Lets look at an extreme example – the serial killer Peter Sutcliffe.

If you put his details into a computer generated astro thingy or read each placement out of a book, how long would it take you (if at all) to get to the essence of this chart?

Lets see. Sun in Gemini warrants a page or so of light and easy. Moon in Cancer gets a paragraph on him being kind to his Mum, Mercury in Gemini blah blah, Venus in. Cancer etc etc, Mars in Leo……

By the time we get to the Sun in the 7th house and Moon in the 8th you might be tempted to ring him up for a date.

So how helpful is this approach really?

If we look at the distribution first we see a bizarre concentration of energy, 8 planets including all the personal ones within 2 houses.

It’s a right sided dominance so obviously relationships are the main targeted area.

But it’s particularly focused on the 8th house. The main themes of that are sex, death and other people’s money. So with this kind of concentration, these themes are going to come up a lot.

When we look at the actual planets that are in there we can see more.

The Moon, Venus and Mars puts the emphasis very strongly on sex.

Saturn and Pluto joining in brings some dark energy as well.

Aspects as always are key. In a stellium like this we are talking about conjunctions.

Always look at the tightest ones. What do they indicate?

Right in the middle of this 8th house bonfire is a Moon/Saturn conjunction with less than a quarter of a degree between them.

This is key. It is in Cancer, so it makes sense that there are some deep seated emotional issues related to his mother.

Sutcliffe witnessed his mother being severely abused by his father.

So he spent his time killing sex workers (8th house sex, death and money).

Is there anything else going on in Sutcliffe’s chart?

He had Sun, in the 7th house so while all this was going on he was also married. Although the conjunction with Uranus would suggest that it was an unusual relationship.

The Moon’s square with Jupiter in the 10th house suggests that it might have been a bit tricky for him managing his work life along with all that murdering.

Transits would tell us that his killing spree started in 1975, on his Saturn Return.

So the very aspect that is at the core of all this murdering, the extremely tight Moon/Saturn conjunction was also the thing that triggered it.

Otherwise that’s about it. How much more do we need to know really?

So you can see how this way of looking at a chart gets us to the centre of the action straight away.

When I posted my article on https://astrologyresearch.co.uk/peter-sutcliffe-8th…/ one person responded by saying ” I also have an 8th house stellium and haven’t murdered anyone up to this point. Are you saying ….”

Quite obviously I am not. Just because one person with certain placements acts in one way that doesn’t mean that everyone etc etc.

This is the problem with old style, tablets of stone approach to astrology. Their focus is on placements and what they mean rather than on trying to understand the whole chart of one person and how the symbolism works in that particular case.

There are lots of people with 8th house stelliums who don’t spend their spare time murdering sex workers.

Here’s a similar example of an 8th house stellium. The birthchart of John F Kennedy.

The theme of sex, death and other people’s money (inheritance) is still there of course, JFK could be said to have lots of all three of them.

But the difference between having the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter there rather than Sutcliffe’s Pluto and an exact Moon/Saturn is vital.

Note also the exact square between Venus (his ruler) and the Moon.

This combination suggests someone who would rather be doing a variety (Gemini) of 8th house things with Marilyn Monroe (Sun at 10 Gemini), but the square with the 11th house Moon insists that he has to squeeze a bit of politics in there as well.

The other tight square is between that Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Uranus.

This is the astro factor behind his shock assassination.

One thing that is always the case with Uranus square aspects is that the planet’s half return by transit (usually at around the age of 42) would trigger the pattern very strongly.

In 1960 when he was elected, Uranus was square to his Mercury, Mars and Jupiter.

In 1963 when he was assassinated, Uranus was square to his Sun.

But of course, as we’ve seen today (with Trump’s attempted assassination), Uranus on its own or even with Mars can miss its target.

Not in 1963 though because Pluto was right alongside it.

Every single chart should be considered as a unique entity. We need to work out how the symbols are manifesting their energies in the case that is in front of us.

So to reiterate, we should start by looking at a chart for an overall impression, not at specific placements.

Is there a particular spread of planets or a hemisphere or angle emphasis?

We have already seen from King Charles’ chart that there is a concentration around the bottom of the chart in the 4th house.

But also that the Moon dominates it from the top in the 10th.

As previously mentioned, this suggests that he is an essentially private person who would rather stay at home focusing on internal or family matters, but there is one very strong factor that pulls him into the public domain.

Naturally we want to try and get some sense of what or who this Moon represents.

Given that family themes are so strong, it is fair to ask if the Moon represents his mother, Elizabeth.

Some charts can easily be understood when taken on their own, others have to be considered alongside other important people in their lives.

Once we realise that the Queen had her Sun at 0.12 Taurus, we know we are onto something.

So Charles obviously wants his life to be a certain way, down there in the 4th house.

Most of us would want our Mums to be supporting us from behind or underneath us.

But Charles Mum (Moon) couldn’t be further from that, she is a long way from him out there in the 10th house.

Not only is she not supporting him emotionally, but her life’s example is a constant pressure on him to try and be something that he’s not actually cut out for.

Once we have a simple overview like this we can look at the major aspects.

Just by looking at any aspect patterns that involve the Sun, Moon or Ascendant or any planets close to the angles we can get the main life themes.

Charles Moon is opposite his Mercury, which accentuates the issues we have already picked up.

He is very conflicted between what he feels (Moon) and what he thinks (Mercury).

This is exacerbated by the fact that Mercury is in Scorpio, a deep feeling Water sign.

This opposition is part of a T square which focuses onto his Ascendant, this can be seen by the red lines connecting both the Moon and Mercury to it.

This creates a further difficulty for him because he has to deal with all this lack of emotional support and constant pressure to be something that he isn’t, and has to also project an image of royalty, dignity and natural confidence (Leo rising).

If there are strong challenging aspects between the Ascendant and other personal planets, the way that person appears to others and has to project themselves is very different to their real inner self.

Looking for red lines in a chart is the simplest way to locate the drama in the life themes.

There is a thick one between Jupiter and Uranus and this also includes his Mars.

Given that Mars and Jupiter are in the house of children, this could account for the disconnect between him and Harry.

The other one to spot is the square aspect between the Sun and Pluto.

This has extra significance because Pluto is his Sun ruler and in the 1st house.

The Sun/Pluto square means there will be a massive upheaval in his life when Pluto by transit forms another aspect with his Sun.

He would only have one Pluto/Sun transit in his life. This was the conjunction in 1992, the year when all hell broke loose and the separation from Diana was announced, the annus horribilis.

Given that his Sun is in the 4th house, the reverberations would be immense for his whole family.

The other notable transit would be Pluto’s square to his Moon.

Given that his Moon signifies his mother’s dominance over his whole life and the 10th house is the career, its fascinating that this transit killed her off and made him king.

It is a massive irony that he had to wait this long to actually have anything that could even remotely be called a job and as soon as he got it, he was diagnosed with cancer.

Note that Pluto still has stuff to do, hitting the rest of the T Square.

It will be opposite his Ascendant and square to his Mercury over the next few years.

We’ve looked at the main themes in Charles chart and seen the power that his mother held over him. What about her chart?

Again the main focus is on the lower part of the chart, indicating that Elizabeth would be an essentially private person.

But there is another planet right at the top which totally dominates the chart and consequently her whole life.

This planet is given extra power by being the apex of a tight T Square shown by the strong red triangle.

This is Saturn, the planet of responsibility, duty, limitation, authority.

So Liz would have rather stayed at home but had no choice, her Saturn destiny of duty was forced on her by external circumstances.

Elizabeth, like Charles has her Sun and Moon in Fixed signs. She actually has 6 Fixed planets, Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter Saturn and Neptune.

She also has Capricorn rising. So she would be a very conservative character, with great stamina and endurance.

But this woman cannot be understood without recognising the power of Saturn at the Midheaven.

Look at the links. Charles’ Moon that dominates his life is 0.25 Taurus. Her Sun is 0.12 Taurus.

The chances of synastry like that occurring is over 1000/1 against.

His Sun is 22.25 Scorpio, her Saturn that dominates her life is 24.26 Scorpio.

The chances of both these connections occurring is over 100,000/1 against.

So her 10th house Saturn is conjunct his 4th house Sun.

If your Sun is conjunct someone else’s Saturn the main requirements of your life will be denied or restricted by that person and you will be forced to compensate for that by developing them yourself.

So the key theme in his life, the need for emotional (Scorpio) security (4th house) is denied by her duty (Saturn) to the nation (10th).

One very important thing with synastry this tight is that they will share the major transits.

in 1939 when the war began, transit Pluto was square to Liz Sun and Saturn was conjunct it.

1953 when her father died unexpectedly young and she acceded to the throne, transit Pluto was opposite her Mars and square to her Saturn.

Charles at 4 years old, had transit Pluto square to his own Sun. It must have been traumatic for the poor little prince.

Pluto moves very slowly so even if you live as long as Liz, you won’t get more than two major transits to any one point in a lifetime.

The next time Pluto hit these points was the year 1992, the queen’s annus horribilis when Charles separated from Diana, Andrew from Fergie, Anne’s marriage also broke up and Windsor castle was on fire.

Transit Pluto was conjunct Charles Sun and obviously also conjunct Liz’s Saturn. It was also square her Mars.

She died 30 years later with Saturn conjunct her Mars and square her Saturn. It was also square Charles Sun.

He was crowned a year later with Pluto square his Moon and square her Sun.

If your astrology does not recognise the simply powerful themes that we have identified straight away as beginners, together with the utterly staggering power of Pluto transits, you will have missed all this.

Many so called astrologers did exactly that.
