Changes of governments are generally pretty easy to spot astrologically if you stick to tried and trusted methods – see Electional Astrology – How They Try To Control Us and Electing The President – Profection Or Perfection.
If you combine the transits of the party leaders with a contest chart for the opening of the polling booths, you should get the result 90% of the time, but there are some times when the Universe flags a change in so strongly that the corridors of power seem to be vertical rather than horizontal.

If this were the chart for the kick off of an FA Cup Final, it would be a clear win for the underdog.
In political elections, the Ascendant ruler is the incumbent and the Descendant ruler is their main rival.
So the Labour Party would be Jupiter, and the National Party is Mercury. The Moon’s application to a conjunction with Mercury gives it to the Nats.
There is also the simple matter that this election is being held on a solar eclipse, which is always bad news for the party in power.
And its leader.

The eclipse falls at 21 Libra, within a degree of Prime Minister Chris Hipkins’ Mars. The noon chart places that Mars in the 11th house of politics.
But Hipkins’ natal chart with its Sun in Virgo conjunct Saturn, seems to be saying that he will bring on the fall off the house of Labour anyway.
The comparison with neighbouring PM, Australia’s Anthony Albanese, whose politically well intentioned but astrologically naive calling of a referendum on a proposed indigenous people’s Voice to Parliament on the same day, is stunning.
Albanese has his Sun at 11 Pisces, so with Hipkins’ own at 12 Virgo, they are both about to receive a heavy dose of Saturn in the New Year.
So both elections this weekend will go against them and feed the flavour of their coming Saturn transits.
But while the Australian has his natal Sun widely conjunct Jupiter indicating that he will probably survive it, Hipkins has it conjunct Saturn, so this will mean his political career is over at the top end of things.
Who will be the chief beneficiary ?

Again we are dealing with a noon chart but it whatever time of day he was born, Nationals leader Chris Luxon has a T square with the Sun opposite the Moon and an apex Jupiter.
Transit Pluto is working its way through that pattern, with it exactly on the noon Moon this weekend.
So whichever way we look at it there is going to be a transfer of power because of this eclipse.
These things are written in the heavens. Sadly we do not live in a world that understands this simple fact. The media are always looking for some mere mortal to blame.
And if there’s woman around it’s likely that it will be her.
“ As flies to wanton boys are we to the gods; They kill us for their sport. “
This quote was taken from Shakespeare’s King Lear and uttered by Gloucester as he wanders on the heath after being blinded by Cornwall and Regan.
But despite the play being dominated by some of the most vicious, evil bastards in the history of theatre, it’s Lear’s daughters that get the blame for most of it.
The person getting most of the blame for the current state of the New Zealand Labour Party is its former queen.

As the Queen of woke, Jacinda Ardern would be an obvious target for the whole right wing fake news agenda.
With a Leo Sun and Capricorn Moon, Jacinda was an exceptional and strongleader.
I often say that whatever the signs in a chart, the major life theme will be indicated by a T square.
Ardern’s is Venus in Gemini opposite Neptune focused on an apex Saturn indicating a caring, nurturing presence who shepherded her country through the Covid outbreak using tight border controls to protect New Zealanders, despite the flak that was sent her way from others. She also had to deal with the worst terrorist atrocity in the country’s history.
She did all this despite becoming a mother while in office, only the 2nd political leader in history to do so.
Ardern became an international advocate for the rights of women and many disenfranchised groups, much to the chagrin of Murdoch’s media empire.
But all of this would take its toll, particularly when transit Neptune formed a Grand Cross with her TSquare, as it had over the last couple of years.
However the media would be right to blame her for the fall of Australian Labour because on the very day that she resigned as PM she announced the date for this election.
Ardern stressed that she resigned because of burnout and felt that she could no longer give the job the commitment it required.
But perhaps as a Leo Sun, she realised that the wall to wall favourable press that she’d been used to receiving ( at least in her own country ) was subsiding and questions were being asked about the post Covid cost of living problems.
The writing was already on the wall.

Venus in Aquarius conjunct Saturn in the 11th house of the noon chart, points to the end of a radical female career.
An exact Sun / Pluto conjunction showed the end of this era. And the chief beneficairy would be Luxon whose noon Moon was exactly conjunct this combo.
So she left, and with her final act, ensured that her party would have to face reelection on the day of an eclipse.
Perhaps that’s the Leo dictum. If I can’t rule -then no one will.
She could have picked any other election Saturday up to late November, there are several that would have given her party a much better chance of success, but given the transits of both Chris 1 and Chris 2, October 14th was the choice of the infinite corridor.
The gods must have their sport.
And the main one in New Zealand largely consists of grabbing your opponent by their thighs and hauling them to the ground.
So if you insist on scheduling an important contest on the day of a solar eclipse, its not impossible that you’ll win but you’ll have to get past a whole team of 2 metre squared islander hunks performing a Haka in your face first.
