Grand aspect patterns are a wonderful present for an astrologer looking to interpret a chart. They give a clear indication of the major themes in a life, and a whole character analysis could be largely built on the apex planet of a T Square. We often think of T Squares and Grand Crosses as providing the planetary energies that create the challenges in a person’s life that force them to act in a certain way. We see them as intrinsically difficult and demanding patterns that generate tensions constantly demanding the client’s attention and try to help them see these problems as opportunities for achievement. Capricorn Research has to admit to a slight feeling of disappointment when presented with a chart that contains none of these patterns.
It is important to remember however, that these patterns are generated by astronomical factors and that there are long periods of time when the planetary positions cannot produce them.
Throughout the whole of the 1940s, for example, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were all contained within the 5 signs from Taurus to Libra. Mercury and Venus are always very close to the Sun, so from May to October every year 7 planets would always be contained within one half of the Zodiac. From 1941 – 45 Jupiter would be in the same area, so this leaves only the Moon and Mars that could appear outside of this group.
Throughout 1942 and for most of 1944, Mars would lie in the same area and for half of every month the Moon would as well. So for everyone born between 1941 and 45, there would be a one in eight chance of the Sun, Moon and all of the planets being contained between Taurus and Libra. Equally there would be the same chance of having no opposition aspects at all and for many people, not many square aspects either.
A almost identical thing happened between the signs from Virgo to Capricorn throughout the 1980s.
It would be preposterous to assume that all these people had no significant tensions in their life, in fact it could be argued that this overloading of one half of the Zodiac helped to create the conditions for the 2nd World War and perhaps the height of the Cold War and downfall of the Soviet Union.
When dealing with such a one sided chart the important thing to focus on is the particular aspects that there are. There will probably not be as many as in other charts, but the ones that are there will be stronger and have a bigger effect on the person. The simple fact of having everything contained within half of the Zodiac means there is likely to be more conjunctions and the few square aspects that exist, become very much more important.
One example of this kind of chart is that of American conspiracy theorist, Bill Cooper.
Cooper was born in 1943 so it doesn’t quite fit the model as Mars is the rogue planet falling in the other half of the Zodiac in Pisces. Mars does not make any opposition aspects, however so we can treat this chart in the same way.
What we do have is five planets in Gemini, four of which are in an extremely close cluster and two ( the Moon and Saturn ) are in square aspect to Mars. Venus is in square to Neptune and Pluto to the Ascendant.
Gemini is the sign of ideas and communication so anyone with this combination would have an awful lot to say about everything. Mercury the planet of communication is in the sign but in close conjunction to the eccentric and controversial Uranus, showing that much of what Cooper had to say was radical and contentious.
The fact that the only interplanetary aspects other than the conjunctions are squares from his Gemini planets to Neptune and Mars in Neptune’s sign, Pisces, indicates that a lot of Bill Cooper’s ideas are either inspired insights gained from another realm or hallucinatory delusions born of a confused mind.
Cooper has the Sun and Ascendant in Taurus, which unlike Gemini, is a sign of great stubbornness which tends to hold its opinions quite strongly.
One of the factors in a chart with so much Gemini would be an adaptability and a tendency to change one’s own mind frequently and hold different views throughout the life. For Geminis as a rule, its not so important what is being discussed, but just the sheer fact of communication.
Saturn’s placing in the Gemini cluster, particularly in close conjunction to the Moon, meant that he would receive a lot of negativity for the expression of his views particularly from people in authority.
The fact that the Moon and Saturn are square to Mars would show that Cooper’s response to such negative responses ( Saturn ) would be all out attack mode ( Mars ).
The combination of these factors would suggest someone who is prepared to hold any views strongly and to change them at will just as long as they were always controversial, challenging and disruptive, provoking fights with people in authority and even with his own colleagues.
Bill Cooper was an American former Naval Intelligence officer who became deeply involved in the UFO culture with revelations of a sinister alien plot to control humanity. His conspiracy theories claimed that the government was covering up not only UFOs but a secret governing society, and that we had secret bases established on the Moon and on Mars, built in the ‘50s. Cooper claimed that the flying saucers were a secret weapon first invented by the Nazis during WW II. The “One World Government” at Area 51 planned to use these craft to stage a mock alien invasion. The alien threat would give the government the excuse to take away all guns and impose federal restrictions.
According to Cooper there are four types of aliens: two kinds of “Grays”, including one race, not commonly seen, that has a large nose. Then there are the “Nordic” types, tall blonde Aryans, and finally the “Orange” ones. Several points of origin were mentioned: Orion, the Pleiades, Betelgeuse, Barnard’s star and Zeta Reticuli. They power their ships with a small nuclear reactor the size of a football, using a space-time fold and have the ability to cloak themselves, to become invisible.
Cooper claimed to have seen secret documents while in the Navy describing governmental dealings with extraterrestrial aliens. He and his fellow ship mates had seen several UFOs rise up from the ocean and disappear into the clouds. He insisted that the Navy’s sonar had also detected these objects and that a superior officer made him sign an agreement that he was not to discuss these events with anyone.
He accused President Eisenhower of negotiating a treaty with extraterrestrials in 1954, then establishing an inner circle of Illuminati to manage relations with them and keep their presence a secret from the general public. Cooper believed that aliens “manipulated and/or ruled the human race through various secret societies, religions, magic, witchcraft, and the occult”, and that even the Illuminati were unknowingly being manipulated by them.
According to Cooper, the Illuminati was a secret international organization, controlled by the Bilderberg Group, that conspired with the Knights of Columbus, Masons, Skull and Bones, and other organizations. Its ultimate goal, he said, was the establishment of a New World Order. According to Cooper the Illuminati conspirators not only invented alien threats for their own gain, but actively conspired with extraterrestrials to take over the world.
Like most conspiracy theorists, Bill Cooper had his own take on the assassination of John F. Kennedy. His was more bizarre than most as it asserted that Kennedy was killed by the driver of his own limousine, William Greer, who used “a gas pressure device developed by aliens” to shoot the president from the driver’s seat. The reason for this was that Kennedy was apparently about to reveal that extraterrestrials were in the process of taking over the Earth.
According to Top Secret documents he claimed to have read in the Navy, Cooper reported that to mark the year 2000, the Illuminati would use the Galileo space craft to detonate 49.7 pounds of plutonium as it reached the planet Jupiter, which would cause a nuclear reaction turning the planet into another sun. He said that this new star would be called Lucifer and would be cited as a miracle or a sign that the Antichrist was a god and the messiah had appeared.
He also claimed that “I read while in Naval Intelligence that at least once a year, maybe more, two nuclear submarines meet beneath the polar icecap and mate together at an airlock. Representatives.. of the Soviet Union meet with the Policy Committee of the Bilderberg Group,” where “The Russians are given the script for their next performance…Thi..s method of meeting is the only way that is safe from detection and/or bugging.”
Cooper also proposed that AIDS was the result of a conspiracy to decrease the populations of blacks, Hispanics, and homosexuals.
Bill Cooper’s style is confrontational and contradictory, many detractors have pointed out factual errors in his stories but his view was that discrepancies, errors and even false statements just aren’t very important, when you’re dealing with the truth. He often accused his UFO colleagues to be CIA agents and physically threatened them.
He has been accused of being an alcoholic, a liar and a fascist and even a psychopath.
If there is one planet that likes a drama its Pluto and as its in square aspect to Bill Cooper’s Ascendant, its transits were bound to play an important part in these revelations.
Cooper first made his claims when he burst onto the UFO scene in 1988. His book ‘ Behold a Pale Horse ‘, which brought together his extraordinary philosophy, came out in 1991. The was the turning point of his life as Pluto made its only transit to his Sun, an opposition between 1988 and 1990.
The only other major transit was in 1999 – 2001 when Pluto created a T Square opposite the Moon / Saturn conjunction and square to Mars.
In the late 1990s Bill Cooper moved away from the UFO scene toward the militia and anti-government group subculture, he became convinced that he was being personally targeted by President Bill Clinton and the IRS. In July 1998 he was charged with tax evasion and an arrest warrant was issued but not executed, resulting in his being named a “major fugitive” by the US Marshals Service in 2000.
On November 5, 2001 Apache County sheriff’s deputies attempted to arrest Cooper on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and endangerment stemming from earlier disputes with local residents. After an exchange of gunfire during which Cooper shot one of the deputies in the head, he was fatally shot, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service, he had vowed that “he would not be taken alive”.
While Capricorn Research loves nothing better than a well argued conspiracy theory, even if just for entertainment value, the line has to be drawn somewhere and it ought to be some way short of Bill Cooper. Sometimes it helps to have planets in the other have of the Zodiac just to provide a bit of balance.
