The Inevitable Meeting Of Light And Dark

Opposites attract each other “is a popular saying suggesting that people are often drawn to partners who have completely different personalities, interests, or backgrounds. The idea is that these differences allow individuals to complement each other by filling in each other’s gaps.”

We see this often in astrology. A couple with major placements opposite each other are irresistibly drawn together in order to hopefully be able to blend those energies in a way that makes the whole greater than the sum of the parts.

Sometimes it doesn’t work, the differences between them creating too many challenges but even signs that are opposite each other are still in complimentary elements, Earth and Water or Fire and Air.

This is perhaps why some baby astrologers refer to opposites as sister signs.

But what about square aspect synastry?

If anything the 90 degree aspect would throw up more profound differences of character than the 180 one.

With the square we are looking at Air or Fire with Water or Earth, combinations that are that are true opposites.

What if you had two people each with a 5 planet stellium, both in square aspect to that of the other?

Surely we would be looking at a light versus dark thing?

While watching the Kylie documentary I became intrigued by a particular collaboration.

With all her personal planets in Gemini, Kylie Minogue is probably the best example of that sign. She is the epitome of lightness, movement, communication, change and adaptability.

In 1995 Kylie came together with an artist who represented the exact opposite.

Nick Cave’s first band, The Birthday Party acquired a reputation as “the most violent live band in the world, notorious for their aggressive shows and Cave became recognised for his confrontational performances and unhinged stage presence, with him shrieking, bellowing and throwing himself about the stage.

He went on to front The Bad Seeds. Cave’s music is characterised by emotional intensity, and obsessions with death, religion and violence.

Nick Cave also has a 5 planet stellium, this one in Virgo.

Not necessarily the sign you’d associate with darkness and violence but the Moon/Pluto and exact Sun/Mars conjunctions would focus strongly on those themes.

Kylie’s Sun and Venus are closely square to Nick’s Moon and Pluto.

Her Moon and Mars are closely square to his Mercury.

Her Mercury is exactly square to his Sun and Mars.

The light of Kylie and dark of Nick came together to make a murder ballad, Where The Wild Roses Grow.

“The collaboration shocked the music industry at the time, seamlessly blending Cave’s dark, brooding storytelling with Minogue’s bright pop sensibilities. The song tells the tragic narrative of a serial killer (Cave) and his victim, Eliza Day (Minogue). It became a major global hit, charting highly in Australia, the UK, and across Europe.

What if we seamlessly blended their charts?

A composite is a chart made up of the midpoints between each placement in a couple’s nativities. It is said to describe something of the relationship between the two people.

Here we have another stellium which would be likely given the two starting charts.

But the fascinating thing is the T square based on the opposition between Venus in Leo and Saturn in Aquarius with an apex Neptune in Scorpio.

This chart describes the Wild Roses single to a tee.

“The unexpected pairing created an enduring mutual respect between the two artists and was Nick Cave’s most successful single.

Minogue has described Cave as an incredible mentor figure, and Cave has publicly championed her as a national treasure and pop visionary. Cave even played a role in guiding Minogue’s career trajectory, famously convincing her to return to her signature upbeat pop sound during a brief pivot to indie music.”

Kylie and Nick were both born in Victoria, Australia but over a decade apart and their life and musical experience up to that point had been very different.

Was this a collaboration that was always meant to happen?

A year or so ago, I made a discovery which suggested that if you progressed/regressed one person’s chart to the birthdate of another one who would play an important role in their life, the connection would be very strongly indicated.

I have a number of examples of this. Here is one The Instantaneous Acceleration Of X And Y

So what if we regressed Kylie’s chart back to Nick’s birthdate?

We have her regressed Sun forming an exact T Square with Neptune and an apex Jupiter.

That Neptune in Scorpio in the 4th house seems to portray the unfortunate Eliza Day.

What if we progressed Nick’s chart to Kylie’s birthdate?

His progressed Sun is exactly conjunct his natal Jupiter (9.12 Libra).

It’s as if this was the one time in his life when he was to be exposed to the light.

As they say, opposites attract, but squares can transform.

If both parties are prepared to accept and respect the differences between them and make a compromise, tremendous growth can be the result.

As long as one doesn’t try to drown the other in a pond.
