I have a special method of choosing which subjects to write articles about, it is simply to let the Universe guide me.
Often I will start out with one idea, and something else takes over entirely. Invariably the need for the new subject to be aired is far greater than the one I started with. I have got so used to this process that as soon as I see it in operation, I welcome it.
This piece began while I was trying to find an astrological cause for the current slump in the fortunes of football behemoth Manchester City, to see if it is indicative of something much larger.
I have a database of football club charts arranged by Zodiac Sun signs.
This is probably a stupid way of filing them because I use it so seldom that I forget which club falls in which sign. For some reason I had an idea that City was founded in Taurus season. It isn’t, the club has the Sun at 26.28 Aries, but I quickly realised why I had made the error.

What I was meant to see was the chart for their currently much quieter neighbours, Manchester United. It also seems cosmically fitting that Old Trafford is just under 7 kilometres from the City of Manchester stadium, since their Suns are just under 7 degrees apart in the Zodiac.

The United chart is just about to experience a major Pluto transit in square to its Sun.
What to expect from this transit?
City have just had the same one. In fact this transit has to be seen alongside the Uranus conjunct the club Sun that occurred in 2018, when under manager Pep Guardiola they won the Premier League and have maintained an almost total dominance of the competition since then.
So should we expect the same for United?
Probably not because this Uranus/Pluto transit combination was a club and manager double whammy.

Guardiola has had Pluto conjunct his Sun (and Uranus square it) for the same period.
If we add on the fact that he was born with a close natal Sun/Pluto trine, we can see that these last few years have marked the absolute peak of his career.
But United have just brought in a new manager. Could he bring this kind of Pluto level success to Old Trafford?
Well maybe.

Ruben Amorim has the Sun at 7.30 Aquarius in square aspect to Pluto, so will be receiving the transit by conjunction over the next few years.
Another interesting point is that his Pluto is exactly conjunct the club’s North Node, so perhaps we could be looking at a change in the balance of power in Manchester.
Not immediately obviously because Saturn will be conjunct the club Venus and Amorim’s Venus and Mars for much of the rest of the season.
The eclipse in March falls very close to these two planets, so we would have to expect things to get worse before they can get better, and it would be wise to write off this season and concentrate on a Pluto style clear out and a fresh start next year.
But it depends a lot on how patient the board are.

Since the club’s inception, United have had two Pluto/Sun transits.
The first, a square when the planet was in Leo occurred during the war years. There was a natural clear out then and the club responded by appointing Matt Busby as manager in 1945.
Busby had great success, winning the League in 1952 when Pluto was conjunct the club Moon.
He remained as manager for 23 years, taking them through the tragedy of the Munich air crash in 1958 when Neptune was opposite the club’s Sun to winning the European Cup a decade later when it was conjunct it’s Moon.
The second Pluto clearout occurred in 1984 – 85 when it was in Scorpio opposite the United Sun.
In 1986 Alex Ferguson was given the job.
In a bizarrely identical fashion, Fergie also took 7 years to win the League, in 1993 when transit Pluto was conjunct the club Moon.
So what are we saying then?
Is Ruben Amorim going to be the next Busby/Ferguson even if it takes him until 2037-38 season (when transit Pluto squares the United Moon) to do it?
Or will he be part of the clearout in a couple of years to bring in the next bloke? His contract runs until the 2026-27 season, which might not be quite long enough for his Pluto transit to get going.
If United do get rid of Amorim, you could guarantee that his next job would mark a massive turning point in his life.
Maybe if they needed a shorter term fix they should have gone for his mentor.

Intriguingly Jose Mourinho’s Sun is within a couple of degrees of fellow Portuguese Ruben Amorim’s own.
They both also have close Venus/Mars aspects, although Mourinho’s exact trine (1/4 degree) would certainly make him more of a special one with the ladies.
Of course United have already been there, done that and by winning a European trophy and finishing runner up to City, Jose came closer to filling the post Ferguson vacuum than any of the others.
Maybe it was a case of right man, wrong timing.
Mourinho is always box office, but it will be particularly interesting watching what happens when Pluto is conjunct his Sun. Obviously he could retire or move into international management which some people might say is the same thing.
Since his time at United, his methods have been shown to be out of step with current trends but perhaps they are more suited to the international game.
Portugal manager Roberto Martinez will has a natal Moon/Saturn opposition and transit Saturn squares both next year. If he has a poor start to the World Cup qualifying matches, his position could become vacant, just in time for the homecoming of the special one.
With Mourinho in charge with Pluto conjunct and Jupiter opposite his Sun, Portugal would be a decent bet to win in the US in 2026.
And what about City then? Is their current terrible form just a blip or the sign of the end of an era?
Probably both.
Without a timed chart we can’t be sure where the Moon is but this run of defeats has coincided with Saturn’s station around 12-13 Pisces, so if the club was formed sometime around mid afternoon, this would fall exactly opposite the Blue Moon.
In which case you would expect a slow but steady recovery as Saturn moves forward. But we also have the fact that Pluto has moved on.
With Uranus opposite Guardiola’s Mars, he might decide to as well.
All of which brings me back to where I started this piece from. And no, I won’t be changing my archaic filing system, it still works even if it sends me off on a few tangential pathways first.
As with most of these articles, an obsession with looking for past precedents might be exasperating for readers but Capricorn Research usually gets to the point in the end.
