The astrological view of existence is a macrocosmic one, the sense that the Universe operates as a large complex system viewed as a whole and that its laws also perform on a microcosmic scale in ourselves.

As individuals however we tend to see everything from our own perspective, whether such and such a development is good or bad for me personally.

By studying astrology we are attempting to step back from our focus on ourselves to consider the bigger picture, or at least we should be.

But so much of what is published in astrology is also placed within the narrow confines of good or bad.

Rather than seeing each planet/sign combination as different but equal shades, there is an obsession with planetary dignities. Dignity equals good, detriment bad.

With the planets Jupiter is good, Saturn is bad.

With aspects – trine is good, opposition bad.

The same goes for planetary motion. Forward good, retrograde bad.

So what about someone who has all four bad boys?

The First Lady of France, Brigitte Macron has Venus retrograde in Aries in opposition with Saturn.

My view is that we should always step back and try and see how the combination of planets is working in a particular case rather than come armed to the chart with preconceived textbook formed notions as to what they mean.

It is clear that Brigitte Macron’s chart has a very powerful opposition between the Sun, Moon and Venus in Aries in the 9th house and a Saturn/Neptune conjunction in the 3rd.

In many ways this is a natural fit with what we know of her life, in that she was a college teacher (3rd/9th house).

“Brigitte was in charge of the after-school theatre club that Emmanuel Macron attended when he was 15 years old alongside her own daughter Laurence who was in his class. Their relationship has attracted controversy, as she is his senior by close to 25 years, and he was a minor”.

The astrology/morality police would point to that Sun, Moon and retrograde Venus in Aries as some kind of cougar on the lookout for teenage boys, but it seems that this relationship was largely driven by Emmanuel Macron himself who described it as “a love often clandestine, often hidden, misunderstood by many before imposing itself”.

Most astrology books will suggest that Venus in aspect with Saturn will bring a seriousness to relationships indicating that the person with this aspect would look for a more mature partner and often date someone older than themselves.

But while age is obviously a factor here, it is the other way round.

Maybe this is a theme for political leaders as Donald Trump has a Venus/Saturn conjunction and is married to a Slovenian pole dancer 24 years younger than him.

My view is that we should not just see Venus as a portrayal of our likely relationship experience but also as an indicator of the timing of these developments.

Trump first met Melania in 1998, when his progressed Venus made a sextile to its natal position, it’s only aspect to itself in his life to date.

So perhaps when we look at Brigitte Macron’s Venus, we should bear that in mind.

Venus spends about 1/12th of its life in retrograde motion. The one thing that we do know is that it’s only a matter of time before it goes forward again.

If we look at a birthchart as something that unfolds over a life through progressions, Brigitte’s retrograde Venus will eventually come back to its natal place.

Between 1990 and 97, the period that corresponded with meeting Emmanuel and their relationship becoming a thing, her progressed Venus went through her Aries stellium.

Of course this is the only time in her life that her progressed Venus would make any aspects to these planets.

In this way we can see that this extraordinary pattern would be specifically triggered then.

What about Emmanuel then?

Planets in the 7th house will detail our experience through marriage and often indicate the type of partners we attract.

Emmanuel Macron has Mars and Saturn there, so he is married to an older, Mars type person.

We can see two very particular oppositions in Macron’s chart.

The Sun in Sagittarius in the 11th house opposite Jupiter is probably the thing that propelled him to the highest office in the land.

An exact Moon/Uranus opposition from the 3rd to 9th houses would also delineate an unusual educational experience.

An interesting feature of this is that both these oppositions point to planets in the 7th house.

Saturn in the 7th trine and sextile to the Sun and Jupiter would indicate that his marriage to Brigitte would be an important part of his political life.

The Moon and Uranus focus by T square onto an apex Mars in Leo the 7th, again suggesting that this is a powerful theme in his life.

So Macron would be married to his teacher, someone who is not averse to giving him a slap every so often, as we all saw when they were getting off that plane last week.

When Emmanuel met Brigitte in 1993, these two oppositions came together as his progressed Sun formed a trine with his Moon and sextile his Uranus.

This is the only aspect this Sun would make to these two until Brigitte was 100 years old.

Astrology textbooks are all about placements, but the subject itself is not, it is about patterns. And these combinations reveal themselves over time.

Brigitte Macron had to have Venus retrograde because it would progress back to its natal place when she fell in love with her teenage President.

Toddler President Donald Trump will have progressed Venus square his natal Venus next year, so perhaps Melania should watch out. Maybe he will bury her Ivanka style on his golf course and replace her with one of his many AI substitutes.

Given that the alternative is to stay married to him and carry on changing his nappies, Melania should just take the macro view that everything happens for the best.
