M Is A Hard Mars Aspect To Follow

In determining the actual life themes of a person, planetary patterns are the most important thing in an astrological chart, more so than the signs or houses.

A caricature pattern would be the T square, if a chart contains one it is inevitable that the themes of the three (or more) planets, signs and houses involved will dominate that person’s life.

These aspect patterns will often be present throughout families, particularly if there is a 4th house quality.

The second person to send me their family patterns request was M.

By any way of looking at it, M has a chart full of drama.

A close T Square involving Mars/Saturn and an apex Sun, with an equally tight Moon/Pluto conjunction in Sagittarius and an exact Venus/Uranus conjunction in Aquarius is going to produce an exciting and unusual personal life.

I will often use Equal House for charts set for over 50 degrees North, because Placidus can produce such a wide variety of house lengths.

This places the T Square in angular houses, with Mars in Libra in the 1st opposite Saturn in the 7th and the apex Sun in the 4th.

Inevitably, there will be some powerful family patterns.

And these would have been triggered very strongly between 2020 and 22 as transit Pluto went through M’s T Square, conjunct the Sun and square to Mars and Saturn.

In 2022, transit Uranus renewed its powerful contact with Venus by square aspect.

“In August 2020, M moved to Canada (transit Pluto conjunct 4th house Sun).

In July 2021, she got into a near fatal accident that caused her to stay in Canada instead of return to finish her degree (transit Pluto square 1st house Mars)

In February 2022, she met her child’s father, who became extremely toxic and abusive. He proposed in April 2022, but they didn’t marry (transit Pluto square 7th house Saturn)

In February 2023 M’s daughter was born (transit Uranus square 5th house Venus).

In September 2023, M moved to Ireland to live with her mom and sisters, no contact with daughter’s father and was able to leave him officially in November 2023″

The first question that comes up is what is M’s synastry with the baby’s father?

Fifty years of studying the charts of both the famous and the ordinary has enabled me to pick the important themes in their charts very quickly and the articles on my site are designed largely to help my readers do that as well.

Those who are familiar with them will have already spotted the connections.

This man’s Moon is at 25 Aries and North Node is closely conjunct M’s 7th house Saturn and playing right into her T Square.

So he is the perfect vehicle to deliver her Saturn experience to her.

His Moon is square to Mars, which is also conjunct her Sun, no doubt the synastry that brought them together in the first place.

His Moon is in the 5th house indicating parenthood.

Needless to say, it was Pluto’s transit square to his Moon and North Node that brought them together, gave them a daughter and separated them.

As Pluto is nataly opposite his Moon (even though the orb is wide), this transit would be extra difficult.

Other challenging synastry between them is seen from the fact that M’s Moon/Pluto is conjunct his 1st house Saturn.

And also his Venus is opposite her Venus/Uranus.

And transit Uranus would be square to his Venus during the separation and the loss of his daughter.

This man also has an 8th house Cancer Sun in opposition to Neptune. If ever there is an indicator of someone losing their father, it is this one.

“In 1991 (at the age of 5), his father was killed in front of him, during a civil war (transit Uranus opposite his 8th house Cancer Sun).

In 1995 he moved to Canada with his family ( transit Uranus and Neptune square to his Moon).

In 2005/6 he had two sons with ex wife ( transit Saturn square to 5th house Moon and Neptune opposite Venus)

In 2012 he returned to Canada ( transit Saturn opposite Moon and Pluto opposite Sun)

In 2016 he received 5 years in prison ( transit Uranus square his Mars and conjunct his Moon)”.

So clearly his experience and chart have contributed to the situation with M.

Going back to M’s chart, we can see that by the age of 25 she has already been through more than most people do in a lifetime.

A birthchart will indicate themes for a whole lifetime. Obviously we would have to interpret them in an age appropriate way, but the patterns that would create such upheaval for M and her baby’s father would have to be present in her own birth family.

The T square with a 4th house apex Sun would deliver a difficult experience with her own father and the Moon/Pluto conjunction would likely point to a volatile life for her mother.

A lot of these themes were present in her mother’s chart as well.

Her mother also has a T square involving Mars and Saturn.

This one includes Venus and focuses on an apex Mars in Aquarius in the 5th house. As both Venus and Mars are involved it is naturally to do with relationships but the focus on the 5th brings children significantly into the mix.

M’s mother also has a close square aspect between her Scorpio Sun and her Moon. Her father died before she was born.

The Sun in the 3rd also suggests a separation from her siblings (3rd house). M’s mother was the youngest of 4, her three siblings were between 15 and 18 years older than her. Interestingly she has the Sun, Mercury and Neptune in the 3rd house of siblings in square to her own Moon.

” In 1976, (at the age of 6) Mom went to Ireland while her siblings stayed as they were older (transit Uranus in T Square, conjunct Venus square Mars, transit Saturn forming a Grand Cross with T Square, opposite Mars, square Venus).

1985, at the age of 15 she met M’s Dad (transit Saturn conjunct her Sun)

In 1988, M’s grandmother passed, suffered with serious depression throughout a lot of moms childhood after her grandads death, her mom said it was very hard for her growing up with her ( transit Pluto square her Mum’s Mars)

In July 1997, M’s Mum married her Dad, he revealed weeks before wedding that he had cheated (around 1990) but everything was planned for a wedding in Canada and it went ahead (transit Uranus conjunct Mars and square Venus in 1997), (transit Pluto was square her Moon in 1990).

End of 2000- M’s Mum separated from her Dad, she wanted to leave when M was around 6 months old but got pregnant with her brother. She left a couple months after his birth (transit Uranus conjunct her Moon)

In 2002, M’s Mum met her ex step dad, split form him while pregnant in mid 2003 (transit Neptune conjunct apex 5th house Mars 2002 – 03).

In 2008 – they got back together, had M’s sister in 2009 (transit Neptune conjunct Sun 2008 – 09)

In April 2020 they separated, which made it extremely difficult on everyone as he’s a terrible person and made everything a lot harder/complicated. (transit Uranus opposite Venus square Mars).

In May 2024, the court papers were finally signed for the sale of the family house that will allow M’s Mum to move back to Canada later this year (transit Uranus opposite Sun).”

With all these events we can see the strong Venus/Mars/Saturn T Square themes playing out particularly around the apex 5th house Mars.

To what extent can we link M’s own experience of pregnancy, childbirth and separation from the father to her mothers own?

Well M’s extremely tight Venus/Uranus conjunction in Aquarius in the 5th is closely conjunct her mother’s apex Mars in the same sign and house.

So this is a very powerful example of a family pattern repeating itself through the generations.

What about M’s father?

Does his chart play into her mother’s experience in a similar way to M’s own with the father of her daughter?

Yes of course it does.

We don’t have a birthtime for M’s father but he has Mars in Sagittarius i with a difficult exact square with Saturn.

He also has a prominent T square.

His Moon is exactly opposite Neptune and focuses on an apex Jupiter/Pluto conjunction.

So secret affairs would certainly be a theme for him.

Note that his T Square fits tightly onto M’s mothers Sun (23 Scorpio) and forms a Grand Cross with her 5th house Moon (20 Aquarius).

His Moon is opposite her Sun and square her 5th house Moon.

Remember that M’s baby father’s 5th house Moon is conjunct M’s 7th house Saturn and in her T square.

The other thing with tight synastry like this is that the transits will always hit both players, confirming the themes.

So in 1985 when they met, Saturn was conjunct M’s mothers Sun and opposite father’s Moon. A lot of the problems could have been predicted from that transit in itself.

And the specific timing of these problems could have been predicted too.

His affair in 1990 occurred when transit Pluto was square her Moon and opposite his Moon.

They separated in 2000 when Uranus was conjunct her Moon and square his Moon.

M didn’t provide birth details for the ex stepfather, but I would imagine there are similar themes occurring there too.

Our genetic inheritance comes from both parents, some themes we inherit from our mother and her family line, some from our father.

The same applies to our astrological inheritance.

Both M and her mother had tight T squares involving Mars, Saturn and another personal planet (M the Sun, Mum Venus).

This is obviously a theme running through the maternal line.

M’s maternal Grandma has the family signature Mars T square, opposite Saturn with an apex Sun (exactly the same one as M has).

We don’t have a birthtime for Grandma, but it would be particularly interesting that T square involved the 4th or 5th houses.

M’s grandfather also had a challenged Mars, with the close square to Pluto.

It’s interesting that he has the Sun in Sagittarius in trine to Jupiter and square Saturn in Virgo.

“He went to Canada, worked hard, set up his own construction business, was very successful in his career”.

He had the Moon opposite Uranus, in a T square with an apex Mercury, so it’s likely that family matters would not run so smoothly.

His Saturn Return was particularly difficult. It was in 1949 and square his Sun when his first wife died while giving birth to their 5th child.

He married M’s Grandma in 1951 with transit Uranus square his Mars and had the first of four more children with her.

The big change in his life came in 1954 when, with transit Pluto conjunct his Moon, he moved to Canada.

His synastry with M’s Grandma is powerful but also difficult.

Her Sun is exactly (5 minutes of arc) conjunct Grandad’s Saturn.

His Sun is conjunct her Saturn.

Her Moon is opposite his Venus.

He has the Moon opposite Uranus, she has Venus opposite it.

They married in January 1951 when transit Saturn was conjunct her Venus.

Grandad died just months before M’s Mum was born in 1969 with transit Uranus conjunct his Mars and Neptune square his Moon.

Grandma had Saturn conjunct her Moon then.

This would also help to explain Grandma’s difficult relationship with M’s Mum.

“Grandma suffered with serious depression throughout a lot of moms childhood after grandads death, mom said it was very hard for her growing up with her”

Mum had Saturn as the bucket handle of her chart and also in a T square with Venus and an apex 5th house Mars.

Grandma’s Moon was therefore in Mum’s T square.

I suppose one question that comes up is will M’s baby daughter inherit these Mars T square themes?

With a tight T square involving the Moon, Venus and an apex Mars in Gemini in the 9th house, it seems fairly likely that she will.

She has the Sun in the 5th conjunct Saturn and square to Uranus.

She also has a Mercury/Pluto conjunction in the 4th house. In the 16 months that she has been alive so far, she has lost her father and moved to another country.

How about M’s siblings?

Her elder brother also has a tight T square involving Mars, in Leo in the 8th as the apex of Moon/Pluto opposition.

It’s very interesting that the 5th house of children is involved again, through the troubled Moon and also Jupiter there in square to his Sun.

In 2016, he moved to Canada with his pregnant girlfriend and 2 children (the baby was born 23/10/16).

In April 2017, she left him, returned to Ireland with the children (transit Uranus square conjunct 5th house Jupiter, square his Sun 2016 – 17)

His synastry with M is very challenging. Her Venus/Uranus conjunction in Aquarius forms a Grand Cross with his T Square.

His Cancer Sun forms a Grand Cross with her T Square and is closely opposite her Capricorn Sun.

These difficult themes would have been triggered very strongly by Pluto’s transit conjunct her Sun and opposite his. This would have occurred in 2021.

“August 21 – we do not have a relationship now, he abandoned me after the July accident despite me being disabled at the time and having no support in the city. He was a harsh brother growing up, not a great relationship.”

M’s younger brother also has a T Square involving the same three planets, Moon, Mars and Pluto, with the Moon as the apex planet.

M and her two brothers have Moon/Pluto contacts. M has the conjunction (1 degree orb), her elder brother has the opposition (2 deg) and younger brother has the square.

But the truly staggering thing is that M, her daughter, her mother, her grandmother and her two brothers all have T Squares involving Mars and at least one other personal planet.

M, her Mum and Grandma have Saturn also involved, her brothers have Pluto.

It goes without saying that the chances against this happening by chance are astronomical.

For M’s family, Mars is a hard act to follow.
