L Gets Her P’s

In Australia they have a system where when you pass your driving test and tear up your L plates, you receive other ones with a big red P on them. You have to display them on your car for 12 months and are not allowed to drive at over 90 kph, must have a zero blood/alcohol limit and in some states there are curfews for night time driving.

If you successfully navigate that period, you proceed to green P plates, which you have to show for a further 2 years, with the same restrictions although the maximum speed is increased to 100 kph.

Research showed that introducing this system had a positive impact on reducing road fatalities and injuries among young drivers.

It is without doubt a good system and should be introduced in other countries as well. And in other disciplines.

Astrology could certainly use it.

Young astrologers who have just passed whatever their local association says is required to claim that they are one, should be forced to display big red P’s until they come to some rudimentary understanding of Progressions.

And then move on to their green P’s until they have a decent grasp of progressions’ role in their client’s past lives.

Of course this could take a lot longer than the time required by the Australian driving licencing system.

I would estimate that I held my astrology red P’s for 5 years and my green ones for another 40, but that would be because I am the one who discovered the role that Progressions play in understanding our past lives.

Hopefully by systematically explaining how they work in a series of similar articles to this one, I will reduce this apprenticeship to the time it takes the progressed Moon to move through a sign rather than the time taken by the progressed Sun.

If there is such a thing as past lives, then any attempt to understand the astrology of this current one without reference to them, must have its own limitations.

Everyone reading this article will know in their bones that astrology conveys the real truth of human existence.

If you haven’t reached that stage yet, you simply haven’t read enough of the other articles on this site.

That truth shows us that every single person has a unique personality and life pattern.

If the Universe has taken the trouble to provide this specific karma for each of us, why do we assume that each one is apportioned purely by the lottery of chance?

We know that we are representatives of the moment of our birth but how were we chosen, what brought our souls to the point where the powers that be felt we were ripe for the character and destiny of that moment?

But much of what counts for past life commentary in astrology has been along the lines of “you have the North Node in Leo and the South Node in Aquarius so you must have been an Egyptian Pharaoh who lost his throne because his subjects rebelled”.

Seriously?

If we operate from the logical assumption that there must have been something before that has contributed to the major aspect patterns in this life, then any proper astrological analysis of a past life would expect to have strong references to them.

But how could we find these references?

If we used transits to our current life chart, this would not make sense, practically or philosophically.

When we are looking at our transits we are basically seeing how the Universe is interacting with our chart, how the patterns of a moment impact on those of the one we were born on.

This requires us to conceive of our placements and patterns as they were when we were born, so that we can assess what the Universe requires of us by way of adjustment, hence the name transits, short for transitions.

The method of Progressions requires us to look at a birthchart in a completely different way.

With progressions, we are not looking at actual planetary movements, this method is a symbolic one calculated by using the two movements of the Earth round on itself in a day and round the Sun in a year.

The word progression implies something that isn’t static, that moves on its own, so we look at our birth moment as a point in time, with a future but also a past.

Conceived of in this way, we see ourselves as something that is progressing, and hopefully learning and developing through many different lives.

Transits are current positions of the planets interacting with our own, progressions are our own placements moving and our life experience unfolding as we go.

Transits are “out there” impacting on “in here”.

Progressions are “in here” unfolding as we go through our lives and informing what happens to us “out there”.

This is precisely why we can use them in reverse to see what was happening to us in our past lives.

This simple difference of method is reflected by which planet’s movements we give most significance to.

With transits, it is the non personal planets Jupiter to Pluto that we consider have most impact, (the personal ones are too short lived and frequent to have a significant impact on our lives).

With progressions it is the personal planets, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars that count, the others move too slowly to have any real effect in a lifetime.

If we look at a chart like my client L we can see that certain periods in her life would have powerful progressions.

L’s chart has two powerful aspect patterns, a Water Grand Trine and a Cardinal Grand Cross.

She is 70 years old.

The most important progression by far is that of our Sun.

If we take the one day equals one year method, the progressed Sun would move slightly less than one degree per year, so if we add on 70 degrees to its natal position (24.46 Aries) we get to 4 Cancer.

A quick glance at L’s chart shows us that apart from Mars, all of her placements fall between 16 (Mercury) and 27 (Neptune).

So she has no progressed aspects for another 12 years, but after that every other placement in her chart apart from Pluto and the Ascendant will receive a major Sun progressed aspect between the age of 82 and 93.

But this was not L’s concern. She was asking for a review of her past life.

This requires us to do progressions backwards, a method that I have christened Regressions.

If we do look at her chart from this perspective we can see a point between 30 and 35 years before her birth (the early 1920s) which would see the regressed Sun in the Grand Trine, conjunct her Venus, trine Saturn, trine Jupiter and Uranus and sextile her Moon.

The main reason for looking into previous lives is to try and get some kind of extra understanding around our current life, so it made sense to look at the regressions to L’s Grand Cross as it was the more powerful pattern, particularly as it contained the very tight square between her Sun and Moon.

A Solar regression to the Grand Cross would cover the 1860s and include a conjunction with the Moon, opposition with Jupiter and Uranus, a square with Neptune and sextiles with Venus and Saturn.

To give an example of my Past Life Reviews, I will quote from the one I sent to L.

“If we want to see when your regressed Sun was conjunct your Moon it would have been about 90 years before your current life birth.

The earliest planet in your Grand Cross is Jupiter at 21.14 Cancer, the latest one is Neptune at 26.56 Libra. The time frame for the regressed Sun last being in that pattern was between 1861 and 1867.

With the Sun at 21.14 Capricorn it was exactly square to your current Jupiter at the very end of 1861.

You have asked if there has been a shared past life experience with your son T.

With a Cancer Sun and Pisces Moon, T is quite a different character to you.

You both have Pluto rising however, so you both have a life where change and transformation will be a strong theme.

You have strong synastry with T.

His Venus at 26 Cancer is in your Grand Cross, conjunct your Jupiter/Uranus, square to your Sun and opposite your Moon.

Given that his Venus is in the 8th house, the one most closely associated with past life connections, it seems very likely that you have a shared past.

His Moon is also widely conjunct your Venus.

Your Mars is exactly trine his Mars and opposite his Ascendant/Pluto conjunction.

To check whether T was with you back in the 1860s we would regress his chart back to the exact same date.

The regressed Sun is exactly to the minute conjunct his Jupiter.

This is an extraordinary hit, particularly since this moment in your own regressions has the Sun exactly opposite your Jupiter.

The odds against this occurring by chance are over 20,000/1 against.

It also means that the end of December 1861 is an extremely auspicious date in both of your past lives and probably is key in understanding why you have come together as mother and son in this life.

T’s regressed Venus is also conjunct his current Uranus.

I have a method for determining when someone was born in a previous life. It involves regressions to the 4th house ruler of the current chart.

Your 4th house ruler is Pluto.

If we apply this to your chart it gives us a date in August 1835, making you aged 26 when this event occurred.

T’s 4th house ruler is Neptune.

If we apply the same principle to his chart we get a past life birthdate in January 1840, making him aged 21 at the time.

What could this event have been?

To understand the themes in a past life we need to use horary astrology.

A horary cast for the moment a Past Life Review is requested is the most important chart as it will give us the major themes of these past lives, particularly in terms of their relevance to our current situation.

When you request a past life review, this is the astrological equivalent of going for past life regression hypnotism.

We are accessing the deeply subconscious part of your brain that knows what your past life experiences were.

A horary for that moment will reproduce these in astrological code. The chart will describe your past life experience.

Here is yours for this life review.

In a horary the Ascendant ruler signifies the person asking the question.

As Leo is rising, you are signified by the Sun. As it is in Virgo, this would mean you were female in that last life.

If we are looking for T, we use the 5th house ruler because the 5th rules children.

This would be Saturn. As it is in Aries he would be male in that life as well.

Saturn is in the 7th house, so T would have been your husband in your previous life.

Saturn however is retrograde so there could be some problems here as well.

Another feature that we can use to help understand the events of the time is a regressed Solar Return.

A Solar Return is a chart cast for the exact moment that your Sun returns to its natal position. Ordinarily this technique is applied to our current life, but we can regress it to help understand what was happening in a previous one.

Yours for the year 1861 has the Sun in the 7th house conjunct the Descendant.

Venus the chart ruler is also conjunct the Descendant and exactly trine Jupiter.

There is also a Moon/Uranus/Mars conjunction in the 8th house.

The Moon is sextile both Venus and Jupiter so this means it is helpful to you.

In T’s solar return for that year, there is a powerful 7th house emphasis here too, with 5 planets in there including Venus conjunct the Descendant.

So we can say without doubt that T was your husband in your last life and that you got married on 30th December 1861.

If we have another look at the horary we can see that there is another planet in the 7th house, Neptune.

This means that you were married twice.

As Pisces is intercepted in this chart and doesn’t fall on a house cusp, it seems likely that your other husband, signified by Neptune is not playing a role in your current life.

To investigate further it makes sense to have another look at your current life chart.

For December 1861 and your past life marriage to T, we are looking at the Sun’s regression to oppose your Jupiter.

We can see that Jupiter is at 21.14 Cancer and that it is also part of a Grand Trine involving Venus and Saturn.

Saturn is in the 4th house and Venus is in the 8th.

Your regressed Sun would have formed sextiles to both Venus and Saturn 2-3 years earlier.

It looks as if someone’s death during those years would have been helpful in enabling you to marry T.

With the 4th house connection, this could have been the death of a parent, maybe someone who opposed your relationship.

I believe looking into your regressed solar returns for this period would give us more information.

A solar return for 1857/8 again has a 7th house emphasis, suggesting a marriage but with a Mars/Pluto conjunction along with a Venus/Uranus one indicates that this one would be a difficult experience for you.

The Sun’s conjunction with Jupiter and its trine with a 2nd house Moon gives the impression of a financially favourable match but with the above, a personally unhappy one.

It is likely that this marriage was one that was arranged for you by your family.

From all of the above, we can surmise that this first husband died in 1861, allowing you to inherit his wealth and go on to marry again (to T).

If we come back to your natal chart, we can begin to look at the events that occurred after you and T were married.

After forming the opposition with Jupiter in December 1861, your regressed Sun went through the Grand Cross, reaching the conjunction with your Moon in April 1866.

Your regressed Moon is also in the Grand Cross pattern, conjunct Neptune.

If we regress T’s chart back to the same date.

The key factor here is that we have a Mars/Saturn opposition that falls 2nd/8th house and this is square to T’s current life 7th house Sun.

There is also the fact that the regressed Sun is quincunx his current life 8th house Venus.

His regressed Mercury is also exactly conjunct Uranus.

The regressed Sun is square to the regressed Moon and opposite the regressed Ascendant.

We have a clear theme around marriage and a shock, unexpected death.

To find out more about what was happening then we would have a look at your regressed solar return for that year.

The Sun is conjunct the South Node and opposite Saturn, so this would be a very difficult year for you.

Venus is the ruler of both the Ascendant and the 8th house.

Mercury is also conjunct Pluto in the same house.

All these features in a regressed solar return point to your death in a previous life.

There are patterns that involve the 9th house.

Jupiter is in Sagittarius in the 3rd and opposite Uranus in the 9th.

There is a T square between the Ascendant, Neptune in the 6th house and an apex Mars in the 9th.

This suggests that you died suddenly and unexpectedly whilst travelling, probably as a result of contracting a viral illness.

If we look at T’s regressed Solar Return for that year we should expect to see it as well.

Both the Sun and Moon are in the 7th house, showing that the main theme for the year is focused on marriage.

The Sun is conjunct Uranus which falls exactly on the Descendant, so some sort of shock is inevitable.

The Moon is square to Pluto, as is Mars in the 8th house.

Looking at solar returns for the couple of years after these, I believe you contracted a serious illness while travelling in 1865/66 which left you very weak and infirm, but that you actually died from it in 1867.

This narrative also fits with the regressions because it’s Neptune in your chart that is the 8th house ruler and your regressed Sun reached the square with Neptune in August 1867.

If we have another look at your Past Life Horary we can get a bit more information.

The Sun represents you and Saturn represents T.

Saturn is one of two planets in the 7th house, saying that he would be your husband, but it is retrograde so there are difficulties around this role for him.

The Sun is also separating from a quincunx aspect to Saturn, again suggesting that there is something that keeps you apart.

As I pointed out earlier, Saturn receives some supportive aspects from other planets, Venus by trine, Pluto and Uranus by sextile.

All three of these are in male signs, so there were three men in his life that helped him through this tragedy.

Venus is placed in the 12th house, which is the 6th relative to T.

Pluto is in the 6th house which is the 12th relative to T.

It’s likely that these were doctors or other health professionals who were supportive. However, they are opposite each other so they could have been rivals or competitors. I don’t feel we can find out who these people might be in your current life, particularly as you don’t have any siblings.

Uranus is in the 9th house which is the 3rd house relative to T, so would have been his brother in that life.

Uranus is ruler of the 7th house, so this brother would have been someone you were in a relationship in your current life.

Uranus is in early Gemini so it’s easy to see who this is.

M has strong synastry with you.

His Sun/Jupiter conjunction is in early Gemini, very close to your Mars.

He does have a very strong T Square involving a Mars/Uranus/Pluto conjunction in the 7th house opposite Saturn and square to an apex Venus in Gemini.

This is indicative of someone who would experience many changes in relationships and is not keen to settle down with one person.

Your Venus falls into this T Square and is conjunct his Saturn, so while there would be a powerful attraction and an exciting experience, it would be unlikely to last for a long time.

If we look at his regressions for the period in your last life when you got ill we can see his involvement.

His regressed Moon is joining in the T square, opposing Saturn and conjunct Uranus and Pluto.

M’s regressed Solar return for the year you got ill has very similar themes to T’s own one.

The Sun, Moon and Uranus all have 7th house connections and Mars is in the 8th house.

In this chart, Uranus being the 3rd house ruler and in the 7th is pointing to a shock involving his brother’s wife.

Looking at T’s current life chart, he would have also died young, at the age of 40.

This is indicated by the fact that his regressed Sun would be conjunct his current chart 8th house ruler, the Moon.

I have used dowsing to discover that you were born in Logrono in northern Spain.

This is your natal chart for that life.

You had the Sun, Mercury and Venus in the 7th house showing that marriage would be a major theme in your life.

They were opposite Uranus so there would have been challenges, changes and disruption in this area.

With the Moon, Mars and Saturn all in the 8th, death would be a theme as well.

The Moon is square to Neptune, Mars is in a T square opposite Pluto and square with Jupiter.

These all indicate unexpected and unusual themes around death.

In 1860, transit Saturn was conjunct your 7th house planets pointing to the death of your first husband.

In 1861, transit Jupiter was conjunct them, showing the marriage to T.

Between 1864 and 1867 transit Neptune was opposite and Uranus was square to your 8th house Mars, showing the illness and your death.”

L’s reply on receiving this review was

“The information that I very likely died of a viral illness back then in Spain does have a strong resonance to a very charged experience between myself and T in this life.

As you know, I am a homeopath and whilst T benefited greatly from this growing up , in that he never needed any drugs, from adolescence onwards he became very opposed and did not think that there was anything true about homoeopathy. He was a scientist !

During the pandemic T knew that I would not take vaccines however he took everything and that was kind of okay.

When travel restrictions for India were lifted, I wanted to go to India. There it was just at the end of the pandemic and some people were still dying although mostly now it was omicron as the main variant.

To reassure T I had told him that I would not go to India without a vaccine whilst the pandemic was going on. I truly didn’t think the issue would arise however when I planned to go to India, T was incredibly anxious about me going without a vaccine.

In the end I had a vaccine, not because I wanted to at all, but because I could not lie to him and pretend or oppose him and I really cared about his anxiety.

I was in a conflict between keeping my word to T and honouring the fact that I preferred not to have a vaccine and I chose to keep my word to T.

About one minute after having the vaccine, I reacted to the fatty coating and began to feel tingly all over my body with palpitations and I wondered if I would lose consciousness. I had to stay at the facility for an hour or so under observation. It was extremely scary and I knew that for my own body it was the wrong thing to have it. In the subsequent days I woke with palpitations at night and felt very out of alignment.

T thought it was all psychological but I know it wasn’t because as a homeopath for decades, I know my own body very well.  It did not like that alien substance. Although it was some years ago now, my nasal mucous membrane has changed from that time onwards and often feels swollen.

I learnt from that, that I should never do something just to please another, but the issue of T‘s anxiety about me dying of a viral illness whilst travelling was very intense and extreme, especially as by then it was mostly omicron so not so dangerous. Could this be a resonance of a past life in this life? The astrology does explain it all best”

This does certainly explain the strength of T’s anxiety around his mother travelling unvaccinated.

I checked and found that transit Pluto was conjunct L’s 6th house Moon and square to her 9th house Sun at the time.

Pluto was also opposing T’s 8th house Venus so his fears were understandable.

In fact given those transits were occurring, if L had traveled to India without having the vaccine, her fate might have been considerably worse.

It’s possible that this past life experience was what saved her from repeating her history from the 1860s.

So maybe L has past her test and is now on her green Ps.

This is the point of studying the astrology of our past lives. It can help us understand the themes that we are continuing to experience this time. The more we know, the easier it is to let go and free ourselves from these patterns.

With all the techniques that I have outlined above, you have everything you need to plot your own past lives.

But if you are on your L’s or even your red or green P’s, it’s a lot of work.

Much simpler to get Capricorn Research to chauffeur drive your past life for you.

Then you will know for sure that your astrology is no accident.
