The most frustrating problem that astrologers face is the lack of accurate birth times.
In some countries these are available on the person’s birth certificate but in most cases not.
This is particularly a problem when it comes to the charts of nations, because we are not dealing with the birth of a country.
The land has always been there, but humans decide when these places change hands and charts have to be drawn for the new regime.
It’s often clear which day we are talking about but the time is in question and this discrepancy can make a big difference when we are looking at the timing of a country’s transits.
Often we can never know for sure until a really important event occurs.
For many years the US chart was considered to have Gemini rising.
There are a number of factors that make this chart quite appealing.
The Sun, Venus and Jupiter in the 2nd house of money for a start.
Uranus on the Ascendant makes sense for the first modern democracy.
A Grand Trine involving a 10th house Moon, Mars and Saturn perhaps reflects how this country has dominated the world.
But the one that most people recognise is the Sibly chart, timed for eye witness accounts of the signing of the Declaration of Independence about 15 hours later.
Sagittarius rising fits just as easily as Gemini might, but with the Sun, Venus and Jupiter in the 7th rather than the 2nd and Saturn in the 10th rather than the Moon and no Grand Trine, I was always sceptical of this one as the true chart for the USA.
Until the most shocking event that has occurred in the 250 years since then.
The bombing of the Twin Towers on September 11th 2001 happened with Pluto at 12.38 Sagittarius, exactly conjunct the Sibly Ascendant.
So that settled the argument for good.
The impact of 9/11 on US policy in the Middle East was enormous, but rather than focusing solely on Al Qaeda and the individuals presumed to be responsible for it, George Bush used the atrocity as an excuse to invade Iraq and Afghanistan and put blame on familiar target.
With the Sun at 13 Cancer in square to Saturn at 14 Libra, it’s hardly surprising that a country with the Sun at 11 Aries would be seen as a natural enemy.
But the synastry between the US and Iran could be even more challenging than that depending on which chart you use.
The date for the Iranian revolutionary take over is not in doubt, April 1st 1979, but there are disagreements about the time that should constitute the chart of the Islamic Republic
The Sun in Aries in the 9th house opposite Pluto does smack of religious authoritarianism.
The T square with Venus in Pisces opposite Saturn apex Moon in Gemini in the 10th may also be appropriate.
The other chart put forward is one for the start of that day.
Here the Sun is in the 4th opposite Pluto in the 10th.
Although the Moon is not involved there is a similar T square – Venus/Saturn with an apex Ascendant.
No doubt the argument about which chart fits will run and run, depending on how you see the Iranian regime.
My concern would be to do with the current situation in Iran, the protests against the government and their reaction, blaming and executing so called armed insurrectionists and the possibility of a US sponsored invasion or overthrow.
With Saturn approaching the Iranian Sun and stationing squaring the US one this year we could say that is highly plausible.
With Uranus heading for the Iran T Square we could see a counter revolution as a likely outcome, particularly as it coincides with the coming US Uranus Return.
The 3.00 pm chart for Iran with the Moon at 6 Gemini has powerful connections with the 2.00 am US chart with 7 Gemini rising.
However this chart doesn’t explain the current protests or the US bombing of the 3 nuclear sites last June.
The Sun/Jupiter conjunction in Cancer (with powerful echos of the same in the US chart) in tight square to a Saturn/Neptune conjunction in Aries (Iran’s Sun sign) is a symbolically potent picture of this attack, but I am also drawn to the position of Uranus.
At 29.15 Taurus, Uranus is right on the 12.01 Iranian chart Moon (28.33 Taurus) and closely square to the US (Sibly) Moon at 27.10 Aquarius.
As I write this Uranus is coming to a halt at 27.28 Taurus, which if we are using this chart for Iran, seems to be threatening more of the same.
Particularly for the next month or so.
Solar eclipses will often bring tensions between countries to a head, particularly if they have challenging aspects with a heavyweight slow mover like Uranus.
The square between the Sun and Moon at 28.49 Aquarius and Uranus at 27.32 Taurus sits right on the lunar square between the two countries.
Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are in the same places as they were for the June bombing last year.
Donald Trump wouldn’t be the first US President to use attacking a foreign country to distract people from problems back home, indeed George W Bush used the Iraq War to great effect in aiding his reelection in 2004.
And with Saturn and Neptune coming back into Aries with more Jeffrey Epstein related themes building, the need for such distraction is increasing by the day.
Will this topple the regime?
You could always make a case for someone’s 3rd Saturn Return as being a tricky transit to get past, but Iranian leader Ali Khameini has it conjunct his Sun and Moon, so you can’t see him still being in charge in 2028.
Particularly as the man put forward to save Iran from the Islamic dictatorship will have Pluto transits that year.
Reza Pahlavi is the eldest son of the former Shah of Iran who was toppled by the 1979 revolution.
Pahlavi is a dissident who has been living in exile in the US and is perceived by Trump as an acceptable leader for a post revolutionary Iran.
With his Mars on his Descendant conjunct the US Sun that would make sense. With that Mars opposite Saturn in the 1st he could be used as puppet ruler for Trump.
With Saturn and Neptune currently conjunct his Moon we can see why Pahlavi’s name is back in the news again.
With transit Saturn conjunct the Iran Sun and square to Pahlavi’s Mars/Saturn/Ascendant you could see a challenging year ahead for both.
Could Reza take over from Ali?
Reza Pahlavi has the Sun in Scorpio on the Midheaven in exact sextile with Pluto.
Transit Pluto will be square to his Sun in 2028, just as Saturn hits Ali Khameini’s Aries stellium.
It looks like Saturn and Pluto will have their say, whatever chart we use for Iran.
