Astrology is really very simple, we should not let astrologers complicate it.

If we concentrate solely on what is actually there, our life patterns are revealed to us with devastating clarity.

There are so many methods that are based on assumptions which are countered by those of others. Different Zodiacs and house systems, profections, midpoints, harmonics and countless other theories.

The one thing that we know for certain is the planets and their angular relationship to each other as seen from the perspective of the Earth.

So if our approach to astrology driven primarily by planetary aspects, we have it all laid out for us on a plate.

We can all agree when there is a Full Moon, we can see it above us. We might disagree as to what sign or house it’s in but the phenomena itself is irrefutable.

The interpretations are obvious too, it isn’t rocket science.

The opposition is a very clear pattern.

Two parts of ourselves are pulling in opposite directions placing simultaneous demands on us. This is naturally challenging. It is difficult to appease both parts, when their requirements are diametrically opposed.

This aspect creates a conflict and a lot of energy has to be generated in that person’s life because they are constantly having to be pulled from one end of it to the other.

This would particularly be the case when the opposition is between the two most fundamental parts of ourselves, the Sun and Moon.

This sense of polarity would feel stronger in some sign combinations than others. Fixed signs would be equally determined in opposite directions.

The Sun in Taurus opposite the Moon in Scorpio gives the feeling of a strong split between the daytime and nighttime parts of ourselves.

If the Moon is also conjunct Pluto the struggle between the forces of light and dark would be a very strong theme in that person’s life.

Oppositions by their very nature will often manifest externally. The individual is likely to identify as the Sun and the Moon would represent the reactions of other people to them.

We all have our natal charts that identify the major themes in our lives, but these are also reinforced by transits to our placements.

Particularly so in the case of an opposition because any transit by conjunction to one placement would simultaneously be opposing the other one.

Even favourable, auspicious transits would carry with them this kind of quality.

The Women’s Football World Cup has always played second fiddle to the Men’s. But with an 80% increase on the previous one, the 2023 tournament in Australia garnered a global TV audience comparable to the male version of the year before.

The final was won by Spain, 1-0 against England. This win was predicted by me before the tournament began on the strength of the Spanish captain’s transits, Jupiter being conjunct her Sun.

Jenni Hermoso however has a Taurus Sun in opposition to a Moon/Pluto conjunction in Scorpio, so even at the greatest moment of her life, she was plagued by the other end of this transit.

Moments after winning the final, before she even got her hands on the trophy, she received the kiss of death live on TV.

The President of the Spanish football association, Luis Rubiales, took her head in both hands and firmly planted a kiss on her lips.

The shock and outrage at this non consensual assault has to be seen in conjunction with the patriarchal sporting atmosphere in Spain and a recent conflict where half of the women’s team refused to play for the manager because of his misogyny and were dropped from the squad for this tournament.

Rubiales also had history of making these kind of gestures as he had previously grabbed his crotch when standing on stage next to the Queen and her underage daughter.

He also paraded around the pitch after the final carrying one of the other players over his shoulder in a fireman’s lift.

On the day of the final, Venus in Leo formed a T square with Jenni Hermoso’s Sun, Moon and Pluto.

Hermoso has a natal T square involving an opposition Jupiter and Uranus which focuses onto an apex Venus in Aries.

This might be a pointer to her preference for same sex relationships which she has confirmed since the tournament, but also refers to the possibility of such an assault occurring to her.

Interestingly, all three were closely aspecting her Sun at the time, as Uranus was only three degrees past it.

But perhaps the more difficult transit for her has occurred since, Saturn has been conjunct her Mars as she has been the victim of much vilification on social media and a campaign of pressure to get her to defend her assailant by saying that the kiss was consensual.

Luis Rubiales has Mars in Gemini conjunct Jupiter probably in opposition to a Sagittarius Moon, the kind of combination that would suggest someone who felt entitled to take these kind of unilateral actions.

He also has a wide Sun/Saturn conjunction.

Transit Saturn was opposite his Sun for the kiss. It has just opposed his apex Mercury as he has been convicted of assault for it.

He was acquitted of the further charge of coercion by pressurising Hermoso to say it was consensual.

Luis Rubiales has an exact Sun/Jupiter sextile.

On the day he was found guilty, the Sun was opposite his Sun. But this is the thing with favourable natal aspects, even difficult transits will also have an easy side to them.

The Sun on the day was also trine his Jupiter.

Rubiales faced up to 3 years in prison but was merely fined 10,000 Euros and told to pay compensation of 3,000 Euros to Jenni Hermoso. This was the equivalent to one week’s wages in his previous post as Spanish football president.

For Hermoso the verdict was read out on her Venus Return. This being in the noon chart 9th house of law, is perfect.

But Venus is the apex of a TSquare with Jupiter and Uranus, the three planets involved on World Cup Final day.

This is the nature of oppositions. Whether it’s the World Cup or a sexual assault court case, even when you win, a part of you also loses.
