Sixty years ago popular music was of the kids and by the kids.
Roger Daltrey sang ” I hope I die before I get old ”
There’s been 2 Saturn Returns since then and many of that generation are not only still alive and fast approaching their 3rd, they’re still even on stage.
Thing is, in order to have a career that lasts that long you won’t only have Saturn transits to deal with, you’ll have Uranus, Neptune and Pluto to deal with.
And whether you come out of them still on stage ….
The Who was based on a very particular synastry

Roger Daltrey was able to speak for his generation because he had the Moon in Gemini conjunct Uranus in the 7th house.
This was square to his Pisces Sun.

Pete Townshend’s Sun although in Taurus was still only two degrees from Daltry’s Moon.
His Moon in Virgo was square to Daltry’s.
This was also square to Uranus placed on his Midheaven.
So Uranus transits would be very important for the band.
So it proved as The Who broke up in 1983 when Townshend felt that he was no longer able to write for the band.
Uranus was square Townshend’s Moon and Daltry’s Sun in 1983.
But if Uranus split them up, Pluto brought them back together.
” In 1996, Pete Townshend was approached to produce Quadrophenia for the Prince’s Trust concert at Hyde Park, London. Daltrey agreed to help produce a one-off performance. Afterward, Townshend decided to take the production on tour in 1996–97 as the Who. “
In 1996 – 97 Pluto was opposite Daltry’s Moon and square Townshend’s.
In 2002 with Uranus square to Townshend’s Sun and Daltry’s Moon, bassist John Entwistle died of a heart attack induced by cocaine.
Although Roger Daltry claimed to speak for his generation there can be no doubt who the real gods were.
And they were connected by Pluto rather than Uranus.

John Lennon had Pluto as part of a powerful T square in the 5th house opposite his Aquarius Moon focusing on a 7th house Scorpio Mercury.
So he was the actual spokesman for his generation.

Paul McCartney has an 11th house Mars / Pluto conjunction exactly on Lennon’s Pluto and opposite his 11th house Moon

George Harrison has a T square with the same planets ( Moon, Mercury, Pluto ) as Lennon, falling around the same degrees of Fixed signs but this time with a Scorpio Moon as the apex planet.

Ringo Starr has all three of them as well as McCartney’s Mars / Pluto closely conjunct in Leo in the 5th house.
All four of the Beatles have these powerful placements in the 1st decanate of Fixed signs and the vast majority of them are contained in the first 5 degrees.
This is stunning Plutonic synastry. Its no wonder they were the Gods of my Pluto in Leo generation ( 1938 – 57 ). For more on this see The Beatles And The Pluto In Leo Generation.
Lennon famously said that the Beatles were ” more popular than Jesus “.
Which is rich because the one thing we do know about Jesus birthchart is that he was born under the Star of Bethlehem which was an exact conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Pisces. For more on this see Is This The Birthchart Of Jesus Christ ?
John Lennon had the exact Jupiter / Saturn conjunction at 13 Taurus in his 1st house.
The Beatles split in the early months of 1970 with Jupiter and Saturn forming an opposition in the early degrees of Scorpio and Taurus respectively hitting all of the above planets for all four of them.
John Lennon was born and died on a Jupiter / Saturn conjunction.
He was assassinated on December 8th 1980 with these two at 7 and 8 Libra exactly square to his Midheaven.
So not a great career move then.
Also it would help to recognise that in ancient astrology a Jupiter / Saturn conjunction meant the death of a king, so both John and Jesus managed to die long before they got old.

George Harrison died of lung cancer in November 2001, when Jupiter was exactly returning to its natal place and Saturn was within a few degrees of its own.
One important point to make is that two members of the Beatles survived into old age, two didn’t.
All four had powerful Plutonic synastry in the early degrees of Fixed signs as we’ve already seen.
The two that survived had the conjunctions only, the two that died had these planets forming T Squares, also involving Scorpio planets ( Mercury for John, Moon for George ).
Given that over the next 4 – 5 years, transit Pluto will oppose Paul’s Mars / Pluto and Ringo’s Moon / Mars / Mercury / Pluto, there’s a good chance we will lose the rest of the band soon.
Given that it was the two that had the conjunctions to Pluto in early Leo that are still going, it’s not surprising that this one’s still out there touring and looking for satisfaction.

I’ve heard many absurd claims made by astrologers but by some distance the most ridiculous one was made by a Western Siderealist who claimed that Mick Jagger was actually a Cancer because he loved cricket.
I’m not even going to dignify that bizarre claim with a response except to refer to my article written 7 years ago Sidereal Or Tropical, That Is The Question
When it comes to the ability to keep going, perhaps it’s related to their natal Pluto aspects.
Will Pluto be resurrection or actual death ?

Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones had Venus in Aquarius opposite Pluto.
He died in 1969 with transit Saturn creating a T Square to that Venus / Pluto.
Neptune was also opposite his Mars as Jones drowned in his own pool and the coroner related it to alcohol and drug problems.
Brian Jones was one of the 27 Club, celebrities who died at that age. This has often been related to the Progressed Moon Return which happens at that age.
Jones had this progression at its peak when he died on 3rd July 1969 and the Moon’s opposition to Mercury and involvement with the Venus / Pluto points to it.
Another musician who was particularly known for his capacity to reinvent himself is David Bowie.

Bowie had an extremely tight Moon / Pluto conjunction ( one third of a degree ).
As its unchallenged, Bowie would have a career that would go through many metamorphoses.
Until he died in 2016 with transit Pluto conjunct his Sun.
So why does an article with a title like this focus so much on 80 something musical dinosaurs ?
Because Pluto.

All of the above were the musical leaders for young people born with Pluto in Leo.
Beyonce’s Moon / Uranus conjunction means she plays the same role for the Pluto in Scorpio generation.
With a close Venus / Pluto conjunction right on top of a Libra Ascendant her appeal is positively Venusian.
With Mars conjunct the North Node in Leo in the 10th house, she is definitely the Queen of all she surveys.
But the next year or two will bring many challenges to her throne.
Pluto will oppose her Mars from the 4th house and Uranus will oppose her Moon from the 8th.
It looks like the coming challenges will be family ones, with the loss of one parent or close family member being quite possible.
Whatever it is, the natal strength of Pluto and Uranus will have a massive impact on her life and career.

Although born some 12 years before Beyonce, J Lo is another queen for the Pluto in Scorpio generation.
Both charts have many similar features.
Both have a last decanate Scorpio Moon conjunct one of the outer planets in the 2nd house.
Both have important planets within minutes of each other in Leo in the 10th house.
Both have Libra rising along with Jupiter in the same sign in the 12th house.
Both have their ruling Venus in Air signs in trine to each other within a degree.
Both have Mars in Fire signs also trine to each other within a couple of degrees.
Both have Mercury in close sextile to each other.
Both have Saturn in Venus signs.
As a natural consequence of the above they are both about to experience similar Pluto and Uranus transits.
Like Beyonce, J Lo will have transit Pluto in the 4th opposing her 10th house Sun.
And transit Uranus in the 8th opposing her Moon.
They could both be about to experience some kind of loss in their family which would have a massive impact on their career.
But they could also both expect major financial losses over the next couple of years.
We will have to wait and see if these two divas find other thrones to sit on.
All we can be sure of with Pluto transits like this is that even superglue won’t keep them on their current ones.
But with Pluto transits for musicians you can’t rule out them reinventing themselves and keeping their career going well into their dotage.
The Who are still touring, but don’t expect them to keep going forever as Uranus conjunct Townshend’s Sun and Daltry’s Moon between 2024 – 26 will probably mark the death of one of them.
They will only be 80 odd, so at least it happened before they got old.
