Annual rituals always have their basis in astrology.
Christmas has got nothing to do with Jesus, everyone knows he was born in September – Is This The Birthchart Of Jesus Christ? . It’s simply a Capricorn ritual celebrating the return of light after the winter solstice.
Equally Easter is new life in Aries, they even time it so that the Moon is in resurrected Scorpio – The True Date Of The First Easter
Halloween is Scorpio, Harvest is Virgo, Thanksgiving is Sagittarius etc etc.
Even ones that you might never have thought of. For example, every year round about this time, we all watch reruns of our favourite seasonal film. It’s 20 years old now, but it has become an early December religious ritual for many, as important as putting up the decorations. And we do that because the Sun passes over its Venus at this time of year.
There are many different methods of assessing the relative strengths of each planet in a chart. Some people would always automatically give it to the Sun.
Others might say the Moon in this chart because it’s dignified in Cancer, or Saturn or Uranus because of rulership. There’s even a case to be made for Jupiter, given the number of planets in signs ruled by him.
But my experience is that whenever there is a T Square, particularly if it’s a tight one, it’s the apex planet that takes precedence.
Love Actually was first released in the USA with a T square apex Venus.
It opens (and closes) with a Venus in Sagittarius scene of loved ones greeting each other at an airport.
The film is a classic rom-com and the relationship focus is shown throughout the T square with the square to Mars in Pisces and it’s opposition to Jupiter in the noon chart 7th house.
There’s a fair bit of sex as you’d expect from Mars/Jupiter and the mutable T square points to some cheating, but it’s all gently done and so very Pisces/Virgo.
But as Venus is the apex, the main theme is that love conquers all and the conjunction with Pluto shows its tremendous transformative power.
As well as the T square, there is a powerfully emotional trine between the Sun in Scorpio and the Moon in Cancer, which no doubt points to the mainly favourable outcomes for the coupling that takes place.
It may not appeal to everyone, it is very conventional and has been criticised for only portraying heterosexual couples, but its fundamental message is one that most people can get behind, particularly at Xmas.
Pieces of art will often carry something of their creator and the writer and director of Love Actually, Richard Curtis also has the Sun in Scorpio in favourable aspect to the Moon (sextile in Capricorn) as well as Mars in Pisces opposite Jupiter in Virgo.
The film is packed with megastars, many of whom already had big reputations but it’s interesting how many of them had Jupiter conjunct their Sun when Love Actually was released.
Jupiter is at 15 Virgo. Hugh Grant has the Sun at 16 Virgo, Colin Firth’s Sun is at 17 Virgo, Martin Freeman’s Sun is 15 Virgo and Lucia Moniz (who played Firth’s love interest Aurelia) naturally has the Sun at 16 Virgo.
Bill Nighy’s noon chart Moon is at 13 Virgo, Andrew Lincoln’s Sun at 21 Virgo.
There are many players with major placements in the middle of Mutable signs including Liam Neeson’s Sun (17 Gemini) and Ascendant (17 Sagittarius), Rowan Atkinson’s Moon (17 Gemini) and Kris Marshall’s (Colin Frissell whose journey to the USA endows us with the title for this article) Moon (15 Pisces), so Love Actually gave all of them a Jupiter boost.
But as well as that, the filming occurred with Pluto aspecting all these placements so it would have been a turning point in their careers.
I have to admit that until 5 years ago I never watched it, but then again I was a typical triple Capricorn cynic when it came to matters of the heart.
Until transit Pluto sextiled my Venus and the incredible transformative power of love happened to me.
Now I actually love this film and would happily watch it every year.
With an apex Venus in Sagittarius – Love is indeed all around.
