A question frequently asked is “How can there be a God when innocent children suffer?”

If you google that one the answers put forward are generally from the supporters and defenders of such a God.

“These things happen to test our faith.”

“Because of free will and demonic forces”

“Evil exists so humans can learn from it”

“We cannot know God’s logic and applying ours to evil falls short.”

Theodicy meaning ‘vindication of God’, is an argument in the philosophy of religion that attempts to resolve the problem of evil and was coined by the 17th century German philosopher Gottfried Leibnitz to justify God’s existence in light of the apparent imperfections of the world.

With Sagittarius rising in opposition to Mercury in Gemini, it’s easy to see the philosophical discourse.

A tight conjunction between Venus, Mars and Saturn in Taurus in the 5th house, could well be considering the death of innocents.

The close sextile between this group and his ruling exalted Jupiter shows his attempts to try and reconcile this with an omniscient God.

This sextile forms a Yod with Leibnitz’s Ascendant.

Three and a half centuries after his birth in 1996, Leibnitz’s progressed Venus was again in that Yod, conjunct his Jupiter sextile that Mars and Saturn and quincunx his Ascendant.

There was an incident that powerfully demonstrated the dilemma which Theodicy tries to wrestle with.

An innocent 6 year old junior beauty queen was murdered on Xmas Day.

What’s more she had a birthchart that absolutely predicted it.

Bizarrely, but also entirely appropriately, she had a seriously afflicted Mars in Taurus right on Leibnitz own Mars/Saturn/Venus conjunction.

It is hard to imagine a more difficult planetary pattern than a Fixed Grand Cross involving both the Sun and Moon with an exact Mars/Pluto opposition.

With the Sun right at the bottom of the chart conjunct the IC, her family life would be the main focus. The Moon at the top of the chart shows the exposure to junior beauty contests.

Mars in the 12th opposite Pluto points to an extreme act of violence that happened in secret.

JonBenet Ramsey was killed sometime before 5.30 am on Xmas Day.

My favourite would be about 5.00 am.

This time would give Pluto on the Ascendant and an 8th house Cancer Moon.

The Sun opposite is this Moon and square to Saturn and the South Node in the 4th.

But despite the fact that JonBenet’s murder is so clearly depicted in her chart, it would be impossible to predict that one as the moment for it.

There are no significant transit triggers to any of her placements.

This is something that I have found in the charts of people who have experienced something very intense and traumatic in their early years. The slow moving planets like Saturn, Uranus and Pluto, that you might expect to be around when someone is killed, have barely had a chance to get going, and certainly could not be renewing any natal patterns.

But this actually reinforces my view that there is an essential difference between transits and progressions and we need to look at a birthchart in a new way to understand the latter.

Transits are purely related to this life, they are the Universe interacting with the nativity as we progress through it, they show us what we need to adjust to at each stage.

But if a young girl is murdered on her 7th Xmas, this is not something that could have been deserved or required by her actions in this life.

We have to conclude that this has a karmic quality. It must be related in some way to a previous life and a theme that has been carried over into this one.

So instead of transits identifying it, we would have to look at progressions because as many of my recent articles have shown, it is this method that connects our current life with our past ones.

Something that I have noticed is that if a birthchart identifies an event that is going to happen in the early years, it is likely to be indicated by Secondary Progressions.

This also might seem an odd statement to make because if anything progressions are an even slower method than transits.

But what we do get is a progressed tightening of the patterns in that natal chart.

If we look at JonBenet’s progressions to that fateful Xmas night we get this.

The Sun/Mars square in her natal chart has now become exact (with an orb of 4 minutes).

Her progressed Sun has also now formed a quincunx (the aspect of death) with Saturn.

Because of her family’s relocation to Boulder, Colorado from her birthplace of Atlanta, Georgia, her progressed Ascendant has actually gone backwards to reach a conjunction with her natal Mars.

JonBenet’s natal Moon is conjunct her Nodes, by progression it has moved to square them.

So the traumatic karma that is clearly indicted by the patterns in her birthchart, is powerfully triggered by this tightening of her progressions.

JonBenet Ramsey’s murder is one of the most famous unsolved cases.

“Her death was ruled a homicide, and the case generated worldwide public and media interest.

There are two primary theories about JonBenét’s death. In the family-member theory, JonBenét was killed by one or more family members.  In the intruder theory, an intruder committed the crime.

Boulder police initially concentrated almost exclusively upon JonBenét’s parents. According to an FBI profiler, “statistically, it is a 12-to-1 probability that it’s a family member or a care giver” who is involved in the homicide of a child. The police saw no evidence of a forced entry, but they did see evidence of staging of the scene, such as a long handwritten ransom note that was reportedly found in the home, had been written by her mother Patsy, and that the note and the appearance of JonBenét’s body had been staged by Patsy and her husband, John Bennett Ramsey, to cover up the killing.

 In 2013, unsealed court documents revealed that a 1999 grand jury recommended filing charges against the Ramseys for permitting the child to be in a threatening situation. John and Patsy were also accused of hindering the prosecution of an unidentified person who had “committed… the crime of murder in the first degree and child abuse resulting in death”. However, the DA determined that there was insufficient evidence to pursue a successful indictment.

The police and the prosecutors followed leads for intruders partly due to the unidentified boot mark left in the basement room where JonBenét’s body was found.

On the night JonBenét was killed, there had been two windows that were left slightly open to allow for electrical cords for the outside Christmas lights to pass through, a broken basement window, and one unlocked door.

However there was an intact cobweb in the basement window. The steel grate that covered the window also had undisturbed cobwebs, and the foliage around the grate had been undisturbed. There were also cobwebs in the tracks of various windows, and dust and debris were on some sills.”

Given that JonBenet’s natal chart and progressions indicated her murder as being a traumatic karmic event, would it be possible to use the same methods to identify who was responsible?

Her father John also has an afflicted 4th house, with his Sun and Mercury there opposing Mars and Saturn respectively.

The Sun and Mars focus by T square onto an apex Virgo Ascendant.

There is an Aries Moon in the 8th house but it is mostly well aspected, and trine his Sun.

What is more, his Sun is trine JonBenet’s Sun and his Moon forms a Grand Trine with it.

His Ascendant is conjunct her ruling Mercury.

The only thing that might suggest he caused his daughter’s death would be his Pluto closely opposite her Moon and conjunct her 4th house Sun.

John’s transits on the day of his daughter’s murder aren’t that outstanding either.

But his progressions are.

John’s progressed Sun at 8.15 Aquarius is exactly conjunct his South Node (8.23 Aquarius) in the 5th house of children and opposite his Pluto (8.35 Leo).

His natal conjunction between a retrograde Mars and Uranus has been renewed by progression (with an orb of less than 1/2 degree).

His progressed Ascendant is exactly opposite his Moon.

But you would expect this level of stress for someone who has lost their 6 year old daughter.

What about the mother?

Patsy Ramsey has an exact Moon/Venus conjunction in the 7th house which is closely conjunct her husband’s 4th house Sun and exactly opposite his Mars.

This is powerful synastry, but it has to be noted that the Moon and Venus are also conjunct Saturn.

All three are part of a Grand Trine involving Mars in Aries in the 12th and Uranus in the 4th house.

It’s also important to note that Moon/Venus/Mars pattern forms an exact Grand Trine with JonBenet’s Sun at 13 Leo.

Patsy does have a Sun/Mars square aspect which hits JonBenet’s 8th house Uranus and Neptune.

On the day of the murder transit Neptune was conjunct Patsy’s Mercury but there was nothing else of real note.

Her progressions, however, have a very different story to tell.

Venus, Mars, Uranus and Neptune form a Grand Cross, with Patsy’s progressed Mars exactly (12 minutes orb) square to her 4th house Uranus.

Her progressed Sun is exactly square to her Ascendant and the Moon is conjunct it.

Her progressed Ascendant opposes her Moon and Venus.

Patsy’s progressed Moon is also exactly conjunct JonBenet’s Mars and opposite her Pluto.

Vert stressful, but like with John’s progressions, you would expect a once in a lifetime level challenge for someone who had just lost their daughter.

JonBenet had a brother, Burke, who was three years older than her. he was interviewed and a TV show suggested a possible cause was that he had hit his sister not intending to kill her and that this was covered up by his parents.

We don’t have a birthtime for Burke.

Burke Ramsay has the Sun square to Pluto. In a noon chart this is part of a T square with the Ascendant.

It also falls on his sister’s Moon with his Pluto forming an exact square to it.

Burke has Mars in Aries in square to the Moon which falls on JonBenet’s 8th house Neptune.

He also has a Venus/Saturn/Uranus conjunction in the noon chart 8th.

What about his progressions on the day?

Burke’s progressed Sun is exactly conjunct his Mercury.

His Mars is trine his Venus.

These are not the kind of things that would implicate him.

Recently I have discovered a powerful method for uncovering soul group connections which consists of regressing someone’s chart to the moment of the other person’s birth.

Obviously there would be strong and challenging soul group connections between these four anyway but could taking JonBenet’s own chart back to when they were born point the finger of fate at any one of them?

Burke was only 3 years older than her so there would not be much movement by regression.

JonBenet’s regressed Sun however was now exactly opposite her Moon (9.10 Aquarius).

Perhaps even more significantly, it was triggering Burke’s own Sun (7.13 Aquarius) square with Pluto (9.54 Scorpio).

JonBenet’s regressed Mars at Burke’s birth was exactly square to her Sun (13.31 Leo).

Given that her progressed Sun and Mars were in exact square at the time of her death, this does appear to be a strong link.

Her regressed Moon was exactly conjunct Burke’s Uranus.

What about regressing JonBenet’s chart to her mother’s birthdate?

This is a difficult chart.

A Tsquare involving Jupiter, Saturn and an apex Mars in Aries, particularly in quincunx to a Scorpio Moon in the 8th house does seem to be suggesting an act of violence.

It does not particularly trigger anything in JonBenet’s natal chart though.

What about regressing her back to her father’s birthdate?

We have another difficult chart with a T square focusing on an apex Mars in Aries. This one involves Jupiter and Neptune.

But perhaps the real pointer is that Finger Of Fate involving Mars, Mercury and an apex Pluto.

Even more so when we remember JonBenet’s natal chart.

The astrological cause of her death has to be that exact Mars/Pluto opposition forming the Grand Cross with both of her lights.

Regressing her chart back to her father’s birth would be the first moment that Mars and Pluto could be reunited by aspect.

So JonBenet’s regressed Mars was exactly quincunx her Pluto.

Her regressed Mercury was too.

It’s also worth noting how this pattern sits relative to John’s natal chart.

The Mars and Mercury in JonBenet’s regressed chart are exactly trine and opposite John’s Sun.

Her regressed Sun is exactly opposite his Mercury.

Her regressed Saturn is exactly quincunx his Saturn.

What to do with all this?

Can we really use astrological regression to point the finger at anyone for JonBenet’s death?

Everyone in this family group has difficult Mars aspects in their natal charts and by progression/regression.

JonBenet has it in a Grand Cross exactly opposite Pluto.

John has Mars tightly opposite his 4th house Sun.

Patsy has it in Aries in the 12th square to her Sun.

Burke has it in Aries square to his Moon.

For the date of the murder, John’s progressed Mars is conjunct Uranus in the 8th.

Patsy’s progressed Mars is also conjunct Uranus in her 4th and part of a Grand Cross.

Burke’s progressed Mars is trine his Venus and Saturn.

For Burke’s birth, JonBenet’s regressed Mars is exactly square the Sun.

For Patsy’s birth, JonBenet’s regressed Mars is quincunx an 8th house Scorpio Moon.

For John’s birth, JonBenet’s regressed Mars forms that Finger Of Fate with an apex Pluto.

The Pluto connections between JonBenet and her father and brother are also pretty heavy handed.

For the mystery intruder theory to be correct, they would have to come up with a suspect whose connections with JonBenet Ramsey’s chart were incredibly powerful to persuade an astrological court.

The likelihood of an intruder breaking in without disturbing any spider’s webs, killing JonBenet and dragging her body to the basement without waking any of her family seems a bit of a stretch anyway.

Looking at all of the above, I would think a plausible scenario would be that she was accidentally killed, perhaps by a blow from anyone of them, with Patsy and John constructing an elaborate story to persuade the police that someone else was involved.

The trines in the parents charts would perhaps explain why they got through all of this without even being tried for neglect or child abuse.

Perhaps it seems harsh to use astrology to adjudicate on these matters. Better that than a religious court which would be sending one little girl to heaven for eternity and at least one of her family to the fires of hell.

A binary religious view of the Universe is stupid, naive and entirely contradicted by all the evidence of life.

This is not Theodicy, it is The Idiocy.

Astrology shows us that JonBenet Ramsey’s fate was to be killed at a young age. This fact is evident from her own chart.

I would guarantee that if given her chart and 10 other random ones, 90% of serious astrologers would pick this one as the one belonging to a young murder victim.

If astrology can show it this clearly, there must be a reason for it.

All of these connections between the four of them come up so strongly with progressions/regressions which proves that these patterns are related to past lives.

Why would that be?

There are only three possible answers, the first being that it is all the inevitable consequence of past unresolved karma that is unconsciously playing out in the lives of everyone.

The second is that something to do with our essence or soul has chosen this life in order to experience these things and to learn whatever is required from them.

The third is some kind of mix of the first and second.

The very fact that astrology can inform us of these themes and their links to our own past, means that the truth cannot be entirely consigned to the first option either.

Astrology is not secret knowledge either, it is emblazoned across the sky and clearly visible to everyone. With a little study, we can come to understand our own life patterns, as well as those of other people.

A system that essentially runs on a quantum karmic principle actually wants the beings on Earth to understand that principle.

Now with the true application of the method of progressions we can gain some understanding as to where and when these patterns come from.
