Qatar 22 – Still In The Age Of The Water Carrier ?

We are only a month away but it still looks like the most stupid and corrupt decision in the history of football.

To hold the World Cup in the middle of the desert and the middle of the season benefits no-one other than the kingdom of Qatar itself and the pockets of people like Sepp Blatter, the now banned and disgraced head of FIFA at the time the absurd decision was made.

What would the astrology of this be ?

If there is a birth chart for the World Cup it would have to be the one for the first match played in it.

The first tournament was an understated affair with 13 teams but only 4 from Europe because of the difficulties travelling in 1930.

But despite this, that chart for the inaugural match already shows that the World Cup would become a financial monster.

The Sun exactly conjunct Pluto in Cancer ( the most acquisitive sign ) in the 8th house ( of other people’s money ) immediately points in this direction.

Not convinced ? Well check out the similarities with the chart of the most financially obsessed nation on earth then.

The US chart has Sun in Cancer in the 8th house with Jupiter at almost the same degree as this one.

The Moon is also in late Aquarius with Sagittarius rising.

And just to prove that the Qatar is the nadir for the World Cup, Saturn will be closely conjunct the 1930 Moon as this year’s final kicks off.

Pluto’s powerful position in any chart will always point to a time when the themes will be triggered in a powerful devastating way.

And with this Sun / Pluto in the 8th house, there has to be grave concern for the tournament’s very soul.

So in 2018, when transit Pluto in the 2nd house came to exactly oppose the 1930 Sun, the World Cup’s soul was sold to Vladimir Putin as the tournament was held in Russia.

It is really hard to summon any interest in the Qatar experience, so I’m not going to attempt to predict the result of every match, like I did with considerable success for Brazil 2014 – see How To Predict Football Matches

So maybe we will just look at the most likely winners.

And when we look at previous tournament winners we find that Pluto has played a massive role.

The early tournaments don’t really count.

England were particularly dismissive, refusing to participate until 1950 in Brazil when they got paid back for their arrogance with a humiliating defeat to the USA team.

Pluto also largely ignored it, having more important things to do like causing the Depression and World War Two but once it turned its attentions to it, unlike England, the planet won it at the first attempt.

Brazil were beaten in the 1950 final by Uruguay. Pluto, of course, loves to dispense shocks and the notion of the overwhelming and arrogant favourites being humiliated on their own turf by a tiny nation next door was just too good to resist.

Regular readers of this blog will know that as no birth data is available for the teams themselves, we have to be content with noon charts only for the managers. This applies to the World Cup but there’s also something about the team captain’s chart that can work as well.

In 1950 Pluto was square Uruguay manager Juan Lopez Fontana’s Mars.  The Uruguay captain was Obdulio Varela, commonly regarded as one of the greatest classic holding midfielders, adept in defence and, appropriately for a Scorpio Moon, renowned for his tenacity and leadership. Pluto was square Obdulio’s Moon in 1950.

Out of the 16 World Cups from 1950 onwards Pluto has made major aspects to the manager and / or captain’s chart in 12 of them.

Three of the others were benefitting from Jupiter transits. 1954 was a Jupiter year for German manager Sepp Herberger and captain Fritz Walter.

The two planets shared the honours in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. Pluto was square to Brazil manager Vicente Feola’s Sun but this tournament was known for the emergence of the greatest player ever, Pele and fittingly Jupiter was conjunct his Scorpio Sun at the time.

For Brazil’s 1962 manager, Mauro Ramos the World Cup was the turning point of his life as Pluto was conjunct his Sun.

Everyone knows that the greatest ever tournament was 1966, but this time Jupiter and Pluto were battling against each other. England captain Bobby Moore lifted the trophy with Jupiter square his Sun. The West German manager, Helmut Schon, had Pluto conjunct his Sun and if the 11 year old Capricorn Research had known about astrology at the time it would have been tempting to bet some pocket money on a German victory. Pluto has enormous power and influence over life and death but not it seems over Russian linesmen.

Actually, everyone knows that the greatest ever tournament was in 1970 and both Brazil manager Mario Zagallo and captain Carlos Alberto had Pluto square their Moon at the time.

By 1974, West German manager Schon had already had his near miss Pluto experience but this tournament was one for the imperious captain Franz Beckenbauer who had the planet square his Mars.

Argentina’s first in 1978 was for chain smoking manager Cesar Luis Menotti who had Pluto opposite his Moon, his captain Daniel Passarella had Jupiter square his.

This aspect that was repeated in 1982 for Italy goalkeeper captain, Dino Zoff.

The tournament in 1986 was all about one man, Diego Maradona so naturally both planets were in agreement. Maradona is a Scorpio and Pluto conjunct a Scorpio Sun is without doubt the most powerful astrological transit known to man. Jupiter was conjunct his Moon as well. Although it was really not needed, Pluto was also square manager Carlos Bilardo’s Moon.

In 1990, the two planets were in agreement again as Jupiter was conjunct German captain Lothar Matthaus’ Mars but really this tournament belonged to one man as well, the only one to win it as captain and manager, Beckenbauer who had Pluto conjunct his Moon.

The 1994 final was so boring that both Pluto and Jupiter refused to turn up so the malefic Saturn took the opportunity to create some mischief and suffering. The only final ever to finish 0-0 ended with Roberto Baggio, the player of the tournament, blazing the deciding penalty over the bar. Saturn was square his Moon at the time.

No one expected Aime Jacquet to be a World Cup winning manager but they would have done if they’d seen that Pluto was conjunct his Sun in 1998. Captain Didier Deschamps had Jupiter trine his Moon.

Brazil’s Phil Scolari had Pluto conjunct his Mars in 2002 and his captain Cafu had it opposite his Sun.

Marcelo Lippi, the Italian manager had Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune aspecting his Mars in 2006 and the captain Fabio Cannavaro had Pluto square his Moon.

Vicente Del Bosch, for Spain, had Pluto just past his Sun in 2010, but of course the real turning point for both him and Spain was the European Championship win in 2008 when Pluto was in exact conjunction.

Joachim Low the German manager had Jupiter square his Moon for the 2014 victory

And in 2018 it was France with manager Didier Deschamps having Pluto square his Sun.

So what about this one.

Before the Euros I predicted England and Italy as the teams most likely to win it. As it turned out they both reached the final with Roberto Mancini edging it on penalties.

Uranus was trine Southgate’s Sun and Jupiter opposite his Mars so that looked like being his best chance to win a trophy.

In Qatar he will have Pluto trine his Mercury, which I wouldn’t consider a significant transit, apart from the fact that Southgate has the two in close conjunction in his natal chart.

However Saturn will be opposite Gareth’s Mars for much of next year and then opposing his Sun.

With these transits it seems unlikely that he would be still around for the next Euros which he would be if England won the World Cup.

The favourites are Brazil.

Manager Tite has an extremely favourable chart with a Sun, Moon, Jupiter Grand Trine with Mars in Leo forming a Kite.

However there’s nothing particular happening for him during the tournament

But captain Thiago Silva has Jupiter opposite his Sun on the day of the final. Silva is 38 years old and not sure to start but if he does that transit would take some beating.

Argentina manager Scaloni has Uranus square to his Mars but Saturn square his Sun and opposite itself in the New Year would probably see him moved on after a disappointing World Cup.

And there’s nothing in Lionel Messi’s transits that could really change that.

Germany’s Hansi Flick has Neptune opposite his Mars and will have Saturn conjunct his Sun next year so another one will probably be moved on after a disappointing tournament.

Luis Enrique has Uranus conjunct his Sun and given that the lunar eclipse which happens close to the tournament’s start, Spain could either win it or fall flat in an embarrassing group stage disaster.

If they make it to the final however, Mars will be exactly conjunct Enrique’s Venus / Mars conjunction in Gemini so Spain would have to be a threat.

What about the holders ?

French manager Deschamps with the Sun in Libra, Moon in Cancer with Mars in Virgo does not suggest the kind of character that would grab the world’s attention.

As a player he was a functional midfielder dismissively called ” The Water Carrier ” by Eric Cantona.

But that T square with the Sun’s opposition to Saturn gives a steely resolve and a strong work ethic.

As mentioned earlier he had Pluto square his Sun for the victory in 2018.

This time round he has Pluto opposite his Moon.

He also has Jupiter trine that Moon, exactly the same transit that he had when he captained the 1998 winning side.

It’s also worth noting that both strikers Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema will have Jupiter square to their Suns. Which could play out as an interesting drama in itself as neither would be that keen on playing alongside the other.

Back in 1970, Brazil’s third victory meant the kept the Jules Rimet trophy.

So in the last World Cup before Pluto goes into the sign of the Water Bearer, I think they should give the FIFA trophy to the Water Carrier to take home with him.

We might as well give up then because if the world actually makes it to next one in 2026, the tournament will be unrecognisable. With 48 teams competing the only connection will be that it has found a place for virtually all the football playing nations.

And after Russia and Qatar the only worse place to stage it would be the USA.
