There are some subjects that are difficult to write about, so much so that many people feel it is not appropriate to comment on them from an astrological perspective.
I completely disagree. Astrology is not all pink and fluffy. It covers every possible expression of humanity and even inhumanity.
For me, anything that appears in the media is fair game for astrological analysis.
If people don’t wish to read about it, that’s fine but that doesn’t mean the rest of us should not try to gain some understanding about it.
Incest is a strange name for child rape, it seems to be suggesting that it’s somehow consensual when it is always about the abuse of power with a family dynamic.
There are victims and perpetrators.
Incest is such a horrific and repugnant crime that it’s not surprising it is strongly denied by the alleged perpetrators.
Consequently it is extremely difficult for any victims to get justice or any form of closure.
Research undertaken in 1986 indicated that ” some form of father-daughter incestuous activity, ranging from minimal to brutal and aggressive, was found in approximately 1 in 20 families that included daughters and their natural fathers, and 1 in 7 families in which daughters resided with a stepfather. “
So incest seems to be a much more common problem than is generally acknowledged.
” Incest often leads to traumatic bonding, a form of relatedness in which one person mistreats the other with abuse, threats, intimidation, beatings, humiliations, and harassment but also provides attention, some form of affection, and connectedness.”
” Over 10 years, in Victoria, Australia there were 23,000 reported rapes but only 1003 sentenced offenders.
Given the particular pressures of incest situations, the expected level of successful prosecutions per actual case is less than 1 %.
Maybe astrology could help play a role in exposing these crimes by looking at the charts of victims and alleged perpetrators.
Every single situation is different of course, but an incestuous relationship would not necessarily be violent.
So we wouldn’t expect to see the same Mars / Pluto afflictions that are often present in other sexual assault situations.
What is generally there is a high level of coercive secrecy which allows incest to continue over many years.
For a child, there is the fear of what might happen to them if they alert anyone else to the trauma they are suffering.
So perhaps Neptune would play a larger role than Pluto.
In fact my research shows that Neptune plays a powerful role in sex crime. –
You would also expect the 4th house of family to be involved for obvious reasons.
One of my longest standing clients claims to be a victim of incest. This is strongly denied by the perpetrator.
But looking at her chart, you would be tempted to believe her version of events.
She has a close T square – Mars in Aquarius in the 7th house opposite Uranus and focusing on an apex Neptune in Scorpio in the 4th.
Exactly the kind of thing that would point to such an experience.
I have already written a couple of articles about particular incest perpetrators and victims.
In Joseph Fritzl – An Attempt To Rectify a Monstrous Wrong ” One of the most shocking and truly horrific stories to emerge over the last few years was that of Elisabeth Fritzl who had been held captive for 24 years in a concealed basement area of her family house by her father, Josef who had physically assaulted, sexually abused, and raped her numerous times during her imprisonment. The abuse by her father resulted in the birth of seven children and one miscarriage, four of the children joined their mother in captivity, and three were raised by Josef and Elizabeth’s mother, Rosemarie.”
There is no timed chart for Elizabeth but two very powerful conjunctions, a Sun / Mars in Aries and a Moon / Neptune in Scorpio give us a clear indication of the major themes of her life.
In Mars And Venus – Ken And Barbie Attacking The Minors, Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka became known as the Ken and Barbie killers, raping and murdering many, including Karla’s own sister, 15 year old Tammy.
Tammy Homolka had a Mars / Neptune conjunction.
It’s interesting to bear this in mind when looking at the story of Mackenzie Phillips.
” To everyone watching Mackenzie Phillips throughout the ‘70s and ’80s it seemed like she had it all. She appeared in American Graffiti and starred in the hit sitcom One Day At A Time, not to mention the fact that she was singing in The New Mamas and The Papas with her father John Phillips. Regardless of how well her career was going, she was harboring dark secrets in her personal life. Not only was she heavily addicted to drugs, but she claims that she was in a decade long incestuous relationship with her father.
Phillips claims that she and her father got high the night before her wedding in 1979 ( she was 19 ) and that she blacked out. When she came to she woke up with her father on top of her, mid-coitus “.
This ” relationship ” continued for a decade and only ended when Mackenzie became pregnant and did not know who the father was, her own father or her 2nd husband.
So what would astrology have to make of these ” dark secrets ” ?
Most readers would already have made a fair guess at the sign and house position of the Mackenzie Phillip’s Sun.
As always, astrology is just gobsmackingly on point.
A Sun / Mars / Neptune conjunction in Scorpio in the 4th house is exactly what we would expect.
On top of that, Mackenzie has a tight T Square involving the Moon opposite Venus and an apex Saturn indicating a harsh and barren emotional life.
It also should be pointed out that those three planets are the rulers of her 1st, 7th and 4th houses.
So an incestuous ” relationship ” with her father was exactly the kind of thing we would expect with a chart like this.
Her Sun is square to Uranus, this would no doubt reflect the shock of the first rape by her father.
When an important personal placement has an aspect with a slow mover, this pattern will be strongly triggered when the outer planet makes another aspect with it.
Transit Uranus was conjunct Mackenzie Phillips Sun throughout 1979.
What about Papa John ?
In the astrodatabank research section under incest pepetrators there are only 5 examples but all of them have either Sun or Moon conjunctions or oppositions with Saturn.
We don’t have a birthtime for John Phillips, but I often find the Universe compensates for this by giving us a suitable noon chart.
Phillips has the Sun in exact opposition to Saturn and at noon it’s in the 4th house of interfering with your family.
You might think a Virgo stellium would be too pure to engage in such a thing but the Mars / Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio indicates the type of sexual entitlement that you’d expect from someone who spent 10 years raping his own daughter and calling it making love.
Particularly when you see that Mars / Jupiter ( 16.57 and 18.56 Scorpio ) falls exactly on Mackenzie’s Sun ( 17.57 Scorpio ).
Of course it goes without saying that since Uranus was conjunct Mackenzie’s Sun when the abuse began, it was also conjunct John’s Mars.
Transit Saturn was also playing a major part as it worked its way through his Virgo stellium during the first couple of years.
All of this would certainly be enough to convict John Phillips in an astrological court of serial raping his own daughter.
Mackenzie wasn’t the only Phillips sister that had a relationship with an abuser.
Her sister Bijou was married to Danny Masterson who was recently sentenced to 30 years in prison for rape.
The Sun in Aries opposite an exact Moon / Pluto conjunction was tough enough.
But the Grand Cross with Venus, Mars, Uranus and her Ascendant, with Mars right on the 7th cusp showed that her marital experience would be no more comfortable than Mackenzie’s.
The incestuous abuse did not become known until 2009 with Mackenzie’s auto biography some years after her father’s death when Pluto formed a Grand Cross with her Venus / Moon / Saturn T Square.
It certainly gave a new slant to the to the Mamas and the Papas.
