One of the many criticisms that sceptics have of astrology is why do its followers believe that everything is all about them, a tiny insignificant collection of atoms in a vast unknowable Universe?
This criticism may have certain validity when you look at astrotwitter, but for those of us that are serious about the subject, it is completely the opposite.
The whole point of studying astrology is to help us to let go of our tiny egocentric selves and to allow the cosmos to have its way with us.
Of course this will happen anyway, but whether we go willingly or kicking and screaming will be entirely dependent on our understanding of whatever this happens to be at any given moment.
And it doesn’t matter what religious beliefs one has, there is no better method to understand that than the one that is painted vividly in the skies above and below us every moment.
Some people have a stronger understanding of this than others, maybe because they have been working with it for many lifetimes.
Of all the people alive on the planet right now, one simple monk seems to have a greater grasp of this state of affairs than any other.

His Holiness The Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of the Tibetan Buddhists, has one of the most beautiful natal charts I’ve ever seen.
A Water Grand Trine between a Cancer Sun and Ascendant, Jupiter and Saturn forms a Kite with a Moon/Neptune conjunction in Virgo, indicating a highly evolved soul whose whole existence is devoted to compassion, service and giving spiritual nourishment to his people.
All of these placements operate within a 3 degree range, a simple astrological fact that elevates his life themes onto a global level.
It goes without saying that the biggest challenge to the Dalai Lama in this life comes from his Moon in the 3rd house opposite Saturn in the 9th.
This shows that his homeland and his people (Moon) has been taken over by a controlling foreign power (Saturn in the 9th) and he is forced to take up residence in a neighbouring country (Moon in the 3rd).
I wrote an article a few years ago about him and his astrological connections with his predecessor (13th Dalai Lama) – Dalai Lama – Been Here Before
I felt at the time that the piece had something missing and now I feel I have discovered the missing piece of the jigsaw.
One interesting point is that his Cancer Sun and Ascendant is trine this Saturn which makes it possible for him to settle in neighbouring Dharmsala, India on the other side of the Himalayas.
This opposition, if it was on its own or part of a T Square would in all likelihood prevent this from happening and he could also have been under direct Chinese control.
His predecessor, the 13th Dalai Lama saw the writing on the wall and knew there would be an invasion from China.
He also realised that this would come when he was in his mid 70s and he would either be too old, or his next incarnation would be too young to be able to help his subjects.
So he took the decision to die before his allotted time, in order to allow the current Dalai Lama time to grow up before the Chinese took over.
So he died in 1933 at the age of 57 in order to make life easier for his successor, who was born a couple of years later.
This is an extraordinary conscious use of reincarnation for a particular end, with an immense personal sacrifice for the sake of his religion and his people.
If we use my recently discovered technique of secondary regressions and take the current Dalai Lama’s chart backwards, we find that two years before he was born his regressed Sun was exactly trine his 9th house Saturn.
So we can see a clear connection to the main theme of his life here. The voluntary early death of the 13th Dalai Lama created the conditions for the 14th to be old enough to escape the Chinese and to preserve the religious traditions in such a way as to enable Tibetan Buddhism to spread widely around the world.
The Sun trine a 9th house Saturn and sextile a 3rd house Moon and Neptune does exactly that, and none of these things could have happened if his predecessor had not made that decision in 1933.
We could regress the Dalai Lama’s chart back another 365 years and we still wouldn’t find such an aspect. It is a powerful advocate for the secondary regressions method that I have discovered.
It is profoundly difficult to find any kind of proof of reincarnation, but this thread comes closer than anything else could do.
But it also raises some other questions about the whole subject and the how and why of past and future lives.
I have read many claims from people that they are reincarnated from many centuries back and had to wait such a long time between lives because the conditions for return weren’t special enough.
Which is interesting when you consider that the spiritual leader of the nation most associated with reincarnation reappears within a year or two of their predecessor’s death.
Maybe these people are higher up the ladder of consciousness than the Dalai Lama. Or maybe they are just egotistical cosmic bullshitters. Perhaps we can just say that they are caught up in what Tibetan Lama Chogyam Trungpa described as spiritual materialism.
What if it’s not about you and your soul’s development at all? What if we are all reincarnated because the Universe needs us to fulfil these roles.
And the more evolved the soul, the more quickly they will come back because of humanity’s greater need.
I have always observed that the tighter the aspects orbs the more powerfully they play out in the person’s life.
If we refer to secondary regressions, a quickly returning soul is likely to have much closer natal aspects to the very planets that triggered their death in the last life and will therefore have more demanding challenges to face in this life but with the stronger personal qualities to be able to deal with them.
His Holiness has suggested that he might be the last incarnation, owing to the inevitability that China will interfere in the process of choosing the next one and would be expected to install their own version, as they have for the Panchen Lama.
If so they might have to move quickly because he is about to experience his 3rd Saturn Return also opposite his Moon in the New Year.
On top of that his progressed Sun will form a quincunx with Saturn and square to his Ascendant in 2025-26.
If that does happen to be the case, maybe we will be able to use Secondary Regressions to help pick the true 15th Dalai Lama.
