The progressed Sun is on of the most important themes in Astrology.
And as it moves so slowly you only get one bite of each cherry.
The method of calculation ( one day for a year ) means it will move no more than 90 degrees in most people’s lifetime, so it therefore makes only one major aspect with each planet in your chart.
So if the Sun has a close major natal aspect to a planet, it won’t form another by progression until you’re either dead or too old to enjoy it.
Unless your name is J Howard Marshall.
With the Sun in exact square to a Scorpio Mars and the Moon and Venus in tight opposition with the Moon forming a T Square to Pluto we can see that he thinks of himself as a bit of a sex marshall.
I think it’s also fairly safe to say Howard likes to get his end away.
Despite already being a billionaire, he still achieved the world record for batting out of his league.
Despite a 62 year age difference, Howard met Playboy model, actress and TV personality Anna Nicole Smith in a strip club in 1991, had an affair and married her in 1994, only to die the following year at the age of 90.
The affair began with his progressed Sun trine Uranus and they married with it square to itself.
He died a happy man with his progressed Sun opposite that Scorpio Mars in the noon 6th house of health.
It’s pretty obvious what Marshall received from this unusual plan, but what about Smith ?
With an exact Moon / Venus conjunction on a Libra Ascendant, Anna Nicole’s charms are fairly obviously paraded for all to see.
Yet somehow the conjunction with the South Node and its exact square to a Capricorn Mars gives the impression that these charms are likely to get her into all kinds of trouble.
She has a 2nd house Sagittarian Sun so financial issues would be a central feature in her life.
Her Sun is exactly square to Jupiter in the 11th house and trine Saturn in the 6th.
These aspects are interesting because there seems to be a mix up indicating financial benefits through friendships but at the same time combined with loss impacting on her own health.
Sometimes there are important features in a natal chart that only fully make sense when they are opened up by progressions.
Secondary Progressions are about an inner unfolding of someone’s karma, their path in life.
The extremely strange quality of her relationship with Marshall was revealed by her progressed Sun being square to her Uranus when he discovered her performing in a strip club in 1991, interesting given that he was also having a Sun / Uranus progression at the same time.
But there was only one time in Smith’s life when her progressed Sun would make further aspects to her Jupiter and Saturn. That was between 1995 and 97 when Marshall died.
Her progressed Sun was trine her Jupiter and then directly square to her Saturn.
” Even though Smith was not in Marshall’s will, she claimed that in return for marriage, Marshall verbally promised her half of his estate, which primarily consisted of a 16% interest in Koch Industries, then worth $1.6 billion. “
Marshall’s son disputed the claim and in 1996 a series of court cases began which meant she received virtually nothing.
Obviously Smith and Marshall were not soulmates.
The one synastry connection between their charts is the exact sextile between her Sun and his and the linked sextile between her Jupiter and his Mars.
But these progressions at Howard’s end fixed right onto the synastry that they did have.
Howard’s progressed Sun was inconjunct Anna’s Sun and trine her Jupiter.
Anna’s progressed Sun was sextile Howard’s Mars.
A bizarre recurrence of this theme occurred a decade later when Anna’s progressed Venus reached exactly the same position.
This time she did marry her soulmate because her progressed Venus was conjunct her Sun.
But he was still called Howard.
Like Howard Senior, Stern had a T Square involving the Moon and Venus, this time with Mars instead of Pluto.
Their synastry was also much stronger with their Sagittarius Suns in close conjunction.
Anna’s Moon / Venus / Ascendant sat right in Howard junior’s T square being closely square to Stern’s own Venus and exactly opposite his Saturn.
Their true soulmate status was confirmed when Anna had progressed Venus conjunct her Sun when they got married, Howard junior had his progressed Sun conjunct his Venus.
With an apex Venus in Capricorn in the 12th house also square to Saturn there was bound to be some considerable suffering tied up with it.
In the same year, Anna had given birth to a daughter but her 20 year old son had tragically died.
The following year Anna Nicole Smith died of a cocktail of prescription drugs.
” Stern said that he and Smith had been in a relationship for “a very long time”, and claimed he was the father. Entertainment photographer Larry Birkhead claimed that he was the baby’s father and filed a lawsuit to establish paternity.
In April 2007, a Bahamian judge ruled that DNA tests had established Birkhead as the father of Smith’s daughter. Birkhead subsequently applied for an amended birth certificate listing him as the father, which paved the way for him to obtain a passport for the baby to leave with him for the U.S. Stern did not contest the DNA results or the ruling and Birkhead returned to the United States with the baby “
In 2007 both Anna and Howard Junior had progressions involving Saturn.
Her progressed Venus was trine her Saturn, his progressed Sun was square to his.
It is utterly bizarre that Anna Nicole Smith had two notorious marriages both to men called Howard and within a year one of both pairs had died.
Her progressed Sun and Venus would only make these aspects once in her lifetime, but they picked out both marriages.
There was a famous film starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson called Howard’s End.
The plot synopsis is ” A businessman thwarts his wife’s bequest of an estate to another woman. “
The film was released with the Sun at 7 Gemini, exactly opposite Anna Nicole Smith’s Sun.
Like Anna, the film release chart had a close square from the Sun to Jupiter at 5 Virgo.
There was also a Moon / Mars conjunction in mid Aries, right opposite Anna’s Moon / Venus one in Libra.
The film came out on 28th May 1992, right at the beginning of Anna Nicole Smith and J Howard Marshall’s affair.
There was a standing joke at the time – ” You’ll never believe what’s on Howard’s end “.
Progressed soulmate astrology makes the scarcely believable feel inevitable.
