The Astrology Of Happy Valley

Astrocartography is a fascinating area of study.

The idea is to take the moment of your birth and look at different places on Earth where your personal planets were rising or culminating at that time.

This is used to advise clients on good places for them to go on holiday or even move to.

I am often asked to give this kind of advice but am not really convinced by this method.

I would prefer to look at the synastry between the client’s chart and the one for the city or country of the suggested destination to see how such a trip would work out.

Because places as well as people have their own charts and qualities.

If we were looking to come up with a zodiac sign that signified the county of Yorkshire, which would we choose ?

The countryside is breathtakingly beautiful but the generally recognised character of the people who live there is conservative, old fashioned, down to earth and not suffering fools gladly – or even anyone else come to that.

They call it Gods own country, but it’s full of grumpy old men who definitely don’t wish to share their own paradise with anyone else.

What other sign fits this better than Taurus ?

This last week has seen a powerful shared TV experience that has had us all on the edge of our seats. It’s set in the heart of Yorkshire.

Of course it all started almost 8 years ago with both the Sun and Moon in Taurus.

If ever an astrological placement was to show a valley, it would be a Taurus Moon. A Capricorn Moon might depict the austere hills but the dales would definitely be Taurus. It’s probably all those cows churning out Wensleydale cheese.

The Moon is exalted in Taurus and there is a sense that anyone possessing this placement would be happy with it but of course the title of this show is ironic.

This is more Valley of Torment.

The sheer amount of murder, mayhem, rape, drug taking and corruption per head of population in Hebden Bridge would even put Glasgow or Belfast to shame.

This of course is down to Saturn.

If the Moon in Taurus is paradise, Saturn in Scorpio is that other place.

And the opposition between these two across the Ascendant / Descendant axis sums it all up.

There is also the small matter one of the most intensely difficult astrological patterns I have ever seen – the Cardinal Grand Cross between Mars in Libra, Jupiter in Cancer, Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn.

I can remember this week distinctly. I read a study on the general stress levels of people based on observations of a particular group.

The Tuesday and Wednesday of this week produced levels that were off the scale and completely unexplainable ( unless you followed astrology that is ).

But until today, I had not realised that Happy Valley was first shown right in the middle of this Grand Cross.

The other really important point about this time of the first showing for Happy Valley was that it was just a matter of hours after a Solar Eclipse

So all in all its fair to say that this is one of the most stressful, violent and intense charts of the last decade.

The final episode of Happy Valley was shown last weekend with the transit Uranus conjunct this chart’s Moon and opposite its Ascendant.

The star of the show is without doubt

There is no birth time available for Sarah Lancashire but a noon chart works anyway.

I have often found that if an actor is so strongly associated with a particular role, their chart will identify that character as much ( and sometimes even more ) than their own,

The T square with Venus in Leo opposite Saturn focusing onto an apex Jupiter sums the role of Catherine Cawood very well.

The filming of Happy Valley was without doubt the major turning point in Sarah Lancashire’s acting life. This is evidenced by the fact that the Happy Valley Grand Cross hits her Sun with the Mars placement being in exact conjunction ( within half a degree ) at the time the show was first aired.

Also it seems very appropriate that Catherine retires with her Saturn Return back in the T Square.

Catherine’s nemesis Tommy Lee Royce is a soppy Cancer

A standard theme for crime dramas is that the police hierarchy are mostly dumb as dogshit and it takes a maverick cop going into desperately scary places with no back up to actually bring the baddies to justice.

So anyone looking for clues from Sun signs alone will just end up completely baffled whereas Capricorn Research has uncovered that it’s the aspects that reveal the true crims. See Murder Most Horrid for examples.

The exact conjunction between the Sun and Mars points to Tommy’s violent streak, the fact that its in Cancer just shows it all starts off as a domestic.

The equally close Leo Moon square Pluto in Scorpio indicates murderous intent.

The T square apex Saturn ( and South Node ), unlike Catherine’s apex Jupiter, says he will lose in the end.

As I have mentioned many times when a personal planet makes a major aspect to Pluto, this will not only create an intense theme for the person’s whole life but will also point to a time when that theme is played out with tremendous power.

Owing to its slow movement, its likely that there will only be one of them in their entire lifetime.

Tommy Lee Royce dies with transit Pluto fast approaching the opposition to James Norton’s Moon.

But while this will be the end of Tommy – I don’t think our nerves could stand another series – Pluto will often bring a resurrection somewhere else.

So don’t be surprised to see the full impact of this transit over the coming 2-3 years with James perhaps becoming the next Bond.

So potentially swapping the Sun / Moon Taurus of Hebden Bridge for Rio, Venice or Shanghai ?

If we take Norton’s noon chart and give it an astrocart makeover, Eastern Europe places his Sun, Mars and Moon in the 9th with Pluto exactly on the Ascendant.

So if Tommy’s next move is in the remake of From Russia With Love you heard it here first.
