We all know the power of social media, how one apparently insignificant act committed by an equally unknown person can be pounced upon and quickly turned into a global phenomenon. Many of these episodes are utterly unpredictable, although some issues are more so than others.
There is nothing that fans the flames like a murder trial as the current coverage of Oscar Pistorius would testify. If like with the O J Simpson case, the final verdict does not meet with majority public approval there is hell to pay.
Why does a case become a cause celebre ? Are there astrological reasons for some getting the viral treatment and other similar ones being relatively ignored ?
The trial of Casey Anthony ticks a lot of boxes. Time magazine described it as “the social media trial of the century”.
Casey Anthony was the mother of two year old Caylee who mysteriously disappeared in June 2008. Casey was tried for her daughter’s murder.
Mysterious disappearance is obviously the province of Neptune, so its no surprise to find that it is in exact opposition to both Caylee’s Sun and Ascendant.
When it comes to the symbolism of an innocent young child, there a few signs that we could expect to be involved. Leo is certainly one of them so it seems appropriate that Caylee’s Sun was rising in this sign.
Virgo is another, and Caylee has Venus there.
The fact that both Sun / Ascendant and Venus have very close difficult aspects to Neptune and Pluto does seem to point to having this innocence suddenly, tragically and strangely taken away.
As a general rule transits don’t work very well for the death of such a young child because the slower moving planets that would be likely to cause the trouble have not had a chance to get going.
In Caylee’s case that’s not so as her death coincided with Neptune closing to an exact opposition with her Ascendant.
But the very odd thing about all this is that while Caylee’s chart shows such a close opposition between Neptune and the Sun in the sign of childhood, Casey’s shows the exactly the same with the Moon in the sign of motherhood.
Unfortunately we don’t have a birth time for Casey but the noon chart often works extremely well in such cases. Bizarrely this chart places her Moon in exactly the same place as Caylee’s Sun.
Casey’s Moon is in Cancer opposite Neptune. This is the key symbolism for her trial going global.
The Moon in Cancer is about motherhood, its close conjunction to the Ascendant shows it is also about how being a mother is perceived. Neptune’s opposition to both the Moon and Ascendant here, shows that the whole image of motherhood is under threat. It is being undermined.
Neptune is about the dissolution of all the things that we have taken for granted, it is the one planet that people fear the most because it represents the unknown and the loss of what we have worked so hard to acquire.
So this Moon and Ascendant in Cancer represents not only Casey as a mother but the whole notion of what mothers should be and Neptune’s threat to this is what got under the skin of so many people.
And just to fan the flames of this situation even more, Casey was a Sun Pisces, a sign that most people view as being rather strange. Pisceans, particularly those with the Sun near the end of the sign don’t seem to hold onto the same values and traditions as the rest of us.
She also had the Sun in very close square aspect to a Mars / Uranus conjunction. The vast majority of people who followed the trial wanted her found guilty of Caylee’s murder.
Was she guilty ? Who can say. Casey Anthony was quite clearly a bad mother and hers is certainly the chart of someone who could be accused of child neglect.
The whole story is riddled with Neptunian symbolism.
On July 15, 2008, Caylee was reported missing by her grandmother Cindy, who said she had not seen the girl for 31 days. She also reported that Casey’s car smelled like a dead body had been inside it. Cindy said Casey had given varied explanations as to Caylee’s whereabouts before finally telling her that she had not seen Caylee for weeks ( All Neptune ). Casey told detectives several falsehoods ( Neptune ) including that the child had been kidnapped by a nanny ( opposite Moon in Cancer ) on June 9, and that she had been trying to find her, too frightened ( more Moon opposite Neptune ) to alert the authorities. She was charged with first-degree murder in October 2008 and pleaded not guilty.
On December 11, 2008, Caylee’s skeletal remains were found with a blanket inside a trash bag in a secluded wooded area ( Neptune ) near the family home ( Moon in Cancer ). Investigative reports and trial testimony alternated between duct tape being found near the front of the skull and on the mouth of the skull. The medical examiner mentioned duct tape as one reason she ruled the death a homicide, but officially listed it as “death by undetermined means” ( Neptune ).
The trial lasted six weeks, from May to July 2011. The prosecution sought the death penalty and alleged Casey wished to free herself ( Neptune ) from parental responsibilities ( opposite Moon in Cancer ) and murdered her daughter by administering chloroform ( more Neptune ) and applying duct tape.
The defense team, led by Jose Baez, countered that the child had drowned accidentally ( Neptune ) in the family’s swimming pool ( Moon in Cancer opposite Neptune ) on June 16, 2008, and that George Anthony disposed of the body. The defense contended that Casey lied ( Neptune ) about this and other issues because of a dysfunctional upbringing ( Neptune opposite Moon in Cancer ) which they said included sexual abuse by her father.
The defense did not present evidence as to how Caylee died, nor evidence that Casey was sexually abused as a child, but challenged every piece of the prosecution’s evidence, calling much of it “fantasy forensics” ( Neptune ). Casey did not testify ( Neptune ).
On July 5, 2011, the jury found Casey not guilty of first degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated manslaughter of a child, but guilty of four misdemeanor counts of providing false information ( Neptune ) to a law enforcement officer. With credit for time served, she was released on July 17, 2011. A Florida appeals court overturned two of the misdemeanor convictions on January 25, 2013.
The not guilty murder verdict was greeted with public outrage, and was both attacked and defended by media and legal commentators. Some complained that the jury misunderstood ( Neptune ) the meaning of reasonable doubt, while others said the prosecution relied too heavily on the defendant’s allegedly poor moral character because they had been unable to show conclusively how the victim had died ( more Neptune ).
The whole thing was the Moon in Cancer opposite Neptune. But what planet would trigger all this by its transit. There can only be one, our old friend Pluto.
When Caylee died in 2008, Pluto was square to to Casey’s Sun.
The trial in 2011 saw Pluto conjunct her Neptune and the final convictions were overturned as Pluto was opposite her Moon.
Perhaps the reason she was found not guilty was because Uranus, the planet of freedom was conjunct her Sun during 2010 and 11.
Maybe as we move into the Age of Aquarius all trials will be conducted through social media. Perhaps astrologers will be asked for their input too. Whether this will help or hinder justice being done is another question.
