Anyone For Denis ? From Dear John To Dear Bill

Forty years ago the English satirical magazine Private Eye had a column called Dear Bill, a collection of letters to the former editor of the Telegraph from the Prime Minister’s husband, revealing the writer to be a gin soaked, golf obsessed halfwit.

I would venture to suggest that Mercury in the last degree of Taurus in close aspect to Neptune covers that character fairly well.

Ordinarily planets in the 7th house and the sign on the cusp will describe the kind of marriage partner we look for. We only have a noon chart for Denis Thatcher, but I have often thought that the Universe compensates for this lack of knowledge by giving us important clues in the rest of the chart.

In that case we would look to Venus. In close conjunction with Mars in Aries backed up by the Moon in the same sign, Denis would naturally be drawn to Boadicea type warrior women.

We do have a birthtime for the Plutonium Lady, and her 7th house cusp is 15 Taurus, closely conjunct Denis’ Sun.

His Venus / Mars conjunction is opposite her Sun.

His Moon is opposite her Mars.

His Mercury is exactly square to her Moon.

Very powerful synastry, indicating that they would have to come together.

But was Margaret the love of Denis Thatcher’s life ?

An important thing to consider with progressions is that they move very slowly and will make few aspects during a lifetime.

Conjunctions are very rare.

Denis Thatcher lived to be 88. In that time his progressed Venus moved as far as the end of Cancer.

This meant that it would make conjunctions with Mars, the Sun, Mercury, Saturn, Pluto and finally Neptune.

We can discount the Mars one because it happened in the first two years of his life.

The Sun and Mercury are clearly the most important.

The all time classic soulmate connection is when the progressed Venus is conjunct the natal Sun, but this happened for Denis in 1942, 7 years before he even met this Margaret.

But there was another one, whom he married in 1942.

Like her namesake, Margaret Kempson had a T square apex Mars in Libra.

Her synastry with Denis was not as strong as the other one, but he was probably the one for her because her progressed Sun was conjunct her natal Venus in 1942 – 43.

” Although initially very happy, Thatcher and his first wife never lived together. Their married life became confined to snatched weekends and irregular leaves as Thatcher was often abroad during the war. When Thatcher returned to England after being demobilised in 1946, his wife told him she had met someone else and wanted a divorce. “

This was quite a common experience for soldiers returning from the war to find the wife or girlfriend had taken up with someone else in the meantime.

There was a name for the note that provided the news – a Dear John letter

” Thatcher was so traumatised by the event that he completely refused to talk about his first marriage or the separation, even to his daughter, as she states in her 1996 biography of him. Thatcher’s two children found out about his first marriage only in 1976, and only when the media revealed it “

Denis Thatcher’s progressed Venus was semi square to his Moon in 1946, when he got divorced from Margaret Kempson.

He married Margaret Thatcher in 1951 when his progressed Venus was conjunct his Mercury.

After Mercury in Denis Thatcher’s chart there’s a 31 degree gap to the Saturn / Pluto conjunction.

Denis’ Progressed Venus formed a conjunction with it in 1975 – 76 when his wife was elected Tory leader.

In 1979 when she became Prime Minister, his progressed Venus was semi square his Sun.

This is so astonishing. Denis Thatcher’s whole soulmate experience is ticked off by each of his progressed Venus conjunctions.

What about Margaret’s progressions ?

She met Denis in 1949 with her progressed Venus trine her Moon, but their marriage in 1951 was the most powerful progression of her life.

Her progressed Sun was conjunct her Ascendant and Saturn, sextile her Jupiter and trine her Pluto.

The totally staggering thing is that in 1979, when she was elected Prime Minister, her progressed Mars was in exactly the same place, conjunct her Ascendant, sextile her Jupiter and trine her Pluto.

One important point about this is that it’s only with the progressions of Mars that we can always clearly draw a distinction between the methods of secondary progressions and solar arcs.

By Solar Arc progression this monumental event would have not occurred in 1979 but in 1961 when nothing of significance happened in Margaret Thatcher’s life.

In 1979 there were no solar arcs of any note whatsoever.

Given that with Scorpio rising, Mars and Pluto are Thatcher’s joint rulers, it makes perfect sense for this life changing event to be signalled by the most powerful progression of Mars and the same transit for Pluto ( conjunct her Sun ). – For more on this see Margaret Thatcher – The Plutonian Lady

In fact if you don’t use secondary progressions or the transits of Pluto you would have completely missed the first ever election of a woman to lead a major world power.

But if you don’t use either of these things, you will be used to missing the most important events throughout history.

Besides the two Margarets was there anyone else in Denis Thatcher’s life ?

Well there was Dear Bill

Bill Deedes has Mars at 18 Aries, in the same degree as Denis Thatcher.

He also has the Moon conjunct Venus at 0 Taurus, Denis’ Sun sign.

In 1979, two weeks after the election, when those letters started in Private Eye, Dear Bill had his progressed Venus sextile that Moon / Venus.

Denis, John, Bill and the two Margarets, it’s all there in progressed soulmate synastry.

Even the demonic Margaret Thatcher had one.
