The biggest problem that mankind faces is that we all have access to infinite quantities of information and other people’s opinions but very few have the necessary wisdom and experience to give this proper context and not be overwhelmed by it.
With astrology this problem becomes even more serious, because if we claim to have access to the forces that shape our destiny, the responsibility to use it constructively is immense.
There is a strong need for us to have a clear mind, detached from our own delusional opinions and feelings so that they don’t poison what we say in the name of astrology.
Obviously we are all conditioned by our own charts but I always assumed the need to have worked on both yourself and your subject before you start pontificating.
This is why I made no public statements at all for my first 40 years in astrology.
And also why I now feel qualified to make authoritative ones.
Astrology is supposed to lead us all to the light, but used in the wrong way it can just as easily lead us in the other direction.
When I look around the “astrology world” I see people who are not old enough to have done that work, spruiking all kinds of nonsense to hundreds of thousands of followers.
One of these people became so obsessed with conspiratorial warnings about the recent solar eclipse, that she ended up murdering her partner and her baby before killing herself.
One problem is that even to receive astrological information you have to have done some work on yourself.
Even by mentioning the above tragedy, I will inevitably receive flak from members of the so called Astro community.
I am used to that, but my allegiance is to astrology itself, and feel a strong need to defend it against people who bring it into disrepute.
But to save us all having to listen to these predictable responses, I shall say no more about the above incident, and concentrate instead on one that would have caused much more controversy 30 years ago.
About a year ago I ran a game for followers on my FB page called Murdle.
I would put up 4 random charts, one of which was a murderer and people had to guess which it was. The success rate was about 70% which is pretty impressive when you think it should be 25%.
But if I’d included OJ Simpson’s chart as a potential wife killer, I’m pretty sure no-one would have picked it.
But I doubt if many would have picked it as belonging to an American football star either.
If you were on a date with a Cancer Sun, Pisces Moon, Leo Rising you wouldn’t be concerned whether you’d make it through the evening.
No doubt there were many astrologers queueing up to call the Saturn/Pluto conjunction as the offending placement, perhaps forgetting that this would incriminate everyone in the whole world born between September 1946 and June 1948.
Some might point to the Moon in the 8th in square to Uranus to finger OJ, but all this does is bring in an unusual death theme.
In truth, Simpson’s lawyers themselves could have used his chart as evidence of his innocence.
Apart from the fact that we all know he did it.
And in a way, this makes the crime even more despicable, because if someone had a really tough chart, say with a Mars/Saturn/Pluto T square, we could point to that and say these energies compelled them to commit those deeds.
But someone with a Water Grand Trine involving the Sun, Moon and Jupiter?
There could be no defence here, apart from possibly narcissism and their own feelings of entitlement.
The easy aspect issue is compounded by the planetary movements at the time.
In July 1994, when Nicole Simpson was murdered, transit Pluto was trine OJ’s Moon and Uranus was sextile it.
His progressed Sun was sextile his Venus.
But once we accept that someone with such an easy chart could commit such a horrific act, these same transits and progressions condemn him.
Because these easy aspects facilitated it and at the same time allowed him to get away with it.
If Simpson’s chart was an easy one his wife’s was anything but.
As all readers of my articles will know, while planets in signs might be a fair judge of character, it’s the aspects between them that delineate the person’s life themes.
The T square is a challenging but relatively common pattern.
When there are ten planets it’s not that difficult to find three of them pulling in conflicting, opposition and square directions.
Two separate T squares would be much more unusual, because six planets would be required.
Three T squares with no crossover is both extremely rare, and incredibly stressful.
Nicole Brown Simpson had three T squares involving all of her planets apart from Mars.
With apex planets of Pluto, Uranus and a 7th house Libra Moon, I’m convinced at least 90% of my Murdle followers would have picked her as a murder victim.
An apex Moon in Libra in the 7th house of marriage would suggest someone whose life would be dominated by the themes of her partner.
The Moon’s pattern involved Venus in Cancer in the 5th house opposite Saturn, which looks very much like a controlling domestic situation.
The other two T squares contained oppositions between personal planets with others in the 8th house of death.
Her Sun’s exact opposition to Jupiter in Scorpio, suggests being on the receiving end of something sinister from a very powerful character. The apex Pluto in the 6th house, indicating that whatever it was, it would be really bad for her health.
Mercury’s opposition to Neptune in the 8th could be pointing to injustice and the perpetrator escaping punishment for his deed.
The synastry between the two is not obvious either.
Nicole’s Sun is sextile OJ’s Moon and they both have Venus in early Cancer.
But once we see that Nicole’s chart would pick her out as someone who be likely to be bumped off by her partner, there are incriminating clues.
All her apex planets fall tightly onto significant placements in OJ’s chart.
The Libra Moon is exactly (within 10 minutes) conjunct his Neptune.
Her Uranus is within half a degree of his Pluto.
And her Pluto falls exactly (a quarter of a degree) square to his Nodes.
When there is a chart with more than one T square, any outer apex planet of one configuration will cause absolute havoc when its transits hit another one.
In 1994 when Nicole was murdered, her apex Pluto was transiting opposite her Sun and her other apex Uranus was trine it.
Bringing all three patterns together at the same time for the only time in her life.
So the same transits that facilitated OJ Simpson’s Pisces Moon in the 8th house, wreaked havoc on his ex wife’s Sun.
And of course that Pluto was transiting conjunct Nicole’s 8th house Jupiter, fingering OJ as the likely killer.
Perhaps the end result could have been seen on their wedding day.
I don’t have a time for the nuptials but most weddings occur in the early afternoon so I’ve gone for this timing.
Either way a T square based on a Moon in Cancer opposite Neptune focused on an exact Mars/Venus conjunction at 0 Aries looks like a cast iron recipe for domestic violence.
Interestingly OJ’s progressions for 1985 were Mars conjunct his Venus.
If we progress this wedding chart to 1994 when Nicole was murdered, Venus had reached the exact square with the Moon.
There are many people who would say it’s not appropriate to use an astrology article to comment on this kind of tragedy. This, without seeing the irony involved in having read that article along with a great many other opinion pieces on precisely the same subject.
We all die, most of us are fortunate to do so in our dotage, some in horrendous accidents or in war, a very small number are murdered by their spouses.
The purpose of astrology is understanding. If we can all just put aside our own prejudices, illusions and opinions, we might just learn something useful about life.
