Astrologers – “Quick pass the ephemeris so we can work out why”
Capricorn Research – “Give me a few days while I try and squeeze every last symbolic drop out of this in search of a new angle”
Everyone – “We hope he’s not fallen off the wagon again”
Astrologers – “He has Pluto in his 7th house. So there is that”
Capricorn Research – “He’s had that for the last 11 years. Can we try and be a bit more specific?”
Yes we can.
Keith Urban has the Sun at 1.23 Scorpio.
This week Pluto stations at 1.23 Aquarius, exactly (to the minute) square to his Sun.
Astrology is an exact science.
Pluto being in his 7th house and his Sun being in the 4th, his marriage and family are wiped out, which for a Cancer Moon and rising would be something that would go against the grain.
This transit has been going on for a couple of years and this is the final stage.
What about Nicole?
Nicole Kidman’s Sun is at 29.00 Gemini.
We have just had a solar eclipse at 28.59 Virgo, exactly (an orb of one minute) square to her Sun.
Saturn and Neptune are also square to her Sun.
Is that it then?
Well no obviously because all that could have been covered in a Facebook post rather than an article.
Nicole and Keith’s synastry is actually very strong.
Her Sun is in close trine to his (orb 2.23 degrees) despite the fact that they are not both in signs of the same element.
Her Mercury is closely conjunct his Moon.
Her Ascendant is conjunct his Sun.
They have some tricky Mars aspects though.
Both have Mars/Saturn challenges, Nicole has the opposition, Keith has the square.
Nicole’s Mars is exactly square to Keith’s Moon.
Keith’s Mars is closely opposite Nicole’s Sun.
Nicole’s Moon is square to Keith’s Venus.
What about a composite chart?
A composite chart is a combination of planetary positions that don’t actually exist, they are simply the midpoints between each person’s placement.
The halfway point between Nicole’s Sun at 29 Gemini and Keith’s at 1 Scorpio is 0 Virgo etc.
With an exact Sun/Venus conjunction in the composite chart, this has to be a very favourable connection.
But even though these are not actual placements, the current transits to them are extremely challenging.
Uranus is square to that Sun/Venus.
Saturn and Neptune is opposite that Libra Moon and the eclipse fell less than 3 degrees from it.
What about the chart for Nicole and Keith’s wedding?
This wedding chart was obviously not elected astrologically, the Universe just chose it as a natural reflection of the couple.
Intriguing isn’t it that we have a coming together of the Moon at 29.17 Gemini (Nicole’s Sun 29.00 Gemini) and Sun at 3.37 Cancer (Keith’s Ascendant and Moon in Cancer).
Also that there’s a Mars/Saturn conjunction given that both of them have challenging aspects between the two.
The 6th house Moon’s opposition with a 12th house Pluto suggests there will be challenges beneath the surface around health, which does fit with the couple’s experience as only four months into their marriage, Keith Urban checked into a Betty Ford Center to receive treatment for substance abuse.
The transits to this chart are very similar to those to the composite chart.
The Solar Eclipse fell exactly square to the Moon as does the Saturn/Neptune conjunction.
Uranus has stationed exactly on that Venus (orb of 4 minutes).
Another really intriguing thing comes up with progressions.
The one planet in the 7th house of marriage is Mercury at 27.58 Cancer.
On the day of Nicole and Keith’s separation announcement the wedding chart progressed Mercury was retrograde. Back at 27.58 Cancer.
My last article The Instantaneous Acceleration Of X And Y explains that when we are looking at Secondary Progressions we need to see the birthchart in a different way.
“When we are looking at our transits we are basically seeing how the Universe is interacting with our chart, how the patterns of a moment impact on those of the one we were born on.
This requires us to conceive of our placements and patterns as they were when we were born, so that we can assess what the Universe requires of us by way of adjustment, hence the name transits, short for transitions.
The method of Progressions requires us to look at a birthchart in a completely different way.
With progressions, we are not looking at actual planetary movements, this method is a symbolic one calculated by using the two movements of the Earth round on itself in a day and round the Sun in a year.
The word progression implies something that isn’t static, that moves on its own, so we look at our birth moment as a point in time, with a future but also a past.
Conceived of in this way, we see ourselves as something that is progressing, and hopefully learning and developing through many different lives.”
So let’s have another look at Nicole’s chart from this perspective.
There is a simple reason why most astrologers do not really bother with progressions, and if they do the just mention the progressed Moon.
Most astrologers are focused on the placement and movement of planets in and through signs and houses
The Sun, by normal motion moves just under a degree per day (360 degrees in a year).
As progressions are based on the 1 day for 1 year principle, this would equate to just under 1 degree per year.
So the Sun would take approximately 30 years to move through a sign and the same time on average to move through a house.
There is a recognition that beyond a very loose general theme, this is quite limited. They might say Nicole has had her progressed Sun in her 10th house of career for about 20 years and this has coincided with a professional peak period in her life, but beyond that….
The Moon with a normal daily motion of around 13-14 degrees would zip through a sign or house by progression in just over 2 years, so this is why it gets more of a mention.
But progressions and slower moving planetary transits, expose this sign/house focused approach to astrology as being both naive and seriously limited.
As I have said before, astrology is an exact science and progressions insist on this.
Nicole is now 58 years old, so adding 58 degrees to her Sun would take it to 27 Leo. So it hasn’t even reached the end of her 10th house.
It would be another 20+ years before it makes the conjunction with Pluto.
We can clearly see though that it has made conjunctions with 3 planets, Mercury at 21 Cancer, Jupiter at 5 Leo and Venus at 14 Leo.
As I have said many times, progressions point to times in our life when important members of our soul group come into our lives.
So who are these three then?
Nicole’s Progressed Sun was conjunct her Mercury in 1990.
She met Tom Cruise on the set of Days of Thunder in 1990, they were married by Xmas.
There is no birthtime for Tom so he could have the Moon in Cancer as well as the Sun, which is interesting as Keith has the Moon and Ascendant in that sign.
Nicole’s progressed Sun was conjunct Jupiter in 2005 when she met Keith Urban, they married the following year.
Who was the 3rd one then?
Nicole’s progressed Sun was conjunct her Venus in 2014, peaking at the end of the year.
There is no evidence of an affair during that time, so who could this figure be?
Venus is her 7th house ruler so you would think this has to be a soulmate.
It is in her 10th house so it would be someone related to her career.
It is also closely trine her Moon in Sagittarius. The Moon is also the 9th house ruler, so there’s a suggestion that it would be someone from abroad.
Her progressed Sun would also have trined her Moon in 2014.
After pondering this for a while, I suddenly realised that there was only one character that could fit this description.
This is the noon chart for the release of the film Paddington.
With the Sun and Mercury in Sagittarius in the 9th house, travel from Peru to Paddington station would surely be a core theme.
The Moon opposite Jupiter forming a T square with an apex Saturn in the 9th, would nicely describe a deadly earthquake destroying his home in the Peruvian rainforest as well as being chased by an evil taxidermist.
Nicole Kidman was of course Millicent Clyde, that taxidermist, but the synastry suggests more.
Paddington’s Venus is exactly conjunct Nicole’s Moon and trine her own Venus, so it looks like she was after more than just his skin.
Looking at Nicole’s Solar progressions, there seems to be three bears.
The first one is to Mercury in Cancer so I guess that makes Tom Momma Bear, Keith Poppa Bear and Paddington Baby Bear.
If we look at Keith’s progressions, his marriage to Nicole in 2006 came when his Mars was in the 7th house in exact square to his Sun.
Keith’s progressed Venus would also have a say.
It formed a conjunction with his Sun in 2010-11 which coincided with the birth of their 2nd child, Faith Margaret, so there must be some serious soul connection there.
Since 2024 Keith’s progressed Venus has been sextile itself and conjunct his Mercury, so I expect there already has been another woman.
Little is known about Urban’s dating history before Nicole, so his Sun’s progressions to conjunct Mercury when he was 15 and Neptune when 22 could well have brought important people into his life.
After that the progressed Sun makes no conjunctions up to this point.
But over the next couple of years it will trine his Jupiter, sextile itself and conjunct his Mars.
Looks like Poppa Bear will be eating someone else’s porridge.
The day after I posted this article, it came to light that there had been more Urban Developments.
Poppa Bear had apparently been seen leaving the house of fellow band member Annie Baugh.
Goldidigs has transit Saturn conjunct her Pisces Sun which is shorthand for lying underneath someone who is more than twice your age, while copping a whole load of shit from his ex wife’s fanbase.
When asked to comment, Poppa Bear said that the porridge back home (Mars in Libra opposite Saturn) had gone cold while this new dish (Mars in Aries conjunct Jupiter) was hot and spicy.

Astrologers – “We said Pluto was in his 7th house”
Capricorn Research – “If we regress his chart back to 1752 we find he was her grandad in a previous life”
