Google the astrology of cheating and you will find some ” research ” done by dating websites into which signs are most likely to play away from home.
But as usual whenever corporate muggles try on their astro witch’s hat ( usually with the idea that it will make them more of their ” earth money ” ) they get the whole thing badly wrong.
One site confidently claims the sign most likely to cheat is Libra with 16 % of the Illicit Encounters database because they are naturally flirtatious. Another one in Cosmopolitan places Libra at the bottom of the pile because only 7 % have considered having an affair.
I have 207 timed charts of famous people who have cheated on their partners. The highest scoring Sun sign is in fact Libra with 23.
So what should we conclude from this ?
Maybe that Librans are not only cheats but also the biggest liars when being interviewed by glossy magazines about their romantic intentions.
The above score for Libra is not statistically significant and it’s quite likely that another piece of research would yield quite a different result.
However when we look at distribution by element, the findings are more interesting. The element of Air scores highest with 65 and Fire the lowest with 42.
Is that it then ?
Well obviously not because Capricorn Research articles always start with some astrological generalisation and then proceed to confound that theory with vast amounts of contrary evidence.
This might not go down well with the vast majority of dating website users, but a Sun sign is a pretty useless guide as to how someone will behave in a relationship. The Sun describes the part of us that is our individual essence and how we perform as a separate self.
The Moon would be a better bet because it’s about our feelings, our needs and how we respond to other people.
And the Moon sign distribution for the 207 famous cheats is much more significant.
The highest scoring Moon sign is Pisces with 28 followed by Aries with 26. The lowest scoring being Aquarius with 9.
The P score for this distribution is 0.058, not statistical proof of a link but interesting nonetheless, particularly as both these signs could suggest an interest in moving on and looking for comfort and intimacy elsewhere.
This is backed up by the figures for Cardinal Moons at 77, Mutables at 79 and Fixed signs, tending to signify someone who is more likely to stay put and seek longevity in relationships at 51.
This distribution creates a P score of 0.029 which is around the figure that might convince sceptics to have a further look.
In terms of extramarital relationships we should probably look at the placements of Venus and Mars which yield a highest scoring Venus in Pisces and Mars in Gemini, both on 24.
The lowest scoring in the Venus and Mars stakes is Venus in Capricorn with 11.
The house placements also reveal some interesting themes. For the Sun, the highest scoring is the much travelled 9th house with 24.
The Moon also top scores in the 9th with 22.
Both Venus and Mars score highest in the 12th house with 26 and 23 respectively which perhaps is pointing to secret liaisons.
The highest scoring house placement is Pluto in the 8th with 27.
But the most interesting house theme is for the 7th, the place of marriage and relationships.
The 7th scores very low for Mars ( 10 ) the Moon ( 11 ), Mercury ( 12 ), Venus ( 13 ), Uranus ( 14 ), Saturn and Neptune ( 15 ) and the Sun ( 16 ), but very high for Pluto ( 23 ) and Jupiter ( 24 ).
Given that the house any planet is in describes the area of life that is most important to the native, it’s fair to conclude that we would expect a low score for cheats because 7th house people would naturally have the desire and the innate skills to preserve relationship rather than betray it.
Pluto, however is the great destroyer so we would expect a high 7th house score.
Jupiter by house points to an area in life where we seek expansion and more opportunity so it’s not surprising that people with this placement might be tempted to see if they can get away with having more than one relationship on the go at any one time.
For aspects the lowest score is the Sun / Saturn opposition with 4 which is what we might expect as this aspect would indicate someone who would be more inclined to restrict themselves to conventional modes of expression.
The highest scoring is the Venus / Neptune opposition with 15 which is more than 50% over the expected figure.
The Venus / Neptune conjunction also scores high with 14. The Moon / Neptune opposition also has 14.
So we have a strong Neptune theme when it comes to people who cheat on their partners.
The Moon in Pisces is the highest scoring sign placement with Venus in Pisces coming joint third.
Venus in the 12th is the 2nd highest scoring house placement.
Venus and Moon / Neptune are the highest scoring aspects.
One player who has many of these themes is Sonny Bono, Cher’s pop star partner and first husband.
” According to Cher, Sonny was seeing multiple women at one time and she eventually grew tired of husband’s cheating ways.
“Stardom made Sonny a huge womanizer. One woman, or even five, was not enough for him… I asked him, ‘How did you manage the logistics?’ I was trusting and faithful with him. I’m not sure we should’ve ever been husband and wife.”
Aquarius is the 2nd highest scoring Sun sign but the main features here are the very challenging aspects of Venus and Mars.
Venus is in top scoring Pisces with the highest scoring aspect opposite Neptune in the high frequency cheating 12th house.
Mars is in Libra in the 1st opposite a disruptive Uranus in the 7th house and this focuses by T Square onto an apex Pluto in the 10th.
It would also be easy to read this T Square as indicating that Sonny’s cheating would in the end disrupt his career, as he never had the same success once his marriage ended, whereas Cher went on to become a superstar.
When you have a chart with two strong aspect patterns, there will often be very significant events that occur when a slow moving planet from one hits the other one.
This was particularly true for Sonny Bono as his marriage to Cher occurred in October 1964 when Uranus and Pluto were conjunct at 13 – 15 Virgo, right on his Venus / Neptune opposition.
Interestingly Uranus was opposite Bono’s Mars in 1973 and 74 as their marriage disintegrated.
Pluto was conjunct Sonny’s Ascendant in June 1975 when they divorced.
Needless to say, the synastry between Sonny and Cher was fairly intense.
This opposition also fits very tightly onto Sonny’s T Square with the Moon forming a Grand Cross.
And her Uranus formed the apex of a T-square to Sonny’s Venus / Neptune opposition.
Inevitably that Moon / Saturn opposition would continue to cause relationship problems for Cher.
Four days after her divorce from Sonny, Cher married rock star Greg Allman and nine days later filed for divorce due to his drink and drug problems. They finally divorced in 1979 when Pluto was square to Cher’s 7th house Moon.
But given her Moon / Saturn forms a T Square with an apex Jupiter, these difficult marriage themes would not have a negative impact on her career.
So how to tell if your intended will cheat on you ? Even if they say ” I Got You Babe “.
