Two P’s In A Pod? – Synastry In A Past Life

Astrology is the most useful and essential tool in terms of coming to a good understanding of yourself, your life and its themes.

But it’s even more important when it’s directed to other people.

How do we truly understand the needs, motivations and life themes of another person, particularly one we are in a personal relationship with?

Our view of them is naturally clouded by our own needs and requirements and many of our perceptions of them are simply projections.

Most people would acknowledge that others are different, but their capacity to conceive of how different is limited to generalisations of the “men are from Mars, women from Venus” sort.

Some are prepared to go as far as acknowledging a Sun sign difference, but anyone reading these articles will know that a true understanding of someone’s astrological themes is based on hundreds of connections of which the Sun’s sign is only one.

A clear understanding of the other person’s own birthchart is one of the greatest things that you can bring to any relationship.

Synastry, the comparison of charts of people in a relationship is one of the most valuable areas in astrology.

But many people’s grasp and use of this subject is limited to the “is this guy that I’m dating a good catch/the one and only/gonna cheat on me” level, hoping that the astrologer would give clear yes or no answers.

A more profound use of synastry is more of the “I am or I wish to be in a relationship with this person, what do I need to be aware of in order to make the best connection that I can and how do I understand and make allowances for the differences between us and our life themes?”.

It goes without saying that anyone we are in a serious relationship with will help us receive experiences that are indicated in our own charts.

This is shown up over and over again in the transits that we have to face alongside that other person during our relationship with them.

And the reason for them coming into our lives would be to help us with those themes.

To find out when these people come into our lives we use progressions – for more on this see Progressed Life Support

Progressions is the quantum method that connects this life with other ones we have lived before. When our secondary progressed planets trigger an aspect with our natal ones, we will meet an important member of our soul group.

Why is that?

Because we have had interactions with them before in previous lifetimes.

To find out more about this we can use a method that I have devised – Secondary Regressions

One example of how a connection between two people in this life links to a shared experience in a previous one is that of P.

P has a difficult relationship with her mother.

With the Sun and Moon conjunct the IC and Cancer rising, it goes without saying that home and family are the big themes in P’s life.

It is also worth noting that by Equal House, P’s Saturn/Pluto conjunction is in the 4th house.

We only have a noon chart for P’s Mum, but P believes that Aries rising fits her character so it seems to work well.

This is what I wrote in P’s Past Life Review

“P’s Mum’s opposition between a Sagittarius Sun and Uranus falls from the top of the chart to the bottom, so she very likely has issues about freedom and independence that trigger problems in her home and family life.

Whatever time of day she was born will give a Moon in the second half of Leo (conjunct P’s Sun and Moon).

Of course all of these placements are about to receive Uranus transits so it’s very timely to be looking into this synastry now.

I believe this is the place to go when looking into a previous life connection.

So I’m going to start by taking P’s chart back to a point where her regressed Sun was in late Aquarius.

At the end of 1796, P’s regressed Sun was opposite its own place and her regressed Moon was conjunct her Mars.

One way to confirm its significance and to get a feel for the themes of that time in her past life would be to do a regressed Solar Return for that year.

There are some really powerful challenges in this chart indicated by 3 oppositions.

The Sun and Mercury are opposite Pluto and the Moon.

Mars is opposite Saturn and Jupiter is opposite Uranus.

In fact the only planet not involved in these configurations is Venus.

If we looked at every solar return between now and 1796, I doubt if we’d find a more challenging one.

So what happened back then?

The 3rd/9th axis and the 6th/12th one suggests some kind of health issue contracted whilst travelling.

In a solar return chart, the Sun rather than the chart ruler is always the person.

So P is placed in the 3rd house.

The Moon is the chart ruler on the 9th cusp in opposition to the Sun. So the problem for P in this life is someone else’s travelling rather than her own.

Who is the Moon?

Given that we are looking at all this to try and get some kind of handle on P’s connection with her mother, the Moon must be signifying her.

So P’s mother has gone travelling.

As the Sun is opposite Pluto, this would have been traumatic for P.

So I’m guessing that this happened when she was quite young.

The Sun is conjunct Mercury in the 3rd house so I would imagine that P was left in the care of an older sister or her aunty.

The Mars/ Saturn opposition suggests that P’s anxiety around being left by her mother triggered a health issue that required her to be hospitalized.

The fact that Mars and Saturn are trine and sextile the Sun means that this illness would not be life threatening but it would have been a scary thing for a young child to go through without her mother around.

The Moon would have applied to an opposition with the Sun and a conjunction with Pluto.

So the sense is that the mother would have been forced to return from her journey.

My feeling is this could be part a significant theme that is being carried over into this life, some kind of resentment that her freedom to travel ( Moon in Aquarius in the 9th house) was curtailed by her daughter.”

Earlier in the review I had posted a horary timed for the moment P asked for a Past Life Review. I find this can give useful information.

“If we look back at the horary we can see that Mercury (P) would reach Saturn in just under 6 degrees.

Saturn is co ruler of the 6th house so it would be concerned with P’s health.

So I believe she was in her 6th year when this happened.

One degree later Mercury would form a sextile with Jupiter.

Jupiter is the ruler of the 4th house and so signifies her mother. So I believe just over a year after P fell ill, her mother was forced to return to look after her.

This theme is confirmed if we look at the horary from the perspective of P’s mother and turn it to start at the 4th cusp.

Jupiter is in her 5th house so she is having fun.

Mars is the significator of her daughter (8th house is 5th from 4th) from her perspective.

Mars is in Aquarius, she believed that P was independent enough to be left with her sister (6th house is the 3rd from 4th).

But this Mars is square to Jupiter, so this became a major problem.

In the 6th house along with Pluto, brought the health trauma for P.

Was P’s selfish and neglectful mother in this past life the same one as she has in the current one?

Of course she was.

Regressing P’s Mum’s chart back to 1796 we get the Sun/Moon opposition which certainly fits with the above experience.

The Sun is also in late Cancer in the 9th house opposite the Moon in the 4th, so that pull between her own travels and her family’s needs is played out strongly.

The Sun here is exactly quincunx her current one at 28 Sagittarius.

Her regressed Venus is also in the 9th in Gemini opposite Jupiter in Sagittarius, more indication that she was away having fun rather than staying at home being a Mum.

Her regressed Solar Return for that year is interesting.

The Sun is in the 7th conjunct Mercury so it sounds like there is another person with her. This might be P’s father, but it could easily be someone else.

Mercury is the ruler of the 5th house, Jupiter is the 7th. So it looks like the mother was off travelling with someone she was having an affair with.

The Moon is in the 5th house so is probably referring to her daughter.

The Moon is exactly opposite Jupiter so her father isn’t with P either, he is with Mars in Pisces in the 11th house,

Maybe he is staying with a friend or having an affair of his own.

The Moon is in Virgo conjunct Uranus so pointing to unexpected health issues for P.

The Sun and Mercury are opposite Saturn so this couple’s adventures are being frustrated. So whatever way we look at it, the themes seem to be the same”

P’s feedback when she received the review was interesting. She found it very helpful in explaining some of the themes that exist in her current relationship with her mother, a woman who has always put her own needs before those of her daughter.

She remembers being left with a family friend (a Piscean, which is interesting given the horary) at the age of 6, while her mother went away having fun.

It is extraordinary how closely these themes play out across lives.

I had another review where an 11 year old girl was abused by her stepfather and she and her mother had to run away from the family home for her safety.

The lady whose review it was later told me that she had been on the receiving end of abuse from her current life stepfather, particularly focusing around the age of 11.

When we regressed the stepfather’s chart back to that same moment in the previous life, it became clear he was the same person.

We probably all have experiences with certain people in our lives that if looked at from the perspective of this life alone, do not make sense.

Our synastry with these people is the only way to understand it.

But there still remains the question why have they come together with us at this time in our lives to hand us this experience?

Past Life astro regression can check if we had been with them before, and if a carry over from that experience is affecting our current relationship with them.
