It’s likely that everyone reading this will have noticed patterns in their own family’s charts.
It happens way more frequently than chance would have you suspect.
In fact we should expect them to occur because family members have a shared experience both material and emotional. These astrological themes can be harmonic or conflicting, uniting or separating, because all kinds of possible experience exists between families.
Some members might not share the features that most of the others do, and that will often be indicated by the life events and experience.
My mother and three sisters all have major placements in the latter degrees of Aquarius, one has the Sun and the other three have the Moons there.
This kind of thing is quite common, so much so that we absorb it automatically when we read things about astrology, but I often like to point out to my readers how profoundly powerful these things are.
The odds against this combination of placements occurring by chance is over 15,000 to 1 against.
The sisters have always been close and still have regular get togethers even now they are all in their 60s. They were also all very connected with my Mum.
I have no placements in Aquarius and the only planets that aspect these are Venus in Scorpio in square to them and a 7th house Pluto in Leo in opposition.
It is fair to say that my life and particularly my relationships have taken me away from my family and I was estranged from two of my sisters for many years.
One powerful reason for this kind of synastry is transits, all the people that share those patterns will find that they are triggered by events that occur at the same time.
An example of this was when my Mum died in her 90s with Saturn in late Aquarius conjunct her Moon. It was also conjoining each of my sisters’ lights.
I was on the other side of the world and absent for Mum’s illness and subsequent death, unable to return to the UK even for the funeral because of the Covid and Visa restrictions that applied at the time to me as someone applying for permanent residency in Australia.
We all have our family patterns because we have chosen to experience these themes playing out in our lives in a particular way.
Why have we chosen them and what are these choices based on?
Every choice we make in life, every single movement we make is all based on past experience.
Even something as simple as making a cup of coffee requires a complex trawl through the memory files in our brain. We have to remember where the cups are kept etc, but even the simple act of moving our hand towards them demands an enormous amount of brain memory access.
We have performed the act of lifting an arm millions of times in our lives, but every time we do it, the brain is still checking the files marked how to do it and is observing the act being performed by taking thousands of photos of the movement through our eyes and cross referencing them to what is in the files.
It does this all at lightning speed and obviously without our conscious participation, but it has to do it, otherwise we would miss the cup altogether and probably burn our hand on the stove.
So if even the tiniest of motor choices are made entirely based on past experience, it makes sense that the choice of a whole lifetime must also be made in that way.
Because otherwise why should a mother and three daughters all choose to have these placements within a few degrees of each other?
These choices have to come from a previous shared experience and a decision to project that forward into this life.
My work on the astrology of past lives has shown time and again where these patterns come from. I have many examples from the reviews I have done for clients.
These patterns are immediately identifiable by the Past Life Horary chart.
A Past Life Horary will give us the major themes of a past life, particularly in terms of their relevance to our current situation.
When someone requests a review, this is the astrological equivalent of them going for past life regression hypnotism.
We are accessing the deeply subconscious part of their brain that knows what their past life experiences were. A horary for that moment will reproduce these in astrological code. The chart will describe their past life experience.
A month ago a client T requested a past life review. Here is the horary chart.

It doesn’t require much knowledge of astrology to instantly spot where the major themes are in this chart.
The review was requested during a Full Moon in Cancer, so family themes are obviously going to be powerful.
The Moon is in the 8th house, which is the one most closely connected with reincarnation.
The Moon is conjunct Jupiter opposite a tight Sun/Venus/Mars conjunction in Capricorn in the 2nd house, so there would also be significant themes around business and money.
T wanted to see if there were connections with other family members in a past life.
She gave me a list of people to check. These were her only son D, his partner A, his father B, T’s own mother and father, her brother C, and sister G and a friend M, who was a mother figure to her.
It has to be said that T has quite a challenging chart, particularly around family experience.

She has two T squares, one involving the Moon opposite Venus and an apex Saturn.
The other including the Sun opposite Neptune and an apex 4th house Uranus.
Just focusing on those apex planets alone it is clear there are some challenging family themes (apex Uranus in 4th) coming from past lives (apex Saturn in 8th).
The Sun being opposite a 7th house Neptune also points to a conflicting dynamic existing between what T wants for herself and the experience that she has to have in her marriage.
As this focuses on the apex Uranus in the 4th, this relationship experience would also contribute to her shifting away from her family.
Although there is no Cancer/Capricorn opposition in T’s chart you can see a similar theme through her 10th house Mars opposite her 4th house Pluto, because we have someone whose own life themes and career have taken her far away from her roots.
But virtually everyone else in T’s family circle has a Cancer/Capricorn challenge.

Her only child D was born on a Cancer Full Moon.
It is worth remembering that the Sun/Venus/Mars conjunction in the Past Life Horary falls between 12-14 degrees of Capricorn, exactly conjunct D’s Sun.

D’s long term partner A was also born on a Full Moon (in Sagittarius) but she has an opposition of her own in mid Cancer/Capricorn between Jupiter and Neptune.

D’s father B has the Sun at 12 Cancer exactly (less than half a degree orb) opposite D’s own Sun.

T’s mother is a Sun/Moon Aries but she also has a mid Cancer/Capricorn opposition between Pluto and Jupiter.

This axis is repeated in T’s father’s chart with the Moon at 10 Capricorn exactly opposite Pluto in Cancer.
Although we don’t have timed charts for T’s parents, it’s interesting that these oppositions both fall in the noon chart 1st and 7th houses.

T’s older half brother C has no planets in either sign but does have a Mercury/Mars conjunction in Aries opposite Neptune which would be in square aspect to these Cancer/Capricorn placements.
It’s also interesting that the noon chart gives him mid Cancer rising.

T’s sister G has a Cancer/Capricorn opposition between Mars and the Moon.
She also has Venus in mid Cancer.

T’s friend and mother figure M also has an opposition in mid Cancer/Capricorn between Jupiter and Mars.
What are the chances that of the 8 people that T gave me birthdata for, 7 of them have major Cancer placements, 6 of them containing Cancer/Capricorn oppositions and 5 of them occurring in the middle of the signs?
I could make that calculation but it would take me longer to do than a past life review itself, but suffice to say we are probably talking millions to one against.
So this is not a coincidence, neither is where it all came from.
I will pick excerpts from T’s past life review because it gives us a great understanding of the type of past life experience that contributes to these family themes.
“We start with your birthchart and particularly the aspect patterns in it.

You have two T squares, one involving the Sun, Neptune and an apex Uranus, the other involving the Moon, Venus and an apex Saturn.
This gives us a lot of options but the one that draws me is the first one.
By regression the Sun moves backwards through our chart at approximately one degree per year.
So we would be looking into the regressed Sun passing through your T square which takes us back to the 1770s.

I
n February 1773, your regressed Sun and Ascendant are exactly conjunct your current chart Neptune.
The regressed Mercury is in the T square as well.
The regressed Moon is exactly square to your current Moon.
The regressed Venus is also in the 2nd T square.
The regressed Mars is opposite your current Mercury.
This is a powerful combination, so must be pointing to a very important event in your past life history.
Over the following 6 years the regressed Sun moves through the T square so the remainder of that decade will be prominent.
I have a method of identifying someone’s birthdate in a past life which involves the regressed Sun forming an aspect with their 4th house ruler.
If we apply this to you, the regressed Sun would be conjunct your Moon (4th ruler) in 1731, making you in your 40s when these events occurred.
Using dowsing I have found that you were born in Paris in France. The events occurred during the period just before the French Revolution.
This is the Past Life Horary chart.

In any horary, the chart ruler signifies the person asking the question so in a past life review it will describe you in that life.
With Sagittarius rising, Jupiter signifies you.
Jupiter is in Cancer, so you were female in that life as well.
Jupiter is conjunct the Moon so you were probably a mother.
With the Moon dignified and Jupiter exalted in Cancer, my feeling is that you came from a well off family.
With both of these in the 8th house, I would imagine your family was involved in banking.
But Jupiter forms oppositions to several planets in the 2nd house, so finances appears to be a challenging theme as well.
There are two 5th house planets, Saturn and Neptune which probably refer to two daughters of yours.
Saturn and particularly Neptune are in square to Mercury.
Mercury is the 7th house ruler, so would be your husband in that life.
There is a sense that your husband would not be financially supporting your daughters.
More information can be found by looking at your regressed solar returns for those years.
The return for February 1773 does seem to point to a change in your family circumstances.

Here we have a T square, with Jupiter in the 10th house opposite Saturn in the 4th which focuses on an apex Mercury in the 2nd.
This seems to be pointing to an unfortunate event involving your home or family which forced you to go out to work. It looks like this was the fall or bankruptcy of your family’s business.
The 1770s in France was a period of major financial instability with fiscal crises caused by “widespread crop failures, rising food prices, and government debt from wars” in the run up to the French Revolution.
It seems that the volatility in the stock market was the cause of your family business going bankrupt.
Your parents would have been aging fast at this point and badly hit by the financial troubles, so taking care of them becomes solely your responsibility.
A later return for 1778 seems to fit into the pattern described by the horary.

With the Sun, Venus and Mars in the 7th house all opposite Saturn, this looks like the end of your marriage.
Mars as 7th ruler would indicate your husband.
Mars conjunct Venus shows that he was with another woman.
The Mars/Saturn opposition focuses by T square onto an apex Jupiter in the 11th house.
The 11th is the 5th from the 7th, so he would have had a son with this woman.
The Moon in Gemini in the 8th house conjunct Uranus is pertinent here.
Uranus is ruler of the 5th house, so as a result of all this your husband stopped financially supporting you and your daughters and cut them out of his will.
Over the course of 6 years you went from being a stay at home well off wife and mother, to losing your family business and then your husband as well, so being forced to find employment for yourself to look after your family.
I believe you struggled on in greatly reduced circumstances to survive the revolution and died in your late 60s towards the end of the century.
There is a method of working out who these people are in your current life based on the Past Life Horary chart.

This involves looking at the house rulership of the planet concerned and/or the sign position to see if it resonates with any major placement in one of your current life family’s charts.
Let’s try and identify some of these people.
Neptune as your daughter in that life is the ruler of the 5th house of children so most likely would be indicating D.

Looking at D’s current life chart he has the Sun at 12 Capricorn, right on the Sun and Venus in the horary, so it seems from this that he must have been involved in the banking crash that caused such financial hardship for your family back then.
The Sun opposite the Moon in Cancer, strongly reflects the opposition between these two in the horary.
This also suggests that these events back in the 18th century are still acting as important drivers for his life and work now.
Maybe this is a thing that has contributed to him being self employed, working as a freelancer, so that he is not dependent on an employer.
To check whether he was there, let’s regress his chart back to February 1773.

His regressed Mars is exactly conjunct his current life Moon.
His regressed Moon is exactly trine his current Jupiter.
His regressed Venus is exactly trine his current Mercury.
His regressed Ascendant is exactly opposite his current Ascendant.
All of these confirm that D was your daughter in that past life and also that his experience of those times were very significant ones in his own past life history.
Your other daughter, signified by Saturn is the ruler of the 3rd house of siblings so is either C or G.
Saturn in the horary is at 26 Pisces, so that tells us straight away which one she is in this life.

C’s Venus is at 26 Pisces, G has no planets in Pisces, so it must be him.
We don’t have a birthtime for C, so it’s difficult to make strong past life connections with his Moon and impossible with his Ascendant.

C’s regressed Venus for February 1773 is exactly conjunct his current chart South Node.
His regressed Moon could well be forming a Tsquare with his current Mars/Mercury in Aries opposite Neptune. If he was born later in the day, this feature would be exact.
One feature that is a powerful one in C’s current life chart is his Sun’s square to Saturn.
This generally indicates that there is something missing in the father principle in his life.
The past life regression has exactly the same aspect, suggesting the same theme and we know from the review that your daughter/C’s father left her without financial support, so we can say we have enough evidence to see C as your other daughter.
Generally people who have Capricorn strong and/or a Sun/Saturn theme have something lacking in the father area because they are meant to forge a strong sense of self reliance in their lives and lack of support whether material or emotional from a father figure will often act as a powerful driver to push them to do that.
This would apply to both D and C in this life.
There is a sense that this 18th century experience is where this theme started for both of them and it has continued to some degree in this life.
What about your husband that left you and your daughters?
Mercury in the horary is the 7th house ruler so is likely to have been a husband or partner in this life.
So maybe we are talking about B.

I am convinced he was involved in that life because his Sun at 12 Cancer is exactly opposite the horary Sun and Venus.
Maybe if we regress his chart back to February 1773 that will give us a clue.

B’s regressed Sun is exactly square to his current life Mars.
His regressed Moon is closely opposite his current Uranus.
His regressed Venus is closely trine his current Mercury/Venus conjunction.
His regressed Mars is closely conjunct his current Moon, which would be tighter if B was born in the morning.
All these features confirm he was playing a role in that past life but it is the regressed Sun that tells us which one.

A quick look at the horary shows that Mercury (your husband) is 2 Capricorn.
B’s regressed Sun is 2 Capricorn, so that is confirmation that your ex husband and D’s father this time round was playing the same role back in the 18th century.
The only other player that is clearly shown in the horary is the Moon, which I take to represent your father whose business went down the pan.
As ruler of the 8th and 9th houses, the Moon isn’t giving us any help at all.
But if we look at its sign position there is one clear candidate.

Your sister G has Venus at 17 Cancer.
Again we don’t have a birthtime but she has quite a challenging chart including a Mars in Cancer/Moon in Capricorn opposition, that reflects the horary themes.
Let’s have a look at a regression for G

The regressed Sun is exactly sextile her current chart Moon.
The regressed Venus is exactly square to her current Pluto.
The Sun/Mars opposition in this chart falls right on the Mercury/Jupiter opposition in your current chart.
So from all of this we can safely say that G was your father in that past life.
Taking another look at the horary.

There are three planets in the 2nd house, Venus, the Sun and Mars, that might be referring to other people who were impacted by the family bankruptcy.
They could be family members but there’s no clear indication of who they were.
But could we find them in terms of your current life group?
Mars is likely to be M.

This is simply because she has Mars at 14 Capricorn, the same degree as the horary.
She also has the Mars/Jupiter opposition that is in the horary chart, so it seems not only certain that she was there, but also that the experience from that past life is still impacting on her this time round.
If we regress her chart back to 1773.

The regressed Sun is exactly square to her current chart Saturn.
The regressed Moon is exactly square to her current Jupiter.
The regressed Venus is exactly quincunx her current Mars.
The regressed Mars is closely sextile her current Jupiter.
The regressed Ascendant is exactly sextile her current Mercury.
So this is confirmation for sure.

A also has a tight Cancer/Capricorn opposition around these degrees, between Jupiter and Neptune.
So let’s regress her back to that date and see if she was with you.

A’s regressed Sun is exactly opposite her current chart Venus.
Her regressed Mercury is exactly quincunx her current Mars.
Her regressed Jupiter is exactly sextile her current Venus.
So she was definitely one of the three people who were impacted by the bankruptcy.

Your Mum could be another because she has Pluto in mid Cancer opposite Jupiter in Capricorn.

Your mother’s regressed Sun is exactly quincunx her current Mars.
Her regressed Mars is exactly square her current Mars.
Her regressed Ascendant is exactly sextile her current Moon.
The regressed chart contains a tight T square from Venus in the 8th house to Uranus in the 2nd with an apex Jupiter.
All these things suggest your mother was there and that the experience is still a significant part of her current life.
I originally thought that your father was another one.

He has the Moon in Capricorn exactly opposite Pluto in a T square that focuses on an apex Sun.
So this would suggest another person who was seriously burned by the 18th century experience who was still working with the themes in this last life.
If we regress him to 1773.

There are no clear indications that could tell us that he was with you back then.
But since we have the three planets in the horary 2nd house covered by M, A and your mother, that makes sense.
Despite his not being in Paris in the 18th century, your father’s chart shows that he was still impacted by that experience, maybe through his marriage to your mother and his being father to you and G.
So we have a way of connecting almost everyone in your family to this Parisian experience.
This was your birthchart for that past life.

The stellium in Cancer in the 8th house indicates the family business in banking.
The Sun’s opposition to the Moon in Capricorn in the 2nd shows the financial upheaval.
Saturn in the 4th points to family difficulties.
Uranus rising and Pluto in the 10th square to Mercury and Mars in the 8th shows the sudden fall from a position of wealth to when of austerity.
Transit Uranus was opposite your Ascendant (and itself) in 1773.
Transit Pluto was opposite your Sun in 1775 – 6 and conjunct your Moon in 1777 – 8 when your husband left you.
These years would have been your past life’s turning point.
You died in 1799 at the age of 68 with transit Saturn conjunct your Sun and opposite your Moon.
This has been a fascinating past life review and it is interesting to see the family connections, not least having so many with mid Cancer/Capricorn opposition aspects.”
Every family will have their own themes.
Some, with Cancer/Capricorn ones might have ongoing issues around family inheritance, others will be different but clearly identified by their own charts and synastry.
But if we try to frame these themes in terms of our current life only, we are seriously hampering our chance of truly understanding them.
For D born on a Cancer Full Moon and C with a tight Sun/Saturn square, it might be easy to ask the question why have I had this life experience?
It would be understandable if they were carrying unresolved resentment over their fathers’ relationship with them but it was the same feeling left over from their life in 1770s Paris that meant that they had to come together with similar patterns this time round.
It is this sense of things being unresolved that perpetuates family themes both in this life and through others.
And this is ultimately the point of having a past life review because the knowledge gained helps us to reconcile any problematic issues we may have with other family members because if we can’t do that we will have to come back again with these people and make another attempt to do so.
We may want to have ongoing family business, but at least having a past life review gives us the choice.
We not try a Past Life Review for your own ongoing family
