We all know that astrology works but how it does is a much more difficult question to answer.
If pressed we might say “anything born at a moment in time will carry with it the quality of that moment”
Which is a rather new age way of saying “ it works because I say it does”.
It’s one thing getting your head round the cosmic mechanism involved for a baby to somehow absorb the energy of the moment of its birth, but what about horary?
How do we explain how a question that occurs in a moment will also embody those symbolic qualities? And embody them with an exactness that is absolutely astonishing.
Horary is the true quantum physics. A thought or question materialises in someone’s mind at exactly the moment it is meant to and it can be answered by looking at the pattern made by the planets hundreds of millions of miles away at that precise moment – see Doing The Lord’s Work
How do you explain that? Well how do physicists explain how an electron that is happily buzzing around an atom in their own body can disappear and instantly turn up in a galaxy far, far away?
You just have to say it does it because it can.
But when we get down to the quantum physics of it all, there is no essential difference between a horary question and the person that asks it.
Because that person does not exist as a separate entity, there is no difference between them and the space surrounding them.
The only thing that gives us existence is our thoughts that we do. We have a self because our minds have convinced that we are one. We are simply a thought or a conception, repeating constantly to make us believe it is a reality.
So ultimately the only distinction between ourselves and a horary question that has just occurred to us is simply one of density and frequency.
But as a practitioner of the horary art, and a collection of electrons that has taken upon themselves the responsibility of explaining to other similar collections the future of the particular thought that has just occurred to them, this quality of density is important.
How do we assess whether the question asked actually resonates with the chart of the moment when it is voiced?
This is the first and most important question in horary astrology, because only if we are certain about this can we judge the actual chart with any confidence at all.
It is particularly important if we are the person asking the question.
How can we be sure that the thing that has just occurred to us has any real symbolic connection with that moment or is just another piece of irrelevant mind wandering?
My own experience is that its easier to have this clarity when a client comes to you with a question because the very act of voicing it to an astrologer gives the question more significance but even so we still have to ask will the chart really answer it?
So I have a three stage assessment to see if the chart works.
You could call these the Considerations before the Considerations before Judgement.
The first is that either the Ascendant, it’s ruler or the Moon must be in a position that reflects an important personal placement in the client’s natal chart.
The second is that the house position of the chart ruler, the Moon and the house it rules also must describe the nature of the question.
The third is that the separating, past aspects of the ruler and the Moon should reflect what has recently happened in relation to the question.
If these three considerations don’t apply you have to doubt whether this chart is really the right one for the client’s question.
But also the tighter these connections are, the more important the question is to the client and the more clearly the chart will answer the question.
This article has been mulling around in my head for a few days, and as so often happens, I received a request for a horary from a client where the chart was the perfect example that I was looking for.
My client S, came down with Covid in 2022, and has suffered long term health complications, which have been made significantly worse by the whiplash injury received in a car accident when someone drove into the back of his car.
On checking with me about his transits he decided to pursue a lawsuit to provide financial compensation because he was unable to work due to the accident.
He contacted me ” I connected the dots that after my accident where I got whiplash that I may have developed a neck injury called CCI (cranio cervical instability). Only few neurosurgeons in the world can diagnose this. So I have talked to my lawyer and am thinking of going to Spain and getting imaging and a possible diagnosis from this surgeon. I feel like I am on the right path but would just like to know if this is the right direction to be going in. And if I am correct about this injury if it will impact my lawsuit.”
This is his natal chart.
By any way of looking at it, S has a difficult chart.
The Cardinal Grand Cross with the Moon in Capricorn in the 3rd opposite Venus in the 9th and square to Mars in the 12th and Jupiter in the 6th would suggest challenges around travel and health.
This was the report I sent him about the horary question.
“The first place to start with any horary question is with the person’s natal chart, particularly to look at their transits.
At the moment you have transit Saturn square to your Sun and this fits with having to deal with obstructions and obstacles to your progress.
There is a sense of retreating for the time being, having to do some work on something that will pay off in the long term.
Jupiter will be conjunct your Sun in July and again in the early months of 2025.
This is an extremely favourable transit, it happens once every 12 years and it being conjunct an 8th house Sun gives you great opportunity to get financial compensation for your injuries.
The question as I see it is would a trip to Spain for a diagnosis of CCI be favourable in your lawsuit.
When looking at any horary chart the first thing to do is check if the moment of the question resonates with the natal chart of the person asking the question.
In a horary it’s the Ascendant and its ruling planet that signifies the questioner.
The Ascendant in this chart is 11 degrees Gemini, within half a degree of your natal Sun.
The chances of this occurring by chance is 700 to 1 against.
On top of this the ruling Mercury is in the 9th house. This house rules both travel and lawsuits, so it accurately describes your question.
The Moon is also very important in any horary chart and it is placed in the sign of travel (Sagittarius) in the house of health (6th).
So you can see that we are on the right track.
The lawsuit itself is difficult to pick because the 9th house ruler could signify that or it could be the proposed travel to Spain to get the diagnosis.
This is one instance when twin rulerships really does come into play.
The 9th house cusp is Aquarius, co-ruled by Saturn and Uranus.
Saturn is in the 9th, it also has a natural connection with authority so I am thinking it signifies the lawsuit.
Uranus is conjunct Jupiter, the planet of travel so I feel this covers the journey to Spain.
Mercury is in detriment in Pisces, and it is separating from a conjunction with Saturn so this suggests that you are currently in a weak position relative to your lawsuit and that it is getting away from you.”
So you can see that this chart, even before we start to judge it, powerfully reflects S’s own natal chart, his question and the background to it.
Once you can see all this in a horary chart, actually judging it is fairly straightforward.
Because horary is always about what will happen next. So we are looking for any applying aspects between any of the planetary significators. So what happens next for S?
” Will this proposed trip be successful?
Mercury will make a favourable sextile with Uranus, showing that this trip to Spain for a diagnosis could be helpful to your cause.
The distance between Mercury and Uranus is just over 3 degrees so this could be suggesting this journey could occur in June/July, which does correspond with your Jupiter transit.
If we are looking for a financial benefit this would come from the Moon, as ruler of the 2nd house.
The Moon as we saw earlier is in the sign of travel and the house of health.
The Moon applies to a square aspect with Saturn, also in just over 3 degrees, so it’s looking like this trip will help with your lawsuit.
The Moon then makes a square with the Sun, which as ruler of the 3rd house indicates some kind of petition that is put forward to aid your cause.
The Moon then reaches the square with Mercury, so this has the feeling that financial compensation (Moon) will be coming to you (Mercury).
Even though Mercury (you) is separating from Saturn (the lawsuit) which suggests that it would not be successful, the Moon applies to a square aspect to both of them and therefore can help bring things to a successful conclusion.
The distance between the Moon and Mercury is about 10 degrees which takes us into the New Year, corresponding to when the transit Jupiter is stationing on your Sun.
The fact that the aspect between the Moon and Mercury is a square, is probably referring to the idea that this compensation will not come easily to you and you have to work to get it.
It may also not be as much as you are hoping for but it should still be a decent settlement.
It seems that this trip to Spain is an important part of this process and it will be to your advantage.
So I would recommend that you take it.”
Even an astrologer beginner can see how strongly this horary links to S’s question.
How does that happen? How does an email arrive from S at a time that so exactly describes the question uppermost in his mind?
Who can say? All we know is that it does.
And not only that, S’s horary with the Pisces stellium in the 9th house and the Moon in Sagittarius is the most perfect description of Horary as Quantum Physics that I have ever come across.
Horary Astrology works because the whole Universe says it does.
