I have met many people over the years that profess to be religious.
Most of them keep well away from me because I have a disarming habit of asking them “ So you profess to follow God’s plan ? Why don’t you want to know what it is then ? “
As well as a powerful ruling Saturn, I have a very strong Neptune.
A 12th house Sun and Moon together with the Mars in Pisces is complimented by an extremely tight T Square focused on an apex Neptune in my 9th house.
You could say that my whole path in life is explore Neptunian themes in a Capricornian fashion.
I have a strong antennae for this stuff and I can spot pseudo religious / new age bullshit artists very easily. But when I meet the real thing, I am powerfully drawn to them.
I have only met a small handful of truly spiritual people and they have come from quite different traditions but all have something in common.
It’s hard to express in words exactly what that is but it comes over as a total at homeness in this world and never preaching about another one.
They are usually people of few words but you can witness this quality by just watching them move. Every single step is in tune with it.
Their conviction is total and unshakeable because it’s not based on belief, it is an experience. Their feet are firmly on the ground and the head is pointing upwards towards the sky.
Whenever I came across someone like this, I tried to get as close as possible in order to hopefully absorb something of this quality into myself.
There was one in particular who I consider to be my teacher.

Mr M was a Piscean with his Sun exactly conjunct my own Mars.
His Moon was in Capricorn, conjunct my Sun and Moon.
He was actually born at noon so his Sun ruler Neptune is rising in close trine to his Sun.
I met him in my early 30s at the end of 1985 when transit Neptune was conjunct my Sun.
He was 75 years old and in the last years of his life.
In the four years that followed with transit Neptune conjunct my Sun and Moon I immersed myself in something that could be best called a Zen Buddhist style retreat.
I spent 4 hours every morning in his presence.
In all that time he barely spoke to me, but he placed his hands on my head, back, arms and legs and poured his energy into me.
He had been working like that for over 50 years and had many students.
The name he gave to this energy was Direction.
This was for two reasons – the energy flowed in a specific spatial direction and he was consciously directing it to do so.
Just after I met him, Neptune’s conjunction with his own 6th house Moon brought him low with pneumonia and septicemia and a stroke had taken him close to death so he had retired to his home on the edge of the South Downs.
He had lost the use of one arm due to the stroke but was convinced that he could get it back through the work, which he did.
He was missing sharing his work because he said that it was good for him to do it, but didn’t want the business of travelling up to London to his former school.
I jumped at the chance and asked him if he would consider taking me on as a pupil in his home.
I actually lived in Brighton 10 kilometres away on the other side of the downs and had no transport so going to his house meant a morning walk over the hills and back again in the afternoon.
But that is nothing for a triple Capricorn on a mission.
At the time, I really wasn’t expecting him to live more than a few weeks because he was so frail but I was happy to give up everything to be in his presence even if was only for that short time.
As it turned out, this experience continued for three years.
I have met many people who claimed to be doing the same thing as Mr M, but not one who actually was, certainly not with the same clarity, simplicity and power.
Their mistake was in assuming that it was something that could be done, rather than an experience and understanding of an energy which was allowed to flow freely.
And I felt this misunderstanding was partly due to their not knowing his astrology. His Sun in Pisces in close trine to a rising Neptune gave him a natural sensitivity and fluidity that very few people have.
With a 6th house Capricorn Moon opposite his Neptune he had serious health issues as a child.
Fortunately this opposition focused by t square onto an apex Jupiter in the 4th house so he had wealthy and enlightened parents whose search for an answer to their son’s problems led them to Mr A, who had pioneered a method of physical, mental and spiritual well being.
He began training with Mr A at the age of 10 and stayed with him assimilating everything he could for for the 25 years until his teacher died.
Mr A and Mr M insisted that we all have this upwards and outwards quality at birth.
We know we have largely lost it. That was inevitable because we weren’t conscious of having it in the first place.
In the face of the powerful stimulus of the modern world we lose it very quickly.
Spiritual people are engaged in the quest to get it back and they ask for a method or a path to follow to achieve that end.
But in true Zen fashion this approach will always fail because it suggests there is something to be attained and a self that should try and attain it.
So we try to think upwards without really taking the time to fully understand why we lost it.
Mr M stressed that we lost it in our constant forward movement, whenever we receive a mental stimulus we jump forward with it and this takes us away from our own balance, mentally, physically and spiritually.
His constant admonition to me was to “ stay back “ in the face of a stimulus to move forward.
The more I was able to simply do that, the more of this quality I could receive from him.
But this way requires the one thing that none of us believe we have – time.
Hence the four hours a day of practice for three years.
If we can have that level of patience and just simply observe, everything comes to us.
That childlike quality of freedom and grace in our everyday movements is a possibility even in old age, the only reason we don’t still have it is the accumulated tension patterns of a lifetime.
The more I worked with this principle of staying back, observing and allowing, the more I could see it working.
By the end of it I was completely changed as a being and had also learnt to pass on something of this quality to others through my own hands.
I realised that Mr M had been given extra time on this Earth because by all normal measures he should have died 5 years earlier than he did.
During my training with him first Neptune, then Uranus and Saturn transited conjunct my Sun and his Moon.
I was picked out by the Universe to receive something from him and there had to be a reason for that beyond my own incredibly good fortune.
When I began this experience I had no expectation but after he died I felt compelled to pass on what I could of his work and this slowly became a full time hands on healing practice.
I had no idea that there would be a need or a demand for this but over the next 25 years I earnt a living doing precisely that.
I made the practice my own, and incorporated elements into it that I had picked up from other areas that inspired me, particularly from astrology.
I saw the classical five pointed description of a star as relating to the head and four limbs of a human, that if we could allow this upward and outward flow in our own bodies we would be shining like a heavenly one.
It felt as if that was one of the purposes of these stars, to remind us of our own natural quality.
I also allowed my understanding from working with this method to affect the way I pursued astrology.
The greatest truth, particularly for a triple Capricorn is that everything comes to those who wait.
Capricorns are perfectionists. They drive themselves hard in this pursuit. But what if their chosen mountain path is essentially a 12th house spiritual one ?
All those goat like qualities are of no use in that realm.
Even in my astrology, I was trying to gain an end of becoming a decent astrologer by reading all the books in the hope of coming up with a “ good interpretation “
Over the years I realised that I had not really made the subject my own, I was simply trying to copy others who had been there before me.
Eventually I realised I had to stop trying to be an astrologer and simply stay back and observe its workings.
Because what is astrology if it isn’t an instruction to step out of your own partial ego driven view of things in order to observe God’s actual plan.
So I decided to stop working with clients and simply research the subject, allowing astrology to be revealed to me, observing how it worked in the lives of thousands of people.
When you do this, particularly taking the amount of time that I did, your understanding of the subject gradually deepens to become an unshakable core.
And it reaches a point where you are so full of astrology that it just naturally flows out of you, it can’t do anything else.
Astrology is a subject unlike any other. It is not an academic secret, an understanding acquired by reading dusty old books.
Astrology is all around us, it is everywhere. You simply have to stop and observe it. The more time you spend doing this with a truly quiet and open mind, the more will be revealed to you.
My experience these days is that I am just a channel for astrology. I stay back, receive my instructions and they find their own expression and the people who need and want to hear them.
Mr M left this world at the age of 81 with Neptune opposite his Ascendant and sextile his Sun.
Uranus was also conjunct his 6th house Moon.
His funeral was attended by hundreds of his students. His wife asked me to write and read the eulogy. I used it on behalf of us all to thank him for pointing us in the right direction.
Mr M was a true star.
