It is an unwritten law that all articles about Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho have to include the word ‘ special ‘. This is simply because his very first press conference at Stamford Bridge over 11 years ago staked his claim to this status due to the fact that he did not come out of a bottle.
Whether we love him or loathe him we all have to admit that his managerial achievements have backed up this claim, but the thing that’s truly extraordinary is how he has always held the English media in the palm of his hand all this time.
In a world where the cycle of build em up to knock em down rarely takes longer than a few weeks, Mourinho’s control of his own image is astonishing. Rupert Murdoch would kill for a tiny piece of it but as a Pisces, his ownership of most of the media is financial, not astrological.
We all know that modern media is ruled by Aquarius and image control is a Capricorn / Saturn thing. So Jose’s Sun and Moon in Aquarius with the latter conjunct Saturn together with a Capricorn Ascendant says it all. In fact Mercury in Capricorn conjunct the Ascendant means ” what I say goes “.
Not only that but a T Square apex Venus means the cameras are rarely off him. An apex Venus is an attention magnet, Princess Diana being a fine example as the most photographed woman in the world.
An apex Venus draws the cameras but it needs the attention too. Most commentators thought that Jose’s grumpy visage when he went to that awards ceremony betrayed a natural father’s concern about his daughter’s prominent cleavage shots. Capricorn Research believes that it was more to do with him not liking the lenses pointing away from his own silver grey five o’clock shadow.
But where Diana’s Venus was in Taurus, so her image was that of the keep silent, demure English Rose clothes horse variety, Mourinho’s is in the motormouth, tell it like it is Sagittarius.
With all that Aquarius, Mercury / Ascendant Capricorn and apex Venus in Sagittarius, Mourinho always gets his agenda across. Even when he refuses to comment on an incident because he knows it will get him in trouble, noone in the conference room or watching on TV is in any doubt as to his take on the proceedings.
With Mercury conjunct the Ascendant in Capricorn he is the master of ” mind games “, every media utterance is calculated, every quote designed to put next week’s opponents off their game or to disguise his own team’s rare failings. Occasionally these tricks come back to bite him as in the Dr Eva affair, but Mourinho doesn’t even break stride, he’s already searching for the next target.
Because its Venus at the apex, the camera loves him for it. The fans do too, even if they profess to hate him. At least he provides copy for click bait, not the usual anodyne, creosote the fence, post match manager speak.
Most other managers appear to like him as well. This maybe because he’s generally quite gallant after Chelsea crush their side. Roberto Martinez appeared quite shocked at Mourinho’s foul mouthed outburst after Everton beat Chelsea the other week, as he’d been nice as pie when his team put 6 past them the previous season.
This, of course, is normal. Mourinho’s press conference’s are usually funny and astute, its only on the rare occasion that his team take a beating do other manager’s get to see his nasty side. With just one exception.
Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger has never managed to beat a Mourinho side in a proper competitive game but has constantly been on the receiving end of Jose’s barbed tongue lashings.
Ever since his early days at Stamford Bridge, he’s been at it. Following Wenger’s concern over Chelsea’s defensive tactics in 2005, Mourinho’s response was –
“Wenger has a real problem with us and I think he is what you call in England a voyeur. He is someone who likes to watch other people. There are some guys who, when they are at home, have a big telescope to see what happens in other families. Wenger must be one of them – it is a sickness. He speaks, speaks, speaks about Chelsea.”
This quote was accompanied by a sharp intake of breath amongst many punters at the time who were aware of some extremely ugly chants that had been sung about the Arsenal manager for some years previously.
The assumption at the time was that Mourinho, as a relative newcomer to the Premier League was unaware of this and his choice of the word voyeur was entirely innocent. This writer also has Mercury and the Ascendant in Capricorn and is not quite so willing to share that assumption.
Of course, its never all one way. Whilst his team have seldom been able to compete when up against Chelsea, Wenger has done his best to hold up his own end of quote wars. His response was “He’s out of order, disconnected with reality and disrespectful. When you give success to stupid people, it makes them more stupid sometimes and not more intelligent.”
There is obviously something about Wenger that get’s up Mourinho’s nose. Perhaps its the ” Professeur ” image, the appearing to be above it all faint smile, that Arsene regularly produces for the cameras.
Mourinho seems to be on a mission to remind us that whilst Wenger regularly gets flak from his own fans for getting no further than 4th place, he rarely receives it from the media. Jose feels its his duty to point out his own status by constantly reminding everyone that his north London rival is a ” specialist in failure “.
Just this last week saw Mourinho reverting to his specialist subject when he said –
“In this country, only one manager is not under pressure. Every other manager is. I am under pressure, Steve ( McClaren ) is under pressure, (Manuel) Pellegrini is under pressure, Brendan (Rodgers) too. We cannot be below par. We have to meet the objectives. I have sympathy with all of them, because it’s a difficult job. There’s one outside that list, but good for him. ” and “ You know. The one who can speak about the referees before the game, after the game, can push people in the technical area, can moan, can cry in the morning in the afternoon, nothing happens. He cannot achieve, keep his job, still be the king. I say just one.”
Why is this ? Is there not room in the capital for both managers, particularly as Wenger seems to pose little threat to Chelsea’s 6 points per season ? Could all this trouble be something to do with Venus as well ?
Arsene Wenger also has Venus in Sagittarius, about 5 degrees away from Mourinho’s. It also receives difficult aspects. It’s not at the apex of a T Square, but it does have serious prominence due to its close conjunction with the Ascendant.
Wenger and Mourinho have had ” handbags in the technical area “. The technical area is a suitably visible stage for a planet at the focus of a T Square or one rising. Handbags is a football term for the kind of confrontation that is neatly symbolised by a slightly afflicted Venus. The assumption behind this is that a proper man’s version would be strictly the province of Mars and the coming together of Roy Keane’s boot with some Man City player’s private parts.
What Mourinho seems to object to mostly is that the Arsenal manager gets away with a level of under achievement precisely because of his standing with the media. So it really is one man’s Venus in Sagittarius protesting about that of another.
But its not just that. While there might be just enough room for 2 such overtly Venusian characters, the fact that they both have Mars in Leo makes it clear that there isn’t. One of them has to go.
Jose’s Mars is conjunct Arsene’s Pluto and his Sun is square to the Arsenal manager’s Scorpio Moon. Mourinho therefore feels an acute personal responsibility to expose Wenger’s dark side.
As a rule Wenger, like his team, suffers the most from these confrontations, but this could well be due to his Venus being square to Saturn. After all Mourinho’s favourite targets don’t always get stung by his arrows.
Jose’s Spanish nemesis, Pep Guardiola also has Venus in Sagittarius. Guardiola’s Venus however has nice easy aspects particularly the sextile to his Libran Moon. Also Pep’s Venus is suitably tucked away in the 8th house conjunct Neptune so he doesn’t share Mourinho’s need to be centre stage so much.
The question on many people’s minds is will Wenger ever beat Mourinho in a game that actually matters ? The astrological view is quite possibly not because the next time Chelsea and Arsenal come together will be 23rd January 2016. Saturn will be at 13.24 Sagittarius, exactly conjunct Arsene Wenger’s Venus.
Capricorn Research has for some years felt that the most likely time for Wenger to retire, be sacked or pushed upstairs would be 2016 when Saturn conjuncts both his Ascendant and Sun ruler. No doubt Mourinho will take great pleasure in applying his own little shove in this direction.
