mars but then turned round towards the end of July, just at the point where Luis was starting to realise that he would not get his desired transfer.

On 14th August Suarez did his own turnaround stating that he would stay at Liverpool because of the tremendous support given him by the fans – that and the fact that the noble and expansive Jupiter had come into picture that week making an exact square to the same Mars. Jupiter was in the home loving sign of Cancer, so everyone came to their senses just in time for the new season.

Another interesting point about his ban ending was that not only did Pluto change direction that week in late September, but Uranus also came to exactly conjunct his Mars.

So just to recap, Pluto squaring Suarez Mars triggered the biting of Ivanovich, and its retrograde period the time of his ban. As soon as it went forward he was back playing again.

Uranus conjunct his Mars triggered the transfer request.

Jupiter square his Mars triggered the withdrawal of said request.

Uranus going exact to conjunct his Mars for the second time also coincided with the end of his ban.

All of these transits were spot on at the exact time of each development.

From late September onwards, Pluto was moving slowly forwards, Uranus backwards and Jupiter forwards so peace reigned once again.

Not only that, Suarez came back to Liverpool with such an explosion of goals and all round brilliance, that a team that had struggled and were widely predicted to miss out on the Champions League places once again, became genuine title contenders.

By the end of December, when Pluto reached Suarez Mars again and Uranus had started to go forward, his form had become unstoppable and everyone was going on about what a reformed character he was.

The Liverpool momentum built through March as both Uranus and Jupiter made exact aspects to Suarez Mars again but the title challenge came to a halt when Pluto stopped towards the end of April and started to go backwards again.

The head of steam that had been built up came a cropper as a result of the famous Grand Cross of the end of April 2014. Mars / Jupiter / Uranus and Pluto all came together as Steven Gerrard made that fatal slip against Chelsea and with it his only chance of a Premier League title disappeared.

As this whole configuration fell a mere spitting distance from Luis Suarez Mars he was awarded 2 footballer of the year awards. He also came within a topless Cristiano Ronaldo extra time penalty to being Europe’s top goalscorer.

And of course we all applauded the astonishing Plutonic transformation from cannibal to demigod and stopped worrying about what crazy things Luis Suarez would do and started hoping he would stay injured long enough to keep away from the Uruguay v England game in the World Cup.

We should have known better however, as Pluto had one more act to perform. The planet was now moving backwards again and by the time the two countries met up on June 19th it was at 11 degrees 56 Capricorn, well within reach of Suarez Mars. Suarez destroyed us with his two goals that night and sent England home with their tails between their legs.

But in true Pluto fashion, 5 days later Luis Suarez destroyed himself. His bite on Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini came as Mars and Uranus were in exact opposition to each other.

FIFA have subsequently banned him from all football for 4 months and nine international matches.

The global criticism aimed at Suarez because of these assaults on his Mars has been so loud that it could actually be heard on the planet itself.

Some people’s response has been such outrage that it makes one ask whether it’s Suarez that needs professional help or the millions ranting about his behaviour on talk show phone ins.

Some souls are sent to earth purely to sacrifice themselves for the betterment of mankind. History is full of such characters and as a general rule they have not been well received, some even crucified.

We should thank Luis Suarez for a noble incarnation providing all this education for us. We as astrologers salute him, we know what its like to be casting our pearls before swine only to be pilloried by all and sundry.

Even now readers of this article could well be noting that its easy to say these things with hindsight. Whilst its true that Capricorn research possess hindsight that is 20 / 20, the foresight’s not bad too as evidenced by these articles written over the past year.

But what next for the man himself ? There is still more to come from Pluto.

It comes to exact conjunction with his Mars on the 21st August.

The other planets have all moved on but Jupiter and Mars make aspects to his Sun during the first week of August.

Jupiter’s opposition to the Sun looks like the perfect time for a transfer abroad. Of course there are only two clubs that are stupid or rich enough to fall for this one, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

There have even been rumours of a player cash swap deal with Barca and Chile star Alexi Sanchez.

Capricorn Research is really hoping this move happens because Sanchez also has Mars in Aries at 14 degrees 12. So we could be looking at the whole thing happening again at the beginning of 2015.

When does the Suarez ban end ? October 26th 2014 on the very day that Pluto makes its last square aspect to Suarez’ Mars exactly at 11.15 Capricorn.

October 26th is Pluto’s curtain call. It is saying, thank you for the attention and applause, my work is done here, I will now head off to torture some other poor unsuspecting soul. Now where’s that bloke from Chile ….
