What kind of chart would we expect for a man who conquered and ruled over the biggest European empire since the Romans ?
A strong Sun and Jupiter surely ?
How about a T square apex 10th house Sun in Leo with Jupiter rising ?

Napoleon was a great general and brilliant military strategist, something that would be evident from his apex Mercury in Leo in the 9th house and his Mars in Virgo in a Grand Trine including Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
He was also a lucky general with Jupiter rising.
But an analysis of his chart as megalomaniac ruler and warrior is not the subject of this article.
We are looking into soulmates and when they arrive in someone’s life so we need to consider 7th house planets and Venus, and possibly the Moon as well.
This is where we start to see problems.
Uranus is in the 7th suggesting an erratic and unpredictable marriage and its place in Napoleon’s T square providing him with more personal fuel for his military conquests.
His Moon is in Capricorn opposite Saturn so he experiences much frustration in his emotional life. Saturn being in Cancer there could well be family problems.
And his Sun is semi square Venus.
Given the fact that I have written many articles dismissing the use of minor aspects, why am I including this one ?
It’s because Venus never strays more than 48 degrees from the Sun so there are only two aspects possible. The conjunction which would be very favourable and the 45 degree semi square which is challenging and difficult.
If we examine the sign placements of the Sun and Venus we can see the problem.
Leo and Cancer have one thing in common, children.
So for a monarch a semi square between a Leo Sun and Cancer Venus means Napoleon would have a great deal of trouble finding a mate who would give him an heir, particularly if he married one with similar astrological themes.

The Empress Josephine had a Cancer Sun exactly conjunct Mars and opposite a 7th house Pluto.
This theme worked throughout her life.
Her first husband, Alexandre de Beauharnais, was executed during the Reign Of Terror.
Josephine was married to him aged 16 in 1779 when her progressed Sun was square to Uranus. It was not a happy marriage, her husband had numerous affairs.
Who was Josephine’s true love ? It was certainly not Napoleon.
Its difficult to say as she had so may affairs, but it could well have been revolutionary leader, Paul Barras whose Sun at 8 Cancer was conjunct hers and Venus 7 Gemini was exactly conjunct her Ascendant.
Josephine’s progressed Venus was conjunct her Sun in 1790 and progressed Sun was sextile her Venus in 1792, the latter certainly seems to have coincided with her affair with Barras.
As with all Josephine’s men, Barras had several affairs and even introduced Josephine to Napoleon because he wanted to get the military man onside.
” Barras strongly advised her to marry Napoleon. She said she would not. Then Barras told her that he had a new mistress, that he couldn’t afford to maintain them both, that she was very expensive to maintain, and that if she didn’t marry Napoleon he would stop providing for her and she would, in effect, be thrown out on the street. Therefore, she gave in and agreed to marry Napoleon. She knew that she was barren and had been so for some time.
They were married and a few days later Napoleon departed to Italy. She despised him and thought he was a total bore. As soon as he was gone she began playing around on him.”
While she had three children from her first marriage she was unable to have any with Napoleon.
Josephine’s Venus in the 12th conjunct Jupiter in Gemini opposite Moon in Sagittarius meant she had many secret affairs while her husband was off playing war games.
As we’ve seen in previous articles, secondary progressions can indicate when a member of your soul group will come into your life and also which chart themes they will be there to help you experience.
And sometimes two come at once.
Josephine met Napoleon in 1795, they married in March 1796. Two days after the wedding Napoleon left to fight a campaign in Italy. Josephine was miffed so she took a lover, Hippolyte Charles.
When we start to look at progressions we can see that the exact degree positions in a chart become really important.
Josephine had her 7th house Pluto at 2.32 Capricorn, her 12th house Jupiter at 2.43 Gemini.
Her progressed Sun was quincunx Pluto and sextile Jupiter when they married.
Bizarrely, her progressed Sun was sesquiquadrate ( 135 degrees ) her Pluto and semisquare her Sun / Mars in 1810 when their marriage was annulled.
What about Napoleon’s progressions ?
His progressed Mars was trine his Moon when he met and married Josephine.
His progressed Venus was semi square his natal Venus when the marriage was annulled.
Napoleon instantly married 19 year old Marie Louise, Archduchess of Austria.
His progressed Venus was conjunct his Sun in 1811 – 12, which could be referring to Marie Louise but given the natal Sun semi square Venus in Cancer and the problems with having an heir, its more likely to be his only legitimate child, also called Napoleon and known as the King of Rome who was born in 1811.
Napoleon was exiled to Elba, died in 1814 and was succeeded by his son Napoleon 11, who only reigned for a few weeks.
British readers will be familiar with the term ” P45 “. It’s what an employer gives you when you get the sack. Handing someone their P45 has become synonymous with giving them the boot.
Napoleon handed Josephine hers when his progressed Venus was 45 his natal Venus and her progressed Sun was 45 her natal Sun.
I don’t have that much in common with Napoleon ( some astrologers might suggest a complex). I do have a Sun semi square Venus though.
I was also in a loveless marriage, engaged in just for business and family reasons.
My ex had Venus and Mars in Aquarius in the 7th house, Mars being opposite to Uranus. She batted for the other team.
Napoleon annulled his marriage to Josephine and married Marie Louise when his progressed Venus was conjunct his Sun, I ended mine and married my soulmate when my progressed Venus was conjunct my Ascendant.
Both Napoleon and I have a Capricorn Moon aspecting a 9th house Saturn.
His aspect was an opposition so he spent his last years exiled on the Devil’s Island.
Mine is a close sextile, so I get to spend the rest of my days on the largest island in the world, God’s own country.
