When And Y Did This All Begin?

If you’re reading this article, it’s a fairly safe bet that you are convinced that someone’s personality and major life themes can be understood by looking at the positions of the planets at the moment of their birth.

If you aren’t convinced of that, you obviously haven’t read enough of these articles.

But why should this astrological truth be so?

Why should one person come into this life with the kind of patterns that would make him kill all the members of his own family

Whereas someone else would be born to be a quantum physicist

A Universe that takes the trouble to arrange these things in a way that is so obviously predictable, is hardly going to be doing it as one big joke, a mere lottery of birth.

There must be a reason for it, some kind of purpose that is separate to but linked with these human lives.

And this must be significantly more complex than most of humanity’s commonly held religious beliefs.

The idea that good people will go to heaven and bad ones to hell is absurd if there is any truth in astrology.

Because what criterion for judging good and bad could possibly be used given the fact that people have such incredibly different charts?

Would Gerald McCra Jr be dispatched to hell for performing an act that his chart so clearly dictated that he would have to?

Or would the powers that be take that into account and let him into heaven because he made such an efficient job of carving up his parents?

Naive notions of an after life clearly do not cover the complexity of life on earth, whatever humans believe.

The only theory that can possibly sit alongside an understanding of astrology is that there must have been something that existed before this life that contributed to the symbolic patterns that people are destined to experience and work with during it.

The most logical conclusion from that is that each individual is somehow connected with something that determined what these patterns were to be.

The simplest expression of this must be that we have some kind of connection with other lives that have been previously lived.

An extension of this notion would be that if the patterns that we have in our birth charts are conditioned by or contributed to by these past lives, it should be possible to come to some kind of understanding of them through our current charts.

This is something that I have pondered for many years. Recently I have come up with a method that does that. It is called Secondary Regressions.

For an explanation of this method see Y Are We Here

This article looks at of one of my clients Y, who wanted to explore any possible past life relationships with her mother, in the hope that it might help explain some of her current challenging themes with her.

Looking at the the synastry between the two of them, it’s clear that their Mars’ at 10 and 17 Aries are likely to generate some kind of competition, even a battle between the two of them.

The fact that Y’s Mars is in the 8th house and her mother’s is in the 4th, seems to suggest that there is some past connection that has brought them together again to work through these Mars themes.

So to find out more about these themes and where they might have come from, I regressed Y’s Sun back to the point where it was conjunct her current chart Mars, which took her to the year 1825.

Using a method that combines secondary regressions, solar returns and horary, I was able to deduce that Y was an indigenous woman living near the Flint area of Michigan, and that she was due to marry a settler from New York State. This man was her current life husband.

The man’s mother was against the marriage and tried to put a stop to it by poisoning her. This backfired because her own son and brother died as a result of consuming the food only meant for her.

This lady, it turns out is Y’s mother in her current life.

On receiving this information, Y was shocked but not surprised because she felt that there must be something very powerful involved in her past life relationship with her mother and husband.

But also this past life review brought up as many questions as it answered.

If there were such powerful themes in this 19th century life, they too must have come from somewhere, with the assumption that there was carry over from another life before that one.

Looking at Y’s current life chart, she has a tight Saturn/Uranus conjunction in Sagittarius in her 4th house which is closely square to her mother’s Pisces Moon.

And it seemed logical that if we were looking for causes behind Y having that 4th house conjunction this time round, we should regress her Sun back to that point.

This would take us to the year 1722.

The year 1722 not only places her regressed Sun on her current life Saturn, and trine to her current Moon and Ascendant, but it also places her regressed Moon square to that Moon and Ascendant. So clearly it was a very important one in terms of the family themes that have such a powerful impact on her life today.

If we regress her mother’s chart back to the same date we should expect to see very powerful aspects to her own natal chart if she was also playing a role in that life.

When I look into regressions I am requiring such an aspect to occur within an orb of 1 degree to confirm whether someone was a participant in that previous life theme.

Regressing her mother’s chart back to the same date we get her Sun exactly conjunct her current life South Node and sextile her Moon. Her regressed Moon would be square to her Saturn. So she was there.

As well as her mother, Y wanted to know if her husband was also in this 18th century life.

A regression to the same date in 1722.

Y’s husband’s regressed Sun was exactly square his current Sun.

His Moon was conjunct his Jupiter, his Venus was trine his Sun and his Mars was square to his Nodes.

So it’s also clear that he was there too.

In order to understand the themes of a past life, particularly the roles of any other people involved in it, a great starting place is with a horary cast for the moment when the person requests one.

So I have now included an extraction from the review that I sent to Y about her past life in the early 18th century.

“Scorpio is rising which means you are signified by Pluto. In Aquarius means you were a man in this life. At the bottom of the chart conjunct the IC means you were probably a father.

Mars, the co-ruler of Scorpio is in Leo in the 10th house opposite Pluto.

This suggests a conflict between your parental role and your career drive. With Mars having separated from the opposition to Pluto, there is a possibility that you abandoned your family to follow your career.

The Moon is always important in a horary because it is the fastest mover and the chief indicator of events that are due to occur. In this chart it is in Scorpio in the 1st house opposite Uranus in the 7th. This indicates a separation from your wife (Uranus in Taurus would be female).

The Moon is applying to a close sextile with Venus, the ruler of the 7th house suggesting that you left her for another woman.

Venus is in Capricorn indicating that she would have been older and successful in business.

Venus is in the 3rd house but her own 9th (3rd from 7th) so maybe she was a foreigner.

To find out who your mother and husband were in this past life we simply look at the rulers of their respective houses.

The ruler of the 4th house is Uranus, placed in the 7th, so your mother was your wife in that life.

The 7th ruler is Venus, so your husband was the other woman.

Which explains a lot, not only in terms of the current life but also what happened in the 1800s one.

There are obviously themes between the three of you that require some more work to be resolved.

I am always looking for corroboration when it comes to past life readings, so a solar return for the same year should pick up the same themes.

With a T square Moon in the 4th house opposite Jupiter in the 10th focusing onto an apex Venus in the 7th, it certainly does.

For your mother/wife, the solar return for that year backs it up.

The 7th ruler (you), Mercury is in the 1st house (pursuing your own goals) conjunct Venus (with another woman) in Sagittarius (foreigner).

Venus being the ruler of the 5th from the 7th says extra marital affair.

Mercury and Venus in square to Pluto in the 10th suggests a big change in career for you.

Her Sun conjunct the South Node in the 2nd house points to financial difficulties for her but the Grand Trine suggests she would be ok and that she would be supported by her family (Moon as 8th ruler) and children (Mars as 5th ruler).

What about your husband/other woman’s Solar return for that year?

The Sun in the 4th square to Uranus in the 7th indicates a change in her relationship status upsetting her own family.

The Moon is the 5th house ruler, in Taurus in the 2nd house is exactly conjunct Neptune and opposite Jupiter in Scorpio in the 8th house.

This focuses by T square onto Mars in Leo in the 5th house.

So this also looks like a love affair that would have a deceptive quality with poor judgement and be a considerable drain on her family finances.

To try and get a sense of how old everyone was we would look at regressions to the 4thhouse ruler to determine when each of you were born in that life.

Your regressed Sun reaches your natal Pluto in 1677, which would have made you 44-45 years old at the time of these events.

For your mother the regressed Sun was conjunct her Mars in 1681, making her 40 years old.

For your husband, the Sun’s regression to sextile his 4th ruler, Mercury occurred in 1673, making the other woman 49 years old at the time.

So a birthchart for you based on this. I dowsed that this life occurred in Cordoba in Argentina. Like the later life, you were an indigenous person, in a country that had been claimed by a foreign power, Spain.

With the Sun at 27 Leo there are obviously very strong connections with your current life chart as it is exactly conjunct your current Moon and Ascendant.

There is a T square involving 5 planets.

The Sun and Mercury in the 7th opposite Neptune and Jupiter in the 1st shows the difficulty you would have had balancing your marriage with your own need for personal freedom.

The T square apex Moon in the 4th also shows the unsettling impact that this would have on your family and their security.

Transits to this chart show when the main events occurred.

You married some time between 1707 and 1710 with Pluto conjunct your Sun and square your Moon.

I believe this wasn’t your first marriage either as Pluto would have conjoined your Mercury between 1702 and 1704.

By 1716 you were having more affairs with Pluto conjunct your Venus.

In 1721 – 22 your progressed Sun would have been square your Pluto so you would have met this woman then.

Between 1721 – 23, transit Neptune was conjunct your Moon and square your Sun triggering the natal T square.

A birthchart for your mother/wife has stunning synastry with yours.

She also had a T square that involves her 7th and 4th houses and Neptune.

Venus in her 4th opposite Neptune T Square to an apex Mars in the 7th clearly shows problems keeping the affairs of all of these houses (family, career and marriage) all going together at the same time.

Her Venus was closely conjunct your Sun.

Her Mercury was exactly conjunct your Mars.

Her North Node is exactly conjunct your Venus.

In 1721 transit Pluto was square to her Moon.

I always find that any natal pattern that involves one of the outer planets will be very powerfully triggered when it makes another aspect to that pattern.

With Neptune, this would only happen once in a lifetime.

In 1722, Neptune was square to her Venus.

Your husband/other woman’s birthchart also has strong connections with his current life one.

She was actually Spanish although born in Argentina, and had travelled up from Buenos Aires.

He/She had a Grand Cross with the Sun in Capricorn in the 10th opposite a Cancer Moon in the 4th, square to Mars in Aries rising and opposite Jupiter in Libra.

So clearly this lady had a powerful drive and a lot of challenges in this life.

You can also see family upheaval and there would be a sense that her own family would resent her love life.

At the time of meeting and taking up with you Uranus was transiting her Grand Cross conjunct her 7th house Jupiter.

I believe that you lived until transit Saturn was conjunct your Moon and square your Sun in this life, which would be 1735 – 36.

This fits with your regressed Sun falling square to your current life 8th house Mars.

The regressed Moon is also sextile your current life Mars and quincunx your Pluto.

Your Solar Return for that year clearly depicts your death.

An exact opposition (10 minutes of arc) between Mars in Aries in the 8th house and Pluto together with a difficult T square, a Sun/Saturn square and a Scorpio Moon, shows the end of that life.

So you died at the age of 63.

My view on reincarnation is that we continue living through connections with particular souls in our group as long as there are still unresolved issues that have to perpetuate themselves.

I believe that we can see when these themes started by looking at the moment in our regressions when the Sun conjoined the planet(s) concerned.

The years 1722-23 seems to be that time when your regressed Sun was conjunct your Saturn and Uranus.

Your leaving your wife for the other woman would have left something unresolved between the three of you that continued into the life in Michigan in the 1800s.

How that life played out would have exacerbated the need for more resolution and so here you all are again today.”

It is always possible that the events of 1722 with Y leaving his wife for another woman were also conditioned by lives previous to that one and maybe we could trace it all back further, perhaps to the time when the regressed Sun made another conjunction with that Saturn/Uranus around the middle of the 14th century.

But I feel that this 1722 love triangle set up something that had a powerful karmic momentum which contributed to the poisoning in 1825.

The Michigan past life tragedy would have exacerbated this theme considerably and brought about an even stronger need for resolution in another life, so these people would be brought back together again in the hope that might happen and they could move on.

I believe it is possible that there was another life for Y born around 1850, and she may wish to look into that one at some point, but all of this has been very helpful for her in coming to understand the power behind the issues that she has to work with in her current life relationship with her mother and husband.

If we have a difficult relationship with a parent, how can we find resolution?

Everyone would come into this world with a natural expectation of receiving love and security from their mother. But what if that isn’t there?

What if our experience is one of neglect, abuse or aggression?

Astrology can show us these themes by simply looking at someone’s 4th house patterns and their synastry with their parent.

It’s my belief that an understanding of one’s own birthchart is an essential tool in helping us understand our relationships with our parents and in enabling us see why we have them and how we can use them consciously to improve our own lives and perhaps even forgive past behaviours.

We need to do this work because we don’t wish to continue carrying these themes and be controlled by them.

But even with a knowledge of astrology, it’s still hard to forgive past abuses if you were on the receiving end of them as a innocent child.

If we have access to past life astrological regression we can literally see where these themes came from and even in the case of Y, where they began.

If we can look back for a trigger point that was found in our own behaviour, it is easier to forgive the transgressions of others because we then can see them as an inevitable consequence of those past events.

Because fundamentally, what is the point of studying astrology?

It must surely be to come to some kind of understanding of the unconscious patterns that drive us all and shape our relationships with the people around us.

This understanding gives us the possibility of altering our predictable reactions to the stimuli that these people present to us and to free us to choose a more positive experience.

If we can really see where they come from, we can indeed resolve our karma.

So if you have a particular placement or pattern in your chart that gives you trouble in your relationships with family members, partners or work colleagues, why not request a past life review focusing on when that was first triggered?
