One of the funniest British comedians of the last 30 years was Victoria Wood. Her own brand of northern humour and gentle satire comes over beautifully in her song Let’s Do It, about the horny middle aged Freda and her reluctant husband Barry.
Victoria had Venus in Aries opposite Saturn so it could have been written from personal experience.
But the song has a very Mars in Cancer opposite Venus in Capricorn flavour.
I can think of many couples that would fit this bill nicely sometimes with the roles reversed.
” Not bleakly
Not meekly
Stick me up the bottom with your Woman’s Weekly
Let’s do it!
Let’s do it tonight! “
There’s no prizes for guessing who this might be about

William’s Yod apex Venus in Taurus in the 5th house with both lights in the 7th house square to Mars in Libra would endow him with very particular tastes in the boudoir.
Mars conjunct Saturn in Libra square to a 7th house Sun and Moon would indicate that they would not be reciprocated by his wife.
” I’m imploring :
I’m boring
Let me read this catalogue on vinyl flooring
I can’t do it
I can’t do it tonight “

With Sun in Capricorn, Moon in Cancer and Venus in Aquarius, Kate would be much keener on grouting than pouting.
So hubby has to go next door to borrow some pegs.

It may come as some relief to readers to find that this is not an article about the Prince of Pegging but about another Cancerian with an even more frantic 5th house than Willy. She was also called Frida.

Regular readers will know that the key to astrology charts is not the signs but the planetary aspects. And the tighter the aspect, the more powerful and dramatic the role it plays in the person’s life.
” As an openly queer woman in the early 20th century, having open relationships with women was seen as pretty revolutionary. Her search for love wasn’t limited to the confines of societal norms of that time. As an openly bisexual woman, she had love interests of both men and women. “
This doesn’t sound very Cancerian.
But the Sun is exactly ( 1 minute of arc ) opposite Mars in the 5th house.
This is an unusual aspect too occurring 4 times as infrequently as the conjunction between the two. So Frida the Mexican artist was at least as voracious as Freda the Victorian housewife.
The Sun’s tight conjunction with Neptune and opposition with Mars and Uranus meant she would not be restricted by convention and would have dalliances with both sexes.
With the Sun being conjunct Jupiter as well, she would have lots of them.
Of course the 5th also rules creativity so Frida Kahlo’s artistic output would contain all the same themes.
But it’s her relationships and soulmate experiences that we are considering here.
Another important factor is her Venus in Gemini exactly conjunct Pluto ( half a degree ).
Given that Sun / Mars / Uranus / Neptune pattern is so pivotal we would expect it to play a very big role in Frida’s soulmate experience.
It certainly did.
When her progressed Venus reached the conjunction with Uranus in 1920 she had her first sexual experience with her gym teacher.
Her soulmate arrived right on cue when her progressed Venus was conjunct her Sun and opposite her Mars in 1923. She met Diego de Rivera when he painted a mural at her school, and she developed an immediate crush on him.
Her progressed Ascendant was sextile her Sun and trine her Mars in 1927 when they met again and began their affair.
” Though her mother objected to his age, 20 years older than she, and his immense weight, some 300 lbs, calling him a “fat and ungodly communist,” they married in a civil ceremony on 21 August 1929.
It was a lifetime marriage despite periods of melancholy illness, separations, divorce and remarriage. He was always a philanderer and their life together was stormy. They were proud of each other, hated each other and were tender and protective of each other. He never objected to her lesbian relationships but was fiercely jealous of the men in her life, so she concealed those many affairs from him. “

Like Frida, Diego has a very powerful Cancer / Capricorn opposition involving his Ascendant, Saturn and Mars in the 7th house.
This opposition focuses by T square onto an apex Uranus.
Needless to say this falls on Frida’s Sun / Neptune / Jupiter / Mars / Uranus opposition.
This suggests that like Barry in the song he found his wife’s unconventional approach to her love making pretty challenging and the Saturn factor would suggest it brought him much pain. But it was also an experience that he was born to receive.
Diego too would have many affairs indicated by Mercury in Gemini in the 5th house opposite Pluto.
He first met Frida when his progressed 7th house Mars was sextile his Sun.
He married her when his progressed Venus was trine his Uranus.
Another older man that Frida had an affair with was Soviet revolutionary leader and exile Leon Trotsky.
They were lovers for only a few months in 1937 but three years later Frida was suspected as an accomplice in Trotsky’s murder, he’d been gruesomely killed with an ice pick.

The synastry between the two was not strong, although Frida’s Moon and Ascendant hitting Leon’s Mars / Pluto conjunction could have been a factor in her arrest.
The period between 1936 and 40 saw Frida’s Progressed Sun make quincunx aspects to her Uranus and Mars and a semisextile with itself and Neptune.
But the Sun’s quincunx with Mars could equally apply to Frida and Diego’s divorce in 1939 and remarriage the following year.
Also to one of Frida’s alleged affairs with singer Josephine Baker.

Frida Kahlo’s synastry here is much stronger and easily enough to take the word ” alleged ” out of the equation.
Her Sun / Neptune is conjunct Josephine’s Venus / Neptune with both opposing Uranus, both from 11th to 5th houses.
Frida’s Venus / Pluto conjunction is right on top of Josephine’s Mars / Pluto one.
There was also artist Georgia O’Keefe.

Georgia’s 7th house Pluto and Neptune are interesting themes to have.
Her Neptune closely opposed to a 1st house Mercury was obviously stimulated by Frida, whose Taurus Moon fell exactly on it.
Frida and Georgia met in 1931.
It’s fair to say that Frida was Georgia’s true soulmate as her progressed Venus was conjunct her Sun and her progressed Sun was trine her Venus at the time.
The experience for Frida might have been a more intellectual one as her own progressed Sun was conjunct her Mercury.
This affair could have had a similar feel to Frida’s one with Costa Rican singer Chavela Vargas.

Again we have strong oppositions between 11th and 5th house planets with the Moon, Venus , Mars < Saturn, Uranus and Neptune involved.
This opposition also fell across Frida’s Ascendant / Descendant axis.
This affair was unusual for Frida in that it was with someone who was significantly younger ( 12 years ) than herself.
It occurred in the early 1940s and was a massive coming of age for Chavela as she was experiencing her progressed Sun opposing her Moon and conjunct her Mars at the time.
For Frida, her progressed Venus was conjunct her Mercury.
There were many other affairs with photographer Nickolas Murray, sculptor Isamu Noguchi, painter Jacqueline Lamba.
All of them had fascinating Venus / Uranus combinations but no real powerful synastry with Frida and the progressions at the time were not the most signifcant ones of her life.
So it’s looking like Diego then.
But Frida’s true soulmate might not have been Diego de Rivera after all.
In 1922, about the time she first met Diego, she fell in love with Alejandro Gomez Arias and conducted a three year affair with him in secret because of her young age with her progressed Venus conjunct her Sun.
Unfortunately we have no birthdate for Alejandro to corroborate their synastry.
But Frida might not even have been Diego’s.

Frida’s younger sister Cristina has extraordinary synastry with both her and Diego.
She has a Mars / Mercury / Neptune / Venus conjunction opposite Uranus right on top of Frida’s own Sun / Neptune / Jupiter / Mars / Uranus pattern and Diego’s 7th house Mars / Saturn / Ascendant one.
Cristina had an abusive husband who left her after the birth of her second child and she went to live with Frida and Diego.
Cristina and Diego had an affair, probably around the time 1933 – 34 when her progressed Sun was conjunct her Mars and Mercury.
At the same time his progressed Sun was sextile his Venus.
Frida Kahlo was the very opposite of Victorian values, but her Cancer Sun was exactly conjunct Victoria Wood’s T Square apex Uranus, and Diego’s Saturn was conjunct it so Let’s Do It could easily have been written about them.
Perhaps with some additional lines…
Won’t kiss ya
Won’t fist ya
Got a thing going with ya little sista
Can’t do it
Can’t do it tonight.
