The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy revealed that ” The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything ” was 42.

This revelation was entirely down to Uranus.

And as all my readers will know, there’s no such thing as coincidence.

Douglas Adams, the author of Hitchhikers Guide had Uranus exactly on his Ascendant at the apex of a T Square involving Mercury and Saturn.

So he knew what he was writing about.

42 has always been associated with the maverick planet.

It is the number of years required for Uranus to make a half return ( the full cycle is 84 years ) and has always been associated with the age of rebellion, the mid life crisis.

This may or may not be significant but Uranus was discovered 242 years ago today.

Until the late 18th century there was no such thing as the mid life crisis because there was no Uranus and no Harley Davidsons for aging pony tailed men to trade their four door saloons for.

Also life expectancy in those days was forty something so any mid life crisis would occur around the 2nd Jupiter Return. Maybe there was a surfeit of ” middle aged ” men all wanting to buy bigger horses.

In the chart for the moment of its own discovery, Uranus played itself as both the singleton bucket handle and an important member of a tight T Square.

Uranus’ job in astrology is the breaking down of barriers and the going beyond of boundaries that were previously firmly set by Saturn.

The chart clearly shows this with the new planet firmly opposed to the old one.

Uranus very quickly got to work and old feudal rules and traditions that had been in place since time began were thrown to the proletarian wolves.

The French Revolution and execution of Louis XV1 has got to be the most dramatic and successful rebellion of ordinary folk up to that point in history

The execution of King Louis occurred with a powerful Grand Cross in Fixed signs naturally including Uranus but also exactly ( an orb of 3 minutes ) opposite its as yet undiscovered revolutionary partner, Pluto.

Its important to note that Uranus was at 22 Leo in sextile to its own natal ( discovery ) position.

While we all recognise that 42 is a time in our life when we feel the need to change things up and remind ourselves that we are not old or set in our ways, we are probably less likely to buy an iconic motorbike when we are in our mid 80s.

This doesn’t apply to planets however which would tend to live a lot longer.

We would therefore expect Uranus’ own return to embody all its own revolutionary qualities. It’s only had two of them to date but they both lived up to those expectations.

The first one was 1863, which has been known as Abraham Lincoln’s Incredible Year. This began with the January 1st Emancipation Proclamation and culminated with the Gettysburg Address.

Uranus was within a few minutes of its natal position and appropriately was placed in the 3rd house of speeches.

Gettysburg was addressed by a natural son of Uranus

There was a time when being a Republican politician required a brain and the tiniest interest in the well being of your fellow man.

Abe Lincoln born with the Sun exactly rising in Aquarius played both parts to perfection.

Uranus was trine his Sun and Ascendant when he delivered Gettysburg.

It’s also interesting that the powerful Mars / Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio exactly in opposition to Pluto in the address chart falls right on the Uranus Discovery Ascendant.

Also the Mars / Jupiter was closely conjunct Lincoln’s own Uranus.

It’s as if the Universe was saying this was why the planet was spotted in the first place.

The next Uranus Return occurred in 1947 – 48, a period which covered Indian independence, the formation of the state of Israel and the Chinese Communist Revolution.

Like the previous return there were a number of dates in that year that could be used – I feel that the equivalent to Gettysburg would be the reconstitution of two communist armies to form the People’s Liberation Army in October 1947.

At 26 Gemini, Uranus was within 2 degrees of its natal position.

However we might see it now, the Communist Revolution in China was a powerful act of rebellion which had totally Uranian aims.

The net result however could perhaps be indicated by the Moon in this chart.

The Moon’s conjunction with Saturn in Leo is hardly one that describes a bright new age. It is totally bound up with old authoritarian structures.

Compared to the Gettysburg compassionate Moon and Ascendant in Pisces, this one is dominated by an ogre of the highest order.

Mao Tse Tung’s Capricorn Sun / Ascendant combination could not be further from Abe Lincoln’s Aquarius one.

That with the Moon in Leo as part of a tough Fixed Grand Cross meant that the Chinese Communist revolution ( unlike the US Civil War ) would never result in the liberation of its people.

It would only produce further enslavement and the autocratic rule of one man.

And this is an important rule to remember when dealing with Uranus transits.

It’s change certainly but not necessarily for the better.

Maybe we best keep that in mind for the next one which occurs in 2031 – 2.

With Uranus conjunct Saturn in the 3rd house opposite a Mars / Jupiter conjunction in the 9th creating a Grand Cross with the Sun and the Ascendant, it does look like a liberation invasion by some foreign power.

If you try hard enough you can see it all there, the 3rd house road thing, the 9th house aliens, even the Pisces rising poetry.

And the Ascendant is exactly conjunct Douglas Adams Sun.

Yes on 22nd September 2031 at 18.40 our planet is scheduled for destruction by a Vogon constructor fleet to make way for a Hyperspace Bypass.

And you didn’t even have to go to Alpha Centauri to find this out.
