It has been the Australian version of the Vatican’s white smoke.

For the last 10 weeks, the nation has waited with bated breath outside a regional court in Victoria to find out whether Erin Patterson deliberately murdered her in-laws by putting death cap mushrooms in the Beef Wellington.

It would make things so much simpler and cheaper if the charges were read alongside the person’s birth data, then we would instantly know that she was guilty.

Astrology novices would object saying how could a Libran with a Pisces Moon blah, blah.

But an exact Sun/Pluto conjunction with Mars says murderer.

The Moon in Pisces opposite Venus in Virgo simply describes the method.

Of course we don’t know Erin’s birthtime, but I often find that a noon chart takes that into account.

“At the lunch were her estranged husband’s parents, Don and Gail Patterson, and his aunt and uncle, Heather and Ian Wilkinson.

At the meal, the five people present ate individually-portioned beef wellington parcels Patterson had modified from a Recipe Tin Eats recipe. 

During the trial, jurors were told by Patterson’s defence that it was not disputed that death caps were in the lunch, but the key question was whether she had deliberately poisoned her guests. 

The trial was told Erin invited her husband, Simon Patterson, to the lunch as well, however he pulled out the night before via text. 

Each of the guests fell critically ill after the lunch, with Don, Gail and Heather dying of multiple organ failure caused by death cap mushroom poisoning. 

Ian, the pastor of the Korumburra Baptist Church, recovered after spending about a month and a half in hospital.”

Erin’s beef would have been with Simon, who in the chart would obviously be Saturn, exactly on the Descendant. He exited stage right, no doubt suspecting it would be an uncomfortable afternoon.

The murdering focuses on the 10th house, which is the 4th from the 7th, so Erin’s in-laws.

The Sun, Pluto and Mars would be Don, Gail and Heather, with Ian being Uranus who late in the sign managed to make a narrow escape.

Pluto would be murder but in any case of poisoning we would have to expect Neptune to be involved.

And right on cue, transit Neptune was exactly opposite Erin Patterson’s Venus.

Not only that but all three were involved in a murderous Yod pattern at lunchtime on that fateful day.

Again we have three planets, Venus, Mercury and Mars in the house of in-laws all opposing Saturn in the sign of poisonous mushrooms in the house of someone’s kitchen.

An exact Sun/Saturn quincunx certainly helped.

Astrology would have found Erin guilty straight away, but that would have meant we would all have been deprived of the gory details of the trial, and the sales of Aussie popcorn would have taken a dip.

We would have missed “the fake cancer diagnosis used as pretence for the lunch, that a lethal dose of death caps were “secreted” in the meal, her faking the same illness as her guests, and a “sustained cover up” including dumping a dehydrator that was later found to contain death cap remnants and lying to police by claiming she had never foraged for mushrooms or owned a dehydrator. 

She also lied about feeding leftovers from the meal, with the mushrooms scraped off, to her children the night after the lunch as an effort to deflect suspicion. 

She maintained that she used fresh button mushrooms from Woolworths and added a packet of dried mushrooms purchased from an Asian grocer in Melbourne earlier that year.

But she also said that she may have added dehydrated wild mushrooms to the same Tupperware container she stored the purchased mushrooms in her pantry.

It was also claimed that the fact that Patterson had previously looked up death caps online had an innocent explanation – that a novice forager would want to see if the deadly mushroom grew in her area, so she could avoid them.

We would also have missed her account of binge eating cake and vomiting after the lunch as a possible explanation for why she did not get as sick as her guests. 

Erin admitted that she lied to police and tried to hide the dehydrator, explaining it as the actions of a woman who believed she would be wrongly blamed, but as her barrister claimed “She’s not on trial for being a liar.”

If she had been we would have also said guilty of telling whopping big ones on the basis of Mercury in Scorpio being trine Jupiter in Pisces in the noon chart 3rd.

The verdict was even read out with an exact Moon/Venus opposition also tightly aspecting Neptune and Saturn.

The opposition formed a T square with an apex Mars within 4 minutes of the murder Mars and in the same part of the 10th house.

This has been an extraordinary tale that has captured the attention of the Australian public, with the rather sinister aside that the sales of Beef Wellington has gone through the roof in the last few weeks.

Button mushrooms not so much.
