The dance between life and death has always drawn the attention of astrologers.

In times gone by, they would have looked at the interplay of Jupiter and Saturn. It was known that a conjunction of the two would mean the death of a king.

These two heavyweights come together every 20 years and it certainly worked that way in the USA.

From 1840 to 1960, every President elected in a year with a Jupiter/Saturn conjunction failed to live out his term of office.

This included 4 who were assassinated, Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley and John F Kennedy as well as William Henry Harrison, Warren Harding and Franklin D Roosevelt who died of ill health during their term.

Ronald Reagan in 1980 was the victim of an attempted assassination but escaped the same fate by employing an astrologer to schedule all his meetings.

But he needn’t have worried because the 1980 Jupiter/Saturn had already claimed its victim.

Just a month after Reagan won the 1980 election, John Lennon was assassinated.

The Jupiter/Saturn conjunction was very close (an orb of 1 degree).

John was taken from us all way too young. He was only 40 years old, but that also meant that he was born under a Jupiter/Saturn conjunction as well.

At half a degree, this one is even tighter.

There is another aspect that could suggest John Lennon’s assassination in his natal chart, the close opposition between his Moon and the 8th house ruler Pluto and its T square to an apex Mercury in Scorpio.

The transits to Lennon’s chart when he died are nothing much. You might expect Pluto to be making another appearance in that T square, Saturn as well but these would not happen for a few years.

His progressions might be more indicative as his Sun was opposite his natal Uranus at the time.

What about his killer?

In Mark Chapman – The Man Who Killed the 60s I state that “Chapman was a schizophrenic, who killed John Lennon just hours after getting his autograph. A Beatles fan since he was ten, he signed his name “John Lennon” at motels on his way to the murder. He had suffered bouts of depression and thoughts of suicide. He decided to go to Hawaii and kill himself but accepted his failed attempt as God’s will and attributed the orders to kill Lennon to God.

In a strange way that sometimes happens between charts of people whose lives are powerfully karmically linked, both Chapman and Lennon have the Sun in exactly the same part of the chart in opposition to their Ascendant.

The opposition is from Taurus to Scorpio and this is the most intense of all possible opposite sign pairs. 

Saturn is also rising in Scorpio in opposition to the Sun and the tension between these points focuses onto an explosive apex Pluto at the very top of the chart. It describes a level of tension that cannot possibly be contained and its not that surprising that it resulted in killing someone.

The question of who would be the target is answered by a second T square in Chapman’s chart.

Chapman’s second T square was based on his Venus in Aries in the 5th house. His Venus was closely opposite John Lennon’s Sun and exactly conjunct his Ascendant.

Because it was Venus, Chapman idolised Lennon who as a performer would definitely belong to the 5th house.

Venus however is opposite Neptune, an aspect that suggests someone who is a fanatic rather than a mere fan and operating under delusions.

This opposition says it all, Chapman was obsessed with Lennon, the result of this obsession is seen by the tensions from the opposition being projected by T square onto an exact Jupiter / Uranus conjunction in the 8th house. This means the death (8th house) of an immense (Jupiter) cultural icon for a revolutionary generation (Uranus).

Could John Lennon’s assassination have been predicted?

It was actually, in 1969 a psychic in Greece said that he would be killed on an island. No date was given but that prediction led to him and Yoko leaving the Greek island he was staying on.

Manhattan is technically an island, so the guy got that right.

Given what we know of John’s Jupiter/Saturn conjunction and Moon/Pluto opposition, it is perhaps fair to say with hindsight that astrology could have predicted that he would be killed.

Transit Pluto had just past an opposition with Lennon’s Ascendant and the renewal of the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction in 1980 could be saying when.

But could astrology have predicted who would have done the deed?

Yes actually, Mark Chapman had been fingered for the job ever since he was born.

How do we know that?

Because the Karmic Relationship Chart tells us so.

This method, discovered by me, is achieved by progressing or regressing one person’s chart to the birth moment of another one who will have a connection with them.

This chart can tell us which themes of the subject’s nativity would be triggered or conditioned by their relationship with that person.

If we progress Lennon’s forward nearly 15 years to the moment that Chapman was born we get this one.

Remember John had the tight Moon/Pluto opposition.

If ever there would be a moment that would trigger this it would be when the two came together by progressed conjunction.

Here the Moon and Pluto are in the 8th house of death.

Not only that but the progressed Sun is involved as well, exactly square to that Moon.

The other indicator as we know is the Lennon’s Jupiter/Saturn conjunction.

In this Karmic chart, the conjunction is at the apex of an exact Yod pattern with quincunxes to Mars and the Ascendant all contained within about half a degree.

The Yod, with its 6th/8th house connection is particularly linked with ill health or death.

This is the chart that fingers John Lennon’s nemesis, the man who was hired by the Universe to perform the deed and kill the 1960s.

Could John have seen it coming?

A decade earlier he released a single called Instant Karma

Instant Karma was released when Jupiter and Saturn were in tight opposition and forming a Grand Cross to his T square.

Saturn was at 3.05 Taurus exactly square to his Moon.

So maybe on some level he did.

You better get yourself together
