It’s now ten years since I finished compiling the data for the Capricorn Astrology Research Project
It would take me a further ten lifetimes to analyse it all completely.
I picked some of the obvious headline results and wrote articles about them but I’m still coming up with new ideas of connections to explore. These ideas often come in an indirect way but I have always recognised the synchronicity involved and been happy to pursue them.
When I first did the research my analytical software was limited, since then I have added some more. In order to use it, however, I have to manually copy each chart into a new folder ( don’t ask why ) and have put off this Herculean task for some time.
Recently I thought I might begin doing it bit by bit, so I’ve now worked through the As.
My experience is that any Saturnian hard work in astrological fields always pays off in time and I started to notice particular patterns of Mars aspects in the charts of members of the Armed Forces.
I have 457 timed charts in this category.
For major aspects ( conjunction, opposition, square and trine ) I am allowing an orb of 10 degrees.
This would create an expected average figure of 25.4 for the first two and 50.8 for the squares and trines.
My view on samples of this size is that a distribution of over 30% above or below the average would have statistical significance.
The highest scoring aspect for the Armed Forces group is the Moon / Mars opposition with 38. This scores at 149.6% of the expected figure.
If you contrast this with another Mars opposition, this time to Saturn, the result is stunning. Mars opposite Saturn scores a mere 13, 51.2 % of the expected score.
So Mars is opposite the Moon about 3 times as frequently as its opposite Saturn.
This would fit with astrological theory as a Moon / Mars opposition would indicate a keeness to express aggression whereas the Mars / Saturn one would show a tendency to inhibit it.
The next highest scoring aspect is the Mars / Pluto conjunction with 34 which is 133.9% of the expected figure.
Mars / Jupiter aspects score consistently highly with the combined total for the conjunction, opposition and square being 124 which is 122% of the expected score for them.
In order to gain some kind of comparative perspective I looked at the Armed Forces Venus aspects.
All of these fell well within expected ranges apart from one.
This was Venus opposite Jupiter which scored a mere 15 – 59% of the expected score.
I suppose when you’ve got that many strong Mars aspects you’re too busy fighting to indulge your artistic side.
I’ve had some considerable success when looking at comparing some groups with others – Were You Born With A Silver Spoon Or A Wooden One ? shows why the Royal Family own half of Scotland while people born into adopted families own half of nothing.
The simplest comparison to make with members of the Armed Forces was with the next group alphabetically, the Artists.

The Artist group has 783 members, obviously larger than the Armed Forces group but this doesn’t matter as we are comparing the percentage scores relative to the expected average.
The Mars scores for the Artists are well within the expected ranges. The only one that comes close is the Moon trine Mars which scores 108 and is 124.1% of the expected score.
It would be reasonable to expect this one to score highly anyway.
But the one aspect for artists that comes way out on top is the Venus / Jupiter conjunction with 59, which is 135.6% of the expected figure.
So the Venus / Jupiter conjunction for artists scores over twice as high as the opposition of the same planets does for military types.
So here we have yet more concrete proof of an astrological link.
Mars makes you work, fight and slay while Venus makes you paint, rest and play.
