The posting of this horary chart has raised a lot of issues, not least whether it is appropriate to do so. I would like to try and address them here.
My view is that if something is appropriate for any kind of coverage in the media, it is absolutely fair to try and gain some understanding of it through the use of an astrological chart. I do not accept that permission has to be gained from the subjects themselves. We are simply talking about trying to understand a moment in time and using that to help our comprehension of the issues faced by those people.
Astrological knowledge is open to everyone who wishes to take the trouble to look, the signs are in the sky.
The only question here is whether it is actually appropriate to cast a horary for someone that you have no actual relationship to.
This is a thorny question within the discipline, but my own take on it is there is no morality involved, it is simply to do with the apportionment of house cusps, the basic principle on which horary astrology works.
Because horary is not natal astrology. In horary each planet represents a different person or at least a different situation or event.
So if someone is asking whether their mother will come to visit them, we simply look at the relationship between the chart ruler ( for the querent ) and the ruler of the 4th house ( for the mother ). If there is an applying aspect between the two, then the visit will happen. If not there’s a chance that it won’t.
The person who asked the question is not related to Nicola Bulley so the only real concern is how do we work out which planet in the chart signifies her.
Many books on horary will counsel against interpreting a question like this and for the large part I would agree with them. Some practitioners would make it a rule of the practice of horary itself, but I can’t agree with that.
I am a pragmatist. I only follow rules if they can be proven to work, otherwise what’s the point ?
Ultimately my own take on whether to interpret a chart or not is to trust the wisdom of the heavens themselves. If you approach a horary chart with an open mind it will absolutely tell you whether it wishes the question to be considered or not.
And this chart clearly does.
It is a question about someone’s death, so if we can’t clearly see the chart referring to that theme we don’t proceed.
Here the planet most associated with death, Pluto is rising. It is also in the final degree of the sign.
The Moon ( always of paramount importance in any horary chart ) is also in the final degree of its sign and its Void of Course ( there are no more aspects that it can make with other planets before it leaves that sign ).
So already the chart is reflecting and validating the question asked. It is therefore completely safe to proceed with an analysis of it.
Some horary practitioners have a specific method for assigning house cusps to someone who is not related to the questioner.
My take on this is why bother ?
We have already established that the Universe wants the chart to be read.
Let’s go for the simplest method and take the Ascendant and its ruler to signify Nicola.
If we have got the wrong significator, we will soon see that.
In this case its absolutely clear that this is the right method because the ruler is Saturn and it is severely weakened by being combust ( conjunct the Sun ).
The Sun is the ruler of the 8th house of death.
So from all these attributions we can see that Nicola Bulley is sadly, tragically but most very likely to be dead.
My only reservation here would be that the Sun is actually applying to a conjunction with Saturn which could possibly be suggesting that she might not be dead yet but she soon will be.
However the Moon having just past a square to Pluto is saying that she already is.
So I’m going with past tense here.
Obviously there are many questions relating to Nicola’s situation that have baffled the police and her family together with the millions of people who have expressed an interest in the case.
Did she drown in the river ?
Saturn is in Aquarius, an Air sign so that seems unlikely. But this also backs up the importance of significators.
Because if we were using Venus for Nicola, it’s conjunction with Neptune in Pisces would definitely be indicating drowning in a river. Neptune’s link with suicide might also be relevant.
So if at some point in the future she is found in the river we would need to reassess the basic premise of using the Ascendant ruler in situations like this.
When we are looking at a horary of a missing person, the significator’s planet, sign and house placing would be indicating where they are most likely to be found and their condition.
I’m not sure exactly what Saturn in Aquarius in the 2nd house is suggesting but perhaps more of that later.
Uranus in the 5th house would show what a terrible shock this would have been for Nicola’s children. The 5th house ruler Venus being conjunct Neptune in Pisces in the 3rd would indicate the awful confusion and fear that they are suffering.
Jupiter in the 4th house would perhaps be of some help. Jupiter is the 3rd house ruler so probably signifies Nicola’s sister who has moved into her home to help the family.
But as always in a horary question the Moon is the most important factor.
Here it is dominating the chart from the 10th house but it is Void of Course and as one poster pointed out is in the Via Combusta. This is the area of the Zodiac between 15 degrees Libra and 15 Scorpio.
It is considered to be a particularly hazardous place for the Moon to be, although I’m inclined to take this notion with the same pinch of salt that I keep on hand for many quaint astrology traditions.
The main reason this area was considered unsafe is because it was highly tenanted with Fixed Stars, many of them of a difficult nature.
My view on astrologers of the old days using Fixed Stars in their practice was to try to compensate for the fact that they didn’t know about Uranus, Neptune and Pluto so consequently missed out on most of the actual astrological indicators of the really challenging things that could occur in people’s lives. So they would have to search for other explanations.
Of course to announce this kind of thing in the current astrological climate is likely to be rewarded in the same way as shouting the name Jehovah in The Life Of Brian.
But while sticks and stones may break my bones, a whole bunch of people shouting very loudly about a ” personal attack ” to distract all and sundry from the simple fact that their theories don’t actually work, won’t stop me from saying stuff like this.
Anyway the actual Fixed Stars that were in the Via Combusta in those days are by and large not in that part of the Tropical Zodiac now due to Precession.
But it doesn’t really matter because the Moon in this chart is in a bad enough condition anyway.
When the Moon is Void it has no more aspects to make to other planets while in the sign its in, so therefore the question has no future.
The Moon is also exactly square the rising Pluto ( a mere 7 minutes of arc ) so it’s seriously ” not happy Jan “.
But what or who does the Moon signify ?
In this horary it rules the 7th house so it must signify Nicola’s partner, Paul Ansell.
The Moon being in the 10th house, ( particularly when everything else is below the horizon ) shows someone who is taking an unusually visible position in a situation like this.
Is he simply doing his bit to keep the police on track in their search or is he more involved in Nicola’s death and is trying to distract them from the truth ?
This is very difficult to say for sure from the horary, but the Moon’s extremely close square to Pluto does seem to be incriminating him.
It could just simply be referring to the fact that so many people on social media have been asking this question or it could actually be fingering him for the deed itself.
It’s interesting that the Moon has just passed a trine to Saturn ( Nicola ) in the 2nd house of money. Maybe he would stand to benefit from any life insurance that was taken out in Nicola’s name.
That doesn’t mean he was directly involved in her death though, it might just mean that he has a financial interest in it not being a suicide.
One thing this chart does seem to be saying is that we should find out fairly soon.
The Moon has less than one degree to go in Libra.
The Sun has 4 and a bit degrees to reach Saturn.
As a rule I would take 1 degree to be 1 month, so the Moon could be 1 month and the Sun 4 weeks.
On the other hand we could be talking the Moon weeks and the Sun days, in which case we could know by Friday.
We might not be able to tell exactly what happened from looking into this horary although it can confirm certain suspicions that we may have as having some validity.
One thing we can say for sure is the Universe is totally fine with us looking at a horary to help us understand what is happening. This chart is describing the Nicola Bulley situation loud and clear.
