I’ve always believed that people’s names are very important.
Your name is something that you hear thousands of times from birth in reference to you. You become identified with the way it sounds, the intonation that is used when people say it.
Most names have meanings and powerful associations.
I was called Christopher, which is derived from the Greek word Christóforos, meaning “bearer of Christ.” It is composed of two Greek elements Christós (Christ) and phero (to bear, carry). Christopher was also associated with Saint Christopher, patron saint of travelers who according to legend carried the Christ Child over a dangerous river.
I was due to be born on Christmas Day, but in true Capricorn style, was a few hours late so began this incarnation on Boxing Day.
So if you throw in a 12th house Sun, Moon and Ascendant Capricorn into that mix, I was obviously destined from birth to become a researcher with a messiah complex.
This is perhaps an odd way of introducing an article about a footballer who was accused of rape, but it got me thinking about what it would have meant to be called Mason.
A mason or a freemason conjures images of an exclusive mens organisation, with secret handshakes and agreements made to help each other up life’s greasy pole.
It has pretensions of religious and occult traditions but for the most part is a run by senior policemen and other small time authority figures and largely crewed by taxi drivers and the like who believe that being a mason makes them part of some kind of elite.
It has a Jupiterean flavour, but in a very Cancer / Capricorn fashion.
The first Masonic Grand Lodge, the Grand Lodge of London and Westminster, later called the Grand Lodge of England, was founded on St John’s Day, 24 June 1717.
Cancer is a sign that has a very strongly developed sense of us and them. Boundaries are usually drawn quite tightly – you’re either in or out.
A Sun / Venus / Jupiter conjunction in Cancer opposite a Capricorn Moon with a T square to an apex Saturn is a very powerful, rule dominated organisation that is run exclusively to protect and nurture the dubious careers of its members.
Some might call freemasonry and the power that it wields particularly in Britain as a form of corruption, and a force for preservation of the status quo.
Institutional misogyny would never be far from the surface of these clubs for the boys.
So what if you went through your young life being called mason ?

The charges were dropped in February when the Crown Prosecution Service said there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction” after key witnesses withdrew their cooperation from the investigation. Greenwood denied all charges. “
Maybe Mason Greenwood was a member of a secret society that included members of the police and judiciary.
This recent development came to a head after United showed a reluctance to write off a footballer with promising career and even tried to shift the responsibility for such a decision onto three of their own women’s team who were playing for their country in the World Cup at the time.
The media approbriation that followed forced the club’s hand, and there is now a lengthening queue of clubs from Saudi Arabia looking to take advantage of Greenwood’s availability.
Given the Saudi view of women, this looks like a win for both new club and player.
The owners of United, the Glazer family who always look like they’ve come straight to a match from the local lodge, while still keeping their aprons on underneath, will be hated even more than usual because of it.
But what about the birthchart of the player that has caused such a ruckus ?
Mason Greenwood, like the Grand Lodge has Jupiter in Cancer opposing a Capricorn planet and aspecting his Sun.
The fact that this combination forms a T square, and the Capricorn planet is Mars indicates that he would be a highly skilled sportsman but also hold somewhat old fashioned views about gender roles and sexuality.
Given that he has another T square, with Venus at the apex of the 9 / 11 Saturn / Pluto opposition, its fair to say that his view on the role of women would be similar to that of the marauding vikings of yesteryear.
Greenwood has not played for United for over 18 months since his arrest. In that time transit Neptune has been conjunct his natal Moon so his promising career has been in limbo.
T Squares are fairly common aspect patterns, but to have two is quite unusual as that would require at least 6 planets to be spread throughout the chart and given that Mercury and Venus are usually very close to the Sun, the number of options for this are limited.
One that springs to mind is another sports personality with perhaps ” Ancient Danish ” views of the opposite sex.
Tiger Woods also has a T square involving Jupiter, the Sun and Capricorn.
He has a 2nd one with the Moon in Sagittarius opposite Mars with an apex Ascendant.
In fact there is also a 3rd wider one incorporating Mercury / Saturn and Uranus.
His extraordinary achievements as probably the greatest golfer of all time, sit alongside his well documented addiction to prescription drugs and having sex with everyone that comes into view, with the odd car accident thrown in is probably what you’d expect from having three T squares that involve every placement in his chart, bar Venus.

Or perhaps it’s the inevitable consequence of being christened Tiger.
My birthday is 4 days before Woods’ own.
I have just the one T square – but it does have some masonic qualities in that it’s a Capricorn Ascendant exactly opposite Jupiter in Cancer.
But it also includes Uranus and Neptune, so my job is to drag these secretive masons out of their closet and into the light through astrological exposure.
And despite my name and due birthdate, most people in the astrology community would say ” He’s not the messiah – he’s a very naughty boy “.
