Ex Men – Hugh And Debra Do The Moonwalk

Why do so many Hollywood stars have such tempestuous and presumably unhappy love lives ?

It’s probably because of the same planet that pushed them to fame in the first place.

As usual I’m not talking about sign or house placements, they will just express preferences. If you want to know how someone’s love life will really pan out, look at the aspects of Venus.

And the aspects that compel people to seek public adulation but at the same time to experience private suffering are the hard ones.

” Liz Taylor was first on screen as a child in the early 1940s then as a star of classical Hollywood cinema in the 1950s. She became the world’s highest paid movie star in the 1960s “

She also married 8 times, twice to the same bloke – Richard Burton And Elizabeth Taylor – Pure Synastry

It’s not hard to spot the culprit.

The tighter the aspect, the more powerful the drama. So Venus in Aries within 7 minutes of Uranus is going to bring a hell of a lot of it.

And the square to Pluto in the 7th ? Well astrology is cosmic science, not rocket science.

Liz was probably the most photographed woman in the world, right up until she wasn’t.

Princess Diana received more exposure during her short and tragic life than anyone and she was famously unhappy in marriage.

Again we have a very tight Venus / Uranus aspect ( the square with 1 degree orb ) but here Venus is at the apex of a powerful T Square.

But what of film stars with no hard aspects to Venus ? Will they be less in everyone’s faces but happier ?

Probably.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have just shocked the world by announcing that they have separated after being married for 27 years.

Unfortunately I don’t have birthtimes for either of them, so we have no idea what their 7th house themes are, but their only Venus aspects are identical favourable ones.

They both have Venus – Neptune, Hugh the conjunction, Deborra the sextile.

They both have Venus – Jupiter / Pluto aspects, Hugh the sextile, Deborra the trine.

They both have Gemini Moons in aspect to their Suns, Hugh the trine, Deborra the opposition.

And it is the progression of these Sun / Moon combinations that brought them together despite their 13 year age difference and exactly the same ones which separated them.

The Moon takes 27.3 days to complete its path through the Zodiac, which by progression equates to exactly the length of time Hugh and Deborra lived together as a married couple.

Which is also exactly half of Hugh’s life.

They married in April 1996 with Hugh Jackman’s Progressed Moon back at its natal position, conjunct itself and trine his Sun.

They announced their separation in September 2023 with his progressed Moon in exactly the same place.

Their marriage began with Deborra’s progressed Moon conjunct her Sun and ended with the same aspect.

That is extraordinary but it also poses the question why.

The answer can be found in the wedding chart.

The noon chart for their nuptials shows the key themes.

The Sun in Aries in the 10th conjunct Mars is a very fitting description of both Hugh’s acting career and the roles that he is most famous for playing.

The Moon in Capricorn in the 7th conjunct Jupiter describes the contented longevity of their married life.

However the Sun and Moon are in close square aspect, so there would certainly come a time when it would be difficult to keep these two very different combinations on the same page.

This would be when the Wedding chart progressed Moon returned to its natal place in square to the Sun.

Which naturally happened 27 years later.

While writing this piece, I followed a Facebook thread which asked the question why do people’s marriages not last the test of time like they did in our grandparents day.

Most of the responses came from people who believed the current trend was a bad thing and that we should be marrying for life.

But why do we hold that up as the gold standard and talk about those that don’t achieve it as failed ones?

The reason more marriages stayed together in those days were mostly material ones.

Larger families with the likelihood of the woman staying home to bring up the kids would have meant divorce would create serious financial hardship.

So many couples would have stayed together even in unhappy and unfulfilled relationships, perhaps suppressing their own needs and personal development, just for survival.

And maybe for many this so called golden age was more Alf Garnett than wedding garnet.

For a longevity combo you can’t get much more permanent than the Sun in Cancer in the 7th house , Moon in Taurus and Capricorn rising.

The quincunx between that Moon and the 8th house Libra Mars gives the show its title.

But that packed 7th house with the Uranus / Pluto conjunction opposite Saturn could hardly be described as a happy one, more of an endurance test.

And the opposition between the Capricorn Ascendant ( Warren Mitchell was a Sun / Moon Capricorn ) and the Cancer Sun provided most of the laughs.

So perhaps its ok ( like X Men Hugh and Deborra ) to just say it was great while it lasted and not make such rash lifelong promises in the first place.

Till our progressions do us part.

It may not sound so catchy but it’s perhaps more realistic.
