On the face of it, you might think what’s the harm ? If these idiots want to waste their one day off, it hurts no-one but themselves and at least it means the pubs are less crowded.
But some of them might easily be inclined to help the Lord’s message on its way and ensure a faster passage for the evil doers.
Matthew Shepard was ” an American 21-year-old student at the University of Wyoming who became the victim of the lowest level of brutal bigotry. He was captured by a gang of young thugs, tortured, beaten and left tied to a fence in freezing cold temperature on 6 October 1998, outside Laramie, Wyoming. Six days later he died of his wounds in Poudre Valley hospital, Fort Collins, Colorado on 12 October 1988 at 12:53 AM. He was murdered because he was gay, a prominent and charismatic member of the gay and lesbian student group on campus.”
Whenever I write about a chart like Matthew’s I feel a pressure to add a rider that says, just because this person has Uranus on his 7th house and is gay, that doesn’t mean that everyone who has it will be.
And the fact that he has the Sun conjunct Mars and Neptune on the 8th house cusp does not mean everyone who has it will be cruelly and violently murdered because of their sexual orientation.
But it would be interesting to find out if there is anyone else with all those placements along with a tough T Square involving the Moon in Aries opposite Pluto focused on an apex Venus in Capricorn and to see if they experienced something similar.
And if they did share a similar experience did it happen when transit Pluto was conjunct that Sun / Mars ?
And did they breathe their last when transit Mars was square to that Pluto from the 8th house ?
And when there was a Grand Cross occurring between the Moon / Mercury / Saturn and Neptune.
And if so, was their funeral interrupted by members of the local baptist church with signs bearing homophobic slogans, such as “Matt in Hell” and “God Hates Fags”.
And if they were, was this protest led by someone who also had a Sun / Mars conjunction, but in a much more repressed sign than Sagittarius ?
And did that person have their Pluto forming a Grand Cross with the object of their hatred’s T Square being exactly opposite his Venus ?
And their Mercury / South Node conjunction falling exactly on their Descendant.
With that Scorpio stellium including the Sun, Venus and Mars with the Moon conjunct Uranus in Aries it doesn’t take much to imagine an experience of their own sex life that is closely tied with hell and damnation, together with the need to keep this disguised from the rest of the world, so what better way to do that than to project it onto someone else who is much more innocent and direct about their own orientation.
The quest to understand the world from a truly spiritual perspective is the noblest one that humans can aspire to.
But the problem here is that humans are complex and very truly understand themselves or their fellows. Even the ones that attempt to through psychology do so through perspectives that are extremely reductive and based largely around a simple division into normal or abnormal.
Therefore there is an enormous pressure on people to ensure that they perceive themselves and others perceive them as being members of the normal camp.
And the simplest way to do that is by identifying other people with different behaviours as abnormal.
Astrology is the only discipline that does not do this ( even if many of its followers try to make it do so ).
If we are all representatives of the patterns of the moment of our birth, then each one must be as acceptable to and required by the Universe as any other.
So there is no normal.
The only truly religious path requires us to accept our own uniqueness, all of the patterns in our charts, not just the ones that we like and wish to identify with. This also means that we must do exactly the same for everyone else.
If the likes of Fred Phelps had permitted himself a safe way of exploring his own sexuality, its very possible that Matthew Shepard would be still alive to follow his.
But then again, astrology seems to have a way of taking into account the unconscious ignorance of humans, because when you look at the transits, 12th October 1998 does really seem to be his due date.
Maybe the Lord really did want Shepard to return to his fold.
